Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

Contend That Proposed Boundaries Are Unjust and indefensible .Mie, Feb.23—The final documents annexed to the Hungarian re- Ply to the Allied peace terms were presented to the Secretary of the Peace Conference on Baturday last.It is contended by the Hungarians ta their answer that the boundaries proposed by the treaty are strategi- eally and economically favorable to the adjoining countries but are un- Just to Hungary and not defensible on either ethnological or historical grounds. It is pointed out, that in addition to Transylvania, the boundaries proposed leave outside of Hungary a strip of territory from 35 to 40 miles wide, and entirely surrounding Hungary, in which the Hungarian population is in the overwhelming majority. It is also alleged that the treaty cuts oft a large population in the Carpathians which in the past has depended for its existence upon the work given the people during the summer on the Hungarian piains. These plains are to remain Hungarlan, and the mountaineers, it is argued, will thus be deprived of their means of existence. The proposéd frontier lines, it is pointed out, likewise break up important public worka erected at an expense of many millions of crowns, to fight the floods along the Theiss and the Danube, some of the dikes and pumping .ataQous .halpg allotted to one country while others which are connected with such work are operated in conjunction with them are left to another.country.À Another point made is that the railroad winding through the contested territory.are repeatedly cut by the peace treaty line so that it will be impoasible, it is declared, to operate them successfully. The point on which the Hungarians appear to be most sensitive is the detachment of territory in Western Hungary for annexation to Austria. They ask that plebiscites be held there also.Promise is made in the reply that even should the pleblscites proposed in Transylvania rejected the alternative of annexation to Rumania, complete political antonomy, with economic union with Hungary, would be given to Transylvania. The repiy declares that while 43 percent of the population of Transylvania Is Rumanian, the territory has belonged to Hungary for a thousand years and the Rumanians who moved in were exiles who found asylum there when they fled before thd Turks. It is added that the Rumanians In that territory had never demanded annexation to Rumania, but that they were divided, one party favoring autonomy and another remaining loyal to Hungary. The reply asks for the appointment of a commission to investigate atrocities alleged to have been committed In Transylvania by the Rumanian troops of occupation.9e 98 06 08 06 08 06 0606 08 08 06 06 060 HON.A.K.MacLEAN LATEST TO RESIGN.Ottawa, Feb, 23—(By the Canadian Despatch Claims To Give Exclusive Inside Story Toronto, Ont, Feb.83.—A Dublin cable says: ; I am able to give exclusively the story behind the first Sinn Feln “court martial” last Thursday, which resulted in the execution of a man who is still unidentified by the police and whose bullet-riddied body was found just outside Cork, The victim's name was Quinn. He served with the British army and was captured by the Germans early in the war.Later he joined the late Sir Roger Casement's “Irish Brigade”.After the armistice he was released. At Calais, he and his former fellow prisoners were recived by a British officer. All his comrades were detained by the British, but a special exception was made in Quinn’s case. The authorities not only released him, but granted him & special pension of $8.50 a week.Thereafter he went to Ireland and worked on behalf of the Sinn Feiners, posing as an Irish victim, he received funds from the Republicans, Two months later, however, the Sina Feiners were informed of his veal history and stopped his allowance.Quinn then got into touch with Dublin Castle and promised to communicate “inside information re- guarding the Sinn Fein “government”.He tracked several Republican leaders, causing their arrests.Last Monday the Sinn Fein usined possession of some dispatches he had mailed to Dublin High Prices “and Exchange London, Fed.23—High prices, necessities and the rate of exchange will be taken up soon by the Supreme Council in conference with the financia: experts.Today's decision is meparate from the earlier London decision to call the finance ministers of the powers together for a discussion of the financlal situation of the world. It is belleved that the members of the Council have not determined what the Council might do toward stabilising exchange and reducing the high prices and will not reach a decision until they hear what the xperts have to say.The proposition to take up the