Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

ge to koid himself within close re tional bonds hereafter in matters con: cerniog affairs of state, calm obeervers recognize that the surrender of the Emperor leaves Germany far from popular government.The Emperor, it in pointed out, yielded to the most impressive demonstrationsof the people's will ever seen in Germany.but such an occasion can hardly prise once in a generationi when the minds of the wholo people are fixed with such unanimity upon a single demand, as in this case.The Reichstag, when the subject of the Emperors intervention jn national affairs came up for debaté.was un- ahle to agree upon the simple course of sandiv an address to the Emperor, settin~ forth the views of tte mem- hers of the Reichstag, who were one in their opposition to His Majesty's course, No action could be taken, because the Conservatives erefused to co-operate, on the pretext that - the ‘Reichatag did not possess the right to address the crown.The Radicals and Socialists, however, intend to attempt to pass a resolution demanding an amendment to the constitution making tke nfinisters responsible to the Reichstag, but it is alre=dy certaid that this resolution will be rejected.The Conservatives will present a united front against all proposals of this kind.They have everything to pain and nothing to lose in the present system, in which they supply the * ministers of the crown by traditional right and fill all the valuable diplomatic, military and civil positions in the gift of the government.The Clerical party, while containing democratic elements, is too accustomed to the tradition of authority acting from above to permit it to accept a political transformation not in hare mony with that tradition.with Conservative ideals to admit! the expectation that iis representatives would agree to support an amendment shifting ministerial responsibility wholly to the Reichstagaia Jeaver only the Radicals and alists, possible assistance of the Poles, making together barely one-fourth the membership of the house, to support an out and out demand for parliamentary government.Tt is further pointed out that a lack of large unified parties unfita Germany for parliamentary government.Jt would be impossible, with the present multiplicity of parties in the Reichstag, to bring enough homogeneous clements together for the forming of a compact majority capshle of working together harmoniously for any length of time.Men best acauainted with the politic characteristics of German people say À will rennire à lon- period of prac.tiral schooling March 21, 1908, leaving an estate the groms value of $8,394.98, which amount was reduced after the payment of debt to about $4,500.The widow claimed that by her marriage contract, made in 1892, macrimonial righte were re served to her in came sha survived her husband, while » daughter of = the decensed by a former marriage claimed the whole of the estate, an the marriage contract with the second wife specificially reserved a charge of $8.000 upon General Vidal's estate in favor of asid daughter.His Lordship dieminred the claim of the widow that she wax entitled to rank as if the de- crnsed had died intestate, mm to admit thin would be to smy that husbands would lowe the freedom to diminish by will the amount to which their widows would be entitled to in cane of intestacy.With regard to the daughter, the judge holds that she is only entitled to share equally with three other children born before their father's death.A child horn rince is declared entitled to but Mr.R.L.Borden is not !satistied with this view, and has l denied, pointdlank, that, so far as the Opposition is concerned, it profited by the railway subsidies voted by Pare linment.He bas expressed bimsell as follows: — “Railway subsidies during the past eight years have been brought down "in the concluding hours of the session end under such conditions as prevented a full discussion.In the session of 1968 they were brought down seven and a hall months after the opening of parliament and only five days before prorogation.The Opposition strongly protested against the lateness of the date and the meagreness of the information afforded by the Government.| The Star correspondent, who is evidently a Liberal, may spesk with authority for his own party.His | assertion that the Opposition was col- !lusively silent, or that it profited, or expected to profit, in any wav from railway subsidies, is wn utter falsehood.If he ir nincere in his statement ‘let him disclose his identity and I will undertake to hawe him summoned as a witnees before the Public Ac i counts Committee as soon ns Parlinment opens, in order that he may give i on oath all the information in his pos- seswion.” The accusation brought by an “Ex- M.P.,” in the columns of the Star is one of graft—grait by the Liberal Government, and graft by the Conservative Opporition, and this has now been denied by its leader in behall of the latter.Tt remains for the Govemment to decide whether it will rest quietly under the imputation om itasl{.Novelties in Millinery, Novelties in Jackets, Novelties in Dress Goods, Novelties in Trimmings New Lace and Sequin Dresses, New Allovers and Insertions to Match, New Neckwear, Jabots, Ties and Scarfs New Feather Boas, Umbrellas and Gloves, New Kid Gloves in all 1angths.TAILORING Latest Novelties in Suitings, Latest Novelties in Overcoatings, Noveltiez in Vestings, Ties, Gloves, ete.CARPETS New Designs in Best Carpets New Designs in Oilcioth and Linoleuns, New Portieres and Lacs Curtains, New Furniture Coverings, and Table Covers.All Best Quality at Low Prices.5 PER CENT OFF FOR CASH, GLOVER, FRY & CO.3, Saag re TT THE CRISIS IN CHINA, The deaths of the Emperor and Dowager Empress of China, occurring so unexpectedly, and within such a short distance of each other.bring that country into the centre of the world's gase.Little attention would ‘have been attached to the demise of the former, but that of the latter ; they ste well got up, admirably managed, within the reach of all, and very popular, but, we submit that a large and handeome building like the Auditorium was not erected with a view to the exclusive display of: such] exhibitions, and that the citissne have a right to expect from the mansge- ment something higher and better.The present theatrical situation in this city is not one that does credit to our taste, or is likely to redound to our advantage.We have winter visitors as well ne summer ones, and the theatre forms, or should form, one of our principal attractions to these, at all events, no inconsiderable factor in their enjoyment.It is easy to uva- œusloned as they ase to the soenie at tractions of | othet cities, on finding thes their only resource here is an bour’s view of “moving pictures,” the modern sucoresors of the panoramas and pesp shows of an earlier ange.Tt% are very good in their way, and in their proper time and place, but the Auditorium was built for better things, and should give them to us, and to our visitors.We are quite capable ot apprecisting them.DEATH OF THE REV.F.J.BOYLE, At St, Malachie there passed aw: ou Monday, November 16th, ome’ o the oldest clergymen in the Anglican Communion in the Province of Quebec, the Rev.F.J.Boyle, who having becn nearly sixty years in Holy Orders, died peacefully in the old parsonage at Frampton East where he lived after his retirement from active work ten years ago, among the people to whom he bad previously miniater- od for twenty-nine years.Mr.Boyle, during the whole course of his ministry, held but two cures, namely, the |’ Magdakn Islands, and Frampton, His memory still lives in the Islands, where he was the first resident clergyman of any Communion ex the Roman Catholic, and where built churches and parsonage, ministered with great faithfulness to the spiritual needs of the people and, owing to his remarkable surgical skill, was the physician and surgeon to most of the’ inhabitants.In early life Mr.Boyle married Miss Arnold, daughter of the Rev.William Arnold.By this marriage he five daughters, of whom three survive their father, Mrs.Anderson, of Ottawa, Mrs.LeMoine, of the same place, and Mrs.Crawford, of Montreal.Alter his wife's death, Mr.Boyle was moved to Frampton, and in this place he married Miss M.A.Ross, who survives him.B: this marriage there were nine children, of whom five rons and three dauchters are living, Mr.Arthur Boyle, manager of ike Arthabaska Water and Power Company ;
