Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

doubt of kis critical condition. At the same time the military aspect of the situation became increasingly prominent again.General Funston reported renewed demands by Mexican Federal outposts for the su: render of the waterworks supplying Vera Cruz.No shots were fired and the Mexicars fell back, But General Funston voiced the prevailing spirit in military quarters in inquiring as to what steps the United States contemplated in view of the threatening situation.Secretary Garrison conferred with his military chiefs but said no farther orders had been given for the movement of troops, and none are contemplated during the period of negotiations.Mexico City Situation. The situation at Mexico City gave added importance to the summuning of fosquin D.Casasus from Carlsbadfe ‘wes believed that Shore Power Railway and Navigs- Noa Company, YOUR BIRTH MONTH AND ITS INFLUENCE BIG FACTOR IN DETERMINING CHARACTER, DISPOSITION AND SUCCESS.Does the month in which one is born really havs an influence on the character and disposition and success and happiness ‘n life? There are those who are inclined to scoff at the idea; but it is only necessary to read the writings of those who have made a special study ‘of the subject, and to compare their statements with one's own life and that of their friends and relatives to become convinced that there is much to he learned from those who claim to be experts in re gard to foretelling the future by basing their calculations on the date upon which one was born.Probably no man has made a closer study of the subject than “Chiero.” 2 palmist and clairoyane, who most truly i remarks in his book.“When Were | Born?” that “those people who have : some means at their command to learn "their own characters and the dispos- sitions nf others must certainly be | thrice armed in the battle of life, and consequently more successful than those who know nothing of such things.” “Chiero” says he has seen many wicked and broken lives where, had penple posessed a slight knowledge of their own dispositions.they might have been saved, and his knowledge he endeavors to give in his book.January's Influence.Persons horn in January, according te “Chiero.have strong mental force, but they are.as a rule, generally misunderstood hy others, They are thinkers, reasoners, and should aim for some form of public life, for they generally do best in such careers. They have strange ideas of love.duty and social positions, and for this reason they are nften considered odd.and do not fit in easily with their neighbors. But they have warm hearts toward suffering and as a rule give largely to charities, This is also a characteristic of persons horn in February. While excellent in husiness and finance.as a gen- seal rule, they are more successful for others, and make more money for others than for themselves. They are usually highstrung, oversensitive and, while not demonstrative in affections, feel very deeply.Thnse horn in March have rather peculiar temperaments. They are inclined to brood and hecome melan- chnly and worry about what their future position in life may be.“This state of mind is, “I think" said “Chiero.” “largely due tn their dislike and dread .of being dependent on others more than from any love of money.” Many artists.musicians and literary people are born in March, but they must receive encouragement to make the hest of themselves.Strong Will Power The main characteristic of those born in April are strong will power and great obstinacy of purpose.Ther are born fighters; they have also the greatest ability as organizers on à large scale, such as in the formation of hig schemes or as the heads of hig businesses. But they have their disadvantage in life, for as a rule they are unhappy in their marriages. They rarely meet members of the opposite sex who understand them.Sincerity is the keynote of persons horn in May.If they love they are generous to the last degree and will consider na sacrifice too great for the person they care for.If they are er emies they will fight with the mou determined obstinacy to the death But they always Aght in the open, for they hate trickness, dnuble-desling or deceit. At the same time neither men nor women ban in May should! ing usually a mistake.Of all it appears thace harn in June are the most difficult to understand.in temperament they are hot and cold almost at the same moment. They make clever actors, lawyers, lecturers and a certain class nf publie speakers —all those who play a changing role in life's drama: but if endowed with mary early, their first marriage be." fection they .ppear to too much.Curious are the characteristics of those born in November, for up to 20 years of age they ususlly are extremely pure-minded, virtuous, and religious, but once their nature is aroused, they are often found to swing in the opposite direction. They have great magnetic powers, and in danger and in sudden crises are cool and determined. Many of the best surgeons have been born in November.Tn December the great workers are born, who never seem to tire until they wear themselves out. They have enterprise in business.but never feel themselves confined to any one line. For this reason one often finds the men of this period change from clergymen to stock brokers, or {rom professors to followers of trade. As a tule, from their intense concentration and will power they are success- fui in whatever they do.and they should, always be allowed a free hand in choosing their vocation.weigh matter A — LONDON'S MAYFAIR WILL LOOK LIKE A CRAZY QUILT Cubists Are Delighted snd Claim Credit for the Rioting Color on Outside of House— .London, May 4—An unaccountable demand for startling and clashing colors for the exteriors of houses in the West End of London is being joyfully heralded by the cubists. They argue thar this extraordinary taste is the direct recult of cubist influence and predict that the most staid of the Mayfair streets will soon be colored like a crazy quilt.“This is terrible,” exclaimed Frank Brangwyn, a painter and etcher of the very first rank in England, and a noted decorative artist.“The County Council or some other authority should have the power to prevent these hideous contrasts of glaring colors which hit the eye all over the West End in newly painted house exteriors.” _ Managers «i house decorating firms confess that there is a remarkable demand for unasual colors this year.It would seem that the colors patronized in socks and gold jerseys are now coming into fashion for houses.M.P‘8 TO PLEAD FOR ‘FRISCO.London, May 4—Premier FEDERAL AUTHORITIES CO-OPERATE IN AN EFFORT TO SETTLE IT Denver, Col, May 4 — State and Federai authorities co-operated today in an effort to settle the Colorado strike of coal miners, but tonight the situation was still unchanged.except that there had been no violence reported.Regular troops occupy the Trinidad, Fremont county and \\Walsenburg districts and state troops are still in service at Ludlow and in the northern coal fields. At the direction of Major Holbrook additional state troops late today were sent from Ludlaw to Aguilar. The action of Secretary Garrison in granting the joint request of Major Holbrook and Governor Ammons for more federal troops.announced late today, has served to allay uneasiness in quarters where it was feared the quota of regular soldiers would not be sufficient to maintain order. While Major Holbrook ani Governor Ammons today were devoting efforts to secure additional troops, the question of disarmung strikers and mine employees remained in a see- ondary position.Weather conditions prevented action by the strikers who had planned to vote on the question. On behalf of the operators, J.F.Welborn president of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company, announced that the mine guards wo.'d be disarmed whenever such action was deemed expedient by Major Holhrank.Horace N.Hawkins, chief counsel and John Lawson, internatinnal executive board