financial matter came after Ruswia had occupied most of the day's discussions. In this connection ft fs considered not unlikely that the members took under advisement the demand of the British newspapers that some settlement with Ruesia ja necessary in order to reduce prices. It has been pointed out that If Europe could get raw materials from Russia it would cut down purchases in the United States against the adverse exchange. In dealing with the Russian question today the members of the Coun ci are represented as recognising an sntively different state of affainy than when the question was last discussed at the Paris meetings.IRISH REPUBLIC BONDS London, Feb.33—8ir Hamar Greenwood, Under-Secretary for Home Affairs, reply to a question in the House of coming summer will be either on the verge of destitution or absolutely starving. As Canadian Minister of Food Supplies, Dr.Robertson sald that while Canadians were clamoring for the Government to pull prices down, the European governments were trying to keep them up because there would be lack of production without good prices.Canada's reputation now was such that she would get the world's best Engineer Tells of Work That Will Be Required on Sewers — She question of the construction of the Bt.Charles River Jocks and the emptying of the City sewers into was covered in à report which been submitted to the City Ceunby City Engineer Baillairge. At meeting of citizens held at City Hall last fall, the chief rea- for the Government aban- the work waa that the City not done its shares of the work, , the diverting of the city’s emptying into the 8t Charles River to have them empty into deep water in the Bt.Lawrence, It was also held on the one hand that with the sowe woulé be Ho hx - pp sewers flowing into the locks it a source of menace to pub- ealth, and on the other, that the collection of water in the eetllars in St.Roche It was decided at that time to ask Dr.C.R.Paquin, the Chief City Medfoal Officer, to report on the sanitary aspect of the question, and City Engineer Baillairge was asked his opin- fon as to the possibility of having the sewers discharge into the locks.Dr.Paquin's report, which was submitted to the meeting of the City Council on Friday stated that, ta his opinion, the sewers might be permitted to empty into the Jocks for two years without constituting a grevious menace to public health, but that it would be intolerable to continue it much beyond that period.Balllalrge Report.Mr.Balllsirge in his report points out that with the locks completed the level of the outlets of the sewers would be lower than the surface of the water in the locks, and as a result these sewers would always be flooded, while at the present time they were only flooded during periods of high tides The conclusions of Mr.Baillairge's report are as follows: A.“Should the City obtain the permission of the Provincial Board of Health to allow the City sewers to discharge into the pond created by the damming of the river, the following works will have to be carried out: “1.Modification of height of part of the city sewer outlets, except that of St Roch's street, z0 that they may continue to discharge at elevation 17.“3, The Bt.Roch's Street sewer will have to be extended towards the Gt.Charles River, iu order to discharge outside of the dam site.“On the north side of the river; lectors and the River will have to be modified west of 4th.Avenue in order to discharge at elevation 17.“A collector drain will have to be constructed from 4th Avenue to the &t Lawrence River.in order to allow the sewerage to flow outside of the dam.A Collecting Druin.B.“Should the City be obliged to divert its sewers outside of the dam, then the following works will be required: “1.A collector drain will have to be constructed from the present sewer near Bell's Road, going eastward to a point outside of the dam.“2.A collector will also have to be constructed from Lavigueur Bridge on the north side of the river, going eastward as far as the St Lawrence River.“The slope of the present sewers situated between the proposed col.flectors and the River wlll have to be reversed, and this includes all that part o.Hare Point situated between Prince Edward Street and Lavigueur Bridge."The following considerationa must also be kept in mind: “1.The expansion of the city in area and population which is always increasing.#3, It the permission given by the Provincial Board of Health is not absolute, and can be revoked in a few years, the modifications which then will have been carried out by the City involving a great expenditure, will be of no utility whatever.