Lackawanna and Western Railroad Company, together with members of the local police and fire departments are making an effort to determine the exact location of à fire, in which is believed to be old mine workings about 600 feet below the surface.It is believed that there are two mammoth mine fires and that the flames are spreading over an underground area of approximately fifty acres.\u2019 The presence of gas and black damp prevented firemen from going down the shaft in an attempt to find just where the blaze is located.While there appears to be no immediate danger to the thousands of people living over this particular area, officials fear that if any surface settlings should occur while the blaze is raging, the fumes of gas, sulphue and biéck damp\u2019 would creep up through ths
