that Sergeant Lacasse and\u201d Constable Sullivan had died, aad that two other constables had been suspended.The committee decided to dismiss the two constables under suspension, and to proceed with the: appointment of three French and three English speaking constäbles, and a Sergeant to replace Sergeant Lacasse.For the latter position there were five appli- cantions: Constable Philippe Centure, 22 years\u2019 service in the foce; Consta- | ble Alf Boucher.twenty-one years; Constable J.A.\u201cJallee, twenty years; Constable St.Laurent, seventeen years, and Constable L.Lacasse, son | of the late Sergeant, four years.| Chief Trudel, in reply to the committee, remarked that the applicants were all good and steady men, but specially favored Constables St.Laurent and Lacasse as being specially well suited for the position, the former having on several occasions acted as sergeant.Constable St.Laurent secured the position, having served in the force seventeen years.Several of the applicants for the six vacancies on the force were ushered into thé committee room and under: went the usual examinations as to their knowledge of both languages.The successful candidates are: Joseph Dickson, on motion of Alderman Mulroney to replace Constable Clarke; Thomas Cullerton, on motion of Alderman Cannon, to replace the Jate Constable P.Sullivan; and Alfred Jeffrey, on motion of Alderman Deligts to replace Constable J, deal- ion.- a Alderman Mulroney remarked that he knew Alfred Jeffrey would be an acquisition to the force, but he should not be appointed to take the place of an Irish Catholic constable, and suggested that this appointed be deferred until next meeting, but his proposition was not accepted.Four French Canadian applicants were then brought before the committee to undergo a similar examination, and the following were appointed: Alf.Fortier, on motion of Aledrman Beaumont, to replace Constable St.Laurent, promoted;