“The comparative estimate of any of the above schemes can not be made unless the ahove mentioned considerations be carefully studied, and the preliminary worka to that eftect wilt require the service of two engineers with a proper staff for a period of one year.” Cost of Collecting Drain, Referring to the approximate cost of the collecting drain in another tart of his report, Mr.Palliairge says" “I might call your attention to the fact that the preparation of an estimate of the cost (even though only (THE EPIDEMIC IS SPREADING EAST Nineteen More Municipalities Report Influenza in This Province Montreal, Que, Fed.32.—Between more municipalities in the Province of Quebec reported influenza to the Superior Board of Health. This brings the total of municipalities to 87.The epidemic is now spreading east of Quebec, Rimouski being badly hit with as many as 300 cases The outbreak is, however, of mid form with a low mortality rate everywhere.Montreal has reached it highest death rate from Influenza aince the commencement of the epidemic January 30th, over the week-end.The number of cases reported for Sunday and today were low, showing a substantial drop, but the death rate went on alarming figures. They were respectively 324 and 48.Total deaths were 4¢ from influenza eighteen from pneumonia, and eighteen from broncho-pneumonta.Montreal is now entering the sixth week of the epidemic.During the 1818 epidemic, the diseass had run its course by the time it reached its sixth wesk and it le hoped it will do the same this year, but it has started off much worse in the matter of deaths.Toll Sull Heavy Toronto, Ont, Feb.33.—Reports of 26 deaths from influenza and pneumonia over the week-end, covering 48 hours, Indicate that the diseuse, while dying down, is still taking & heavy toll of lives.Fortunately the total number of deaths from the 'fiu and pneumonias is not by any means as large as à week ago A particularly saû feature of the port is the large number of little children under two years of age, who have become victims. These total eight. In one instance an infant and mother both succumbed to pneumonia, the child being prematurely born.Another little one just two days old was a victim. The record still holds that there are mors dying between the ages of 20 and 40, only two being 50 years or over, and very large proportion of those dying ln early life are married women.PARTY LEADERS WANT A CAUCHS Possibility of Substantial Split Among the Demoorats Over Treaty Washington, D.C., Feb.23.—The posaibility of a substantial break in the Demecratic rank on the peace treaty in the Benate led the party lenders to move today for a caucus to discuss a possible change In party policy, and further served to revive hopes nf the Ilepublican Senators for ratification of the treaty with the Republican reservations adopted at the last session of Congress.Republicans declare that 23 Democrats, only a doren short of the number required to insure ratification, have expressed their willingness to desert President Wilson and taka the Republican reservation programme as it is Democrats say this estimate is exaggerated but admit that there have been defections. The Democratic caucus may bring to a head dissatisfaction that has been smouldering since the President sent his memorable letter to the caucus last November asking Senators of his party to oppose the Republican reservations.Seven who then disregarded his advice have been working among their colleagues since. It is admitted, however, that there is still a long way to go to secure enough .Democrat votes.to ratity. In November thirty four Republicans voted for ratification but now the leaders are sure of only thirty. That leaves thirty four votes to be delivered by the Democrats, not an easy task to secure. The tactics of the Republicans will now be to delay, belleving that Democratic opposition to the President will continue to grow.In the meantime both sides admit that the President has two courses open to him, to take further steps to stiffen the backs of Democratic Senators, or to withdraw the treaty from the Senate.RAILWAY AGENTS REFUSE PREPAYMENTS Montreal, wage demands This was indi cated clearly today in conference between union officials and committeemen, called to pass on President Wilson's settiment proposals Further bitterness was added to the talk of unich men by the passing of the railroad bill by the Senate tonight Among committee chairmen, whé are close to the rank and file of their membership, thers was much talk of strike. This was discounted by higher officials, but it was in evidence In many quarters.Spokesmen for the unions sald tonight that thers appeared to be no way to avoid a direct appeal to the President to veto the rallroad bill. This must be done, to satisfy the workers who have not been in touch with the situation in ington ,they contended. The more influential union leaders deprecate strike talk on the ground that radical proposals at this time will serve to aMenate public sympathy. It is expected that the conferences here will last several days.ash- FUN MMM HERERXS # SHIPPING MOVEMENTS % " “ + 96 96 the public would like to know, whether enidents along the S¢.Charles rives front agreed with Wo Paquin that they could get along with the present potesn of sewer pipes for another two years, locks or w locks.Since shen we have received a textual copy M the City Health Oficer's report which be claims is m answer to our question and evidence that he has seem ill-used by press reports of the proceedings of the Disy Council on Friday evening last.Although wo cannot altogethér agree with this position of Dr.Paquin, it is only fair to say that his report showed a considerably greater appreciation of the pros and cons of the question than could be Indisated in à brief reference. In view of the importance ot the sewerage problem, therefore, and in order to place all the evidence before our readers we now reproduce the document that we have received, which| nick action he taken now and It Is the duty of the bonde: .111th August, 1919.Mr.Mayor—In conformance with your instruc Sons I have given the most careful study to the com- sequences, from & sanitary polat of view, of the empty- tag of tbe city sewerage into the St.Charles River; tocka ; In principle.I do not hesitate to my that the ex" sontion of such à project could not be tolerated with-' ent danger to the public health. However, when one takes the trouble to study the probable situation of | these locks, their method of operstion, the daily vot-; sme of water that must pass through them, the prés) ware that will be exerted on this body of water by the dally opening of the gates, awl the quantity that will remain there even at low thie, one Is disposed to be-, Ueve that the dangers to be apprehended would not be as serious as has heen represented, | Bac (his question Is too important amd tue contro-, versial not to submit the pro and cua to jou before atéempting to establish an opinion. It is evident that the emptying of the sewerage] will create a nuisance, but as this nuisance will ho; caused by deposits of used matter, termed mud, at the bottom of the basins, it is difficult to establish the aumber of months or years required to make It dangerous Everything will depend upon the facility with which this mud, that can be estimated nt 40,000 tons ; per year, is carried off to the river.! It is true that at low water, the current of the’ river will not be sufficient to have any useful effect on, the waters held in the basin, but I am free to state; that it would be possible to change (he volume of; water in the basin from time to time, either by operating tbe gates of the locks, or by the main sluices în- cinded in the project By these means the nulsance would certainly’ be stopped or diminished, hut s point that seems very important to me is the flooding of cer tain sewer pipes.Every one knows that at high tide, water backs ap in the drains of certain streets and at low tide these; drains empty themselves. It therefore follows that | with the locking these same pipes will be always fonded.+ How then should we regard this naimence on the score of public health? It Le à question of bad odors caused by gases, ren- | dered harmless through their great dilution in the, sir, but where these odors are very pronounced, the auisance will cause cven greater discontent than if 16; was dangerous From another side if one takes into consideration | that the used matters will he diluted In à very conshier.able volume of water before being expelled into n fnal basin of twenty feet of water at low tide and that this Basin.being à continuation af the river, will be submitted to all movements of the tide: If one takes into! consideration, 1 ray, that this mud will never be ez- posed to the unhealthy effects of the atmosphere, since ‘ tt will be always In à mate of absorption or dilution, {am very much dispured to belkvve that our risk will; URifed the policy adopted. The Ocean Serviors, be-! be no greater with the propose locks than with une der enjoying & substantial revenue, have contributed control.Hoved by contract from all damages caused by the the resultant riaks and snno7zances Yours sincerely, (Signed) Dr, C.R.PAQUIN, Municipal Physiciant e eo + 0 The Chronicle does not comsider i unfair to summarise the above as mating that, while we can probable continue the present system for another two years with Lupasity, aud although the situation created by the locks will be no mote dangerous than the existing situation, there must be a certain element of risk coupled with a very decided nuisance during that time.Ales that the present system camnot be continued much beyond the limit of two years without becoming dangerous and intolerable. Now drastic alterstions to the sewerage system of a city such as Quedec cannot be made in a day, and probably not in a year. The report of the City Engincer, whose conclusions wil be found elsewhere im this issue, states that a twelve moath’s preliminary ine vestigation will bo necessary.Accordingly it is highly Unprobable that the needed improvements can be completed within Dr.Paquin's two years of grace, even if an active start is made immediately. We have contended all along and are confirmed In our opinion by this expert evidence, that valuable time has already been lost which cannot be recovered. It is on that account all the more imperative that : New Council to order the City Engineer to begin his preliminary study without fartlicr delay.\\ AN ENVIABLE RECORD.One of Canada’s great enterprises with which Quebec is clusely Ilontifed dy reason of its position, is Cansds Steamship Lines, Limited, for which reason the steady progress of the past few years reflected in its annual report published In this luc, will be a source of legitimate satisfaction to this community as à whole. While the Company's record was an outstanding feats ure of the war period so far as the development of the Dominion Is concerned, particular interest attaches to the showing made during 1918 as this is the frst fall year in which the enlarged system has been operated under peace conditions That the record earnings of, 1918 Lave not only been maintained but carried to new high levels Is accordingiy au ample earnest for the! prosperity of Canada fteamships in s normal future.Under the favorable conditions which existed in the carly years of the war the management Tvoked | well ahead and In its varions departments made tong | term contracts which are now sccruing to the benefit : of the company. In addition, the company has round | ed out its entire organization from an inland water concern to a big steamship consolidation, with its various lines established, not only on all the waterways, of Canad, but on the oceans to France and other Furopean points and southward to the West Indies and South America.Of equal importance has been the steady improvement Canada Steamship Lines have made in the class of ; steatners on its various rontes.A large number of the | boats which were turned over st tbe time of the con- sulldation have been sold on favorable terms and have: [been replaced by standard modern vessels.which should ! meet every requirement of the large undertakings of, the company for many years to come.! What has actually been accomplished can he no’ more clearly put than in the words of the President, : Mr.J.W.Norcross, who in his report to the share-j holders, stated in part: “Both the freight and passenger carnings of the, System hav heen eminently satisfactory during the past | | year.Considering chat this is the first year that the company has operated its enlarged systems under peace conditions, these results must be regarded asgratifying and on this account there is cvery justification for lookinæ to the future with confidence.“En conformity with our announced policy of exe tending the field of operations of the company abroad, thus co-ordinating Great Lakes, River and Ocean traffic, your Directors have inaugurated several new services between Canada and Europe and between New York.West Indies and South Amcricn, through the purchase of modern steamers. Some af these vossels | have passengers accommodation. It Is the belief of your Directors that the immigration business will sesame large proportions. The results obtained have already sewers, cannot object to it, it the dity is williug to rue || Special Terms $h Down Payment Low as Epecial *h a Month Special Price Demonstration Think of the time, steps and labor this famous Sellers “Mastercraft” Kitchen Cabinet It is the most complete cabinet ever built.Holds 300 to 400 articles.A complete KITCHEN within your arm's reach. The Sellers has $100,000 worth of improvements found In no other cabinet. One of these, the Automatic Lowering Flour Bin, lu the most practical labor-saving feature ever installed in a kitchen cabinet.will save you.FREE BUY NOW.And get Utensils, valued at $14.00 Beautiful Aluminum Kitchen the RIES PTLee 239 - St Joseph Sheet - 239 Legare's Great Club Plan BY special arrangement with the G.I.Sellers Sons Co., the P.T.Legare Co.Limited, have received an unusual concession, permitting them to sell 50 nationally advertised Cabinets at most remarkable of terms and specially attractive prices.can be extended the privilege of the famous ellers Kitchen Cabinet Sellers Mastercraft TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 1920, Sale Now On Only the first fifty women 15 Advantages possessed by no other single cabinet : 1—Automatic Lowering Flour Bin.S—Automatic Base Shelt Extender ARE LIMITED, in Lower Cupboard.3—Ant-Proof Casters.4—Gravity Door Catches.6-=-Porcelain Work Table.6~Dovetalled Joints and Round Corners.7—False Top in Base—Dutstpevof, 8==All Oak.#=0fl Handrubbed Finish Washstands, Steam in Kitchen.10-Fuil Roll Open Front.11—Roller Bearings of Extension Work Table.18—Comnwdious Kitchen Lines Drawer, 13—White Epamelled Interior—Up- per Section.H—tanitary Leg Base Construc- 16—Glass Drawer Pulls, For à down payment of $5 each, fifty women can put this beautiful labor-saving cabinet in thelr homes. But the Club Plan offer is positively limited to fifty cabinets.Only the first fifty women who come to our store will be the lucky ones.If it is impossible to be at our store early today, mail the 35 to reach us at once.Positively no cabinet will be reserved without the $§ down payment BUY NOW.[ Beautiful! and Crown Prosecutor. It is rumored here that Bir Lomer Gouin favors Mr Godbout, while Hon.L.A.Taschereau, the Attorney General, would like to see Mr.Lachance get the appointment.Owing to a deadlock in the Cabinet the appointment was not made last week and Sir Lomer Gouin and Hon.L.A.Taschereau left last Friday for a hollday trip to the Laurentides.Reports in circulation here sfate that should Captivatod Large Audience Last Evening at Columbus Hall Another delightful! musical treat was afforded Quebec music lovers last evening when, under the direction of Mr.J.A.Gauvin, the famous Flonzaley Quartet gave a performance in the Columbus Hall before an exceedingly large audience which appreciated to the utmost extent the programme presented by this wonderful and inspiring ensemble, and to such a pitch of enthusiasm was the audience aroused that the applause accorded af the conclusion of each number was at times almost denfen- Ing, especially at the end of each: series, when the artistes were obliged to respond to encores which would brook no denial. The reception received by the Quartet, composed of Adolfo Betti, first violin, Altred Pochon, second violin, Louis Bailly, viola, and Iwan D'Archambeay, ‘cello, was not in any way surprising patrons of music In the Ancient Capital have had the pleasure of hearing the Quartet before, and naturally looked forward last evening to a perfect performance, and in this respect were amply rewarded for their attendance. The performance simply captivated the audience which unmistakably showed every sign of its realization of the sympathetic understanding | and musical affinity that existed between the members of the ensemble, which maintained in the rendition ot: every number a standard of tonal beauty, sympathetic interpretation, perfection in detail and an exquisite finish that clearly demonstrated ita: supremacy in the musical world, and to hear it once is an event that can never be effaced from the memory of those who have that pleasure, The opening number was Mozart's quartette in C Major which was appealingly rendered especially the andante and In the menuetto, and as encore “Glazownow's -Interludium™ was given, for which the Quartet received well-deserved and sustained applause.A Russian melody by Osten Sacken opened the second series, and was ezceptiomally sweet.“The Three Ancient Dances” by Vidal, were dslightfully tuneful! especially the Gavotte which was appealing ir- risistible to the sudience and in reply to an encore rendered “By the Tarn", by Goeasens, this proving ss captivating that another encore was demanded this time being a echerzo by Tschaikowsky. The concluding number Dvorak's “American Quartet” op 96 fairly took the audicnce hy storm. The opening number pictures a happy scene In plantation life, In which a summer's evening, after the day's work is finished, is beautifully portrayed and the other movements display the vivid joy in the heart of the negro.Again the ensemble had to respond to an encore in which it rendered that delightful and feeling melody “Molly on the Shore”, by Percy Praiger. The presentation .of this magnif-; cent Quartet was-undoubtedly Mr.Gauvin's grentest sucress of the vea- | son and the next appearance of this magnificent ensemble will be looked’ forward to with the greatest pleasure: by music lovers of this city.SMOKER IN K.OF C.HALL TONIGHT The U.S.Sailors in Port will Be Guests of the Local Council | The program as arranged so far to Le given by the Knights of Culumbus tackle the Toronto 8t.Pats here tomorfow night. The locals feel that it is their turn to win thres or four straight, and they will go after the Irishisen from the first gong.If the locals win tomorrow night's fixture, they will practically cut the Toronto team out of the running for the second halt honore, but if the St.Pats.can turn the trick and repeat their laut victory here, they will be right after the Ottawa Senators. The Queen City team were beaten on thelr own ice on Saturday hy the Senators, anc the locals figure that they will make it two straight, but hockey is like baseball, one can never be sure of the result until the ftnal gong rings.Take last Monday's same, for instance.Who would have thought that Quebec, with a one goal lead, and playing & threc man defence, with only five minutes; to go, could have heen beaten, but the Torentos did the trick. The game ought to attract a record number of spectators, for the llulldogs have struck their stride, and are out to capture the remainder of their games.[If they continue to nlay the brand of hockey that they put on Saturday night there is not a team in the circuit that will beat them. All the players are in the best of shape, and show no {ll effects after the game on Saturday. They all practiced yesterday afternoon, but will rest up today, as they anticipate n hard match tomorrow. The Torontos will have their regular team on hand and will make a desperate effort to capture the game, for they realize that they must win tomorrow's fixture if they are to have iny chance at all in the second half for the title honors, and therefors the Greenshirts will put up one fight from start to finish, in order to em- crge on the long end of the score. The sale of seats will open this morning at the usual places, West Side, Hebert's Cigar Stand, Auditorium Building, and East 8ide, C.P.R.Telegraph Co., Merger Building .The Saints will have Mitchell or Lockhart in the nets, Randall, Heffernan or Matte on the defence, with Goldie Prodgers, Cully Wilson, Noble Roach, Dye and Denneny on the forward line, so that it is easily seen the Irishmen will put up a bitter battle in order to take tomorrow's game. The other game le at Ottawa between the Canadiens and Ottawa The chances are that the Ottawa bunch will win out as the Canadiens seem to be off color, but then Toronto were picked to win over the Senators last Saturday in the Queen City, and the opposite happened. One thing that stands in the Senators’ favor is the fart that they have only, lost one game at home so far this season, ut the Canadiens may accomplish the unexpected, and hand out a trimming to the Rarber Poled puck chasers that wear the red white and black. On Saturday, the Quehec team travel to Montreal, where they hope to duplicate have their hands fuil at the local Arena this evening, when they meet a team’ composed of the best players In the elty. The game will go threes full twentles, and the Irishmen will travel at top speed all the way through, Their opponents will have two complete teams to call upon, and will change their men at frequent intervals, in order to make the champions play from start to finish. There are no less than 15 players who will oppose the Clty League champions tonight, and they have Leen drawn from the three other teams that played City League hockey this winter. The game Is only an exhibition, but it promises to show the Sons that they have bitten off a big mouthful In attempting to down the All Star team. The thing that is going to be hard on the Sons is the third period, and here their opponents figure that they will trim the Irishmien, for they think that with fifteen against the nine or tem who will wear the Green and White uniform, they will be able to effect their changes more frequently than the sons, but the latter have s hardy little team, and ought to put up one whale of a fight from the start of the initial twenty until the final gong ir.the third period. The game will be well worth watching, and although un number have picked the Irish team as the winners, there will be a lot of uncertainty as to the result right up to the final whistle.‘The team that will represent the All Btars will be selected from the following players: Goal, Turgeon, or Lamere: Defence, Roy, Delaney, Mill, Alec Dinan, O'Brien, or Morissette: centre, Bols or Frankie Dinan: right wing, Drouin, Hawkins or Kenny: and Left wing, Kane, Power, or lapointe. Thus it will be seen that a powerful outfit will take their sticks in hand and do battie with the wearers of the Green and White, and if the Hons can vanquish the team that will face them tonight, they need have no fear about thelr opponents in the Metropolis next Monday.Dave Power ie named as the Nkely referee, while the other officials will be the same as were on hand for the City League games all season, name ly, Dan Griffin, scorer: Jos.Bussieres timer: Billy Sharpe: penalty recorder and
