Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

Cancelled—Intention Is To Hold Elections As Much Before Christmas As Possible ‘ Ottawa, Sent.21—With nominations In the West York Lye-election due ut noon tomorrow, there ls, it 1s stated in well in formed circles tonight, a likelihood that the dissolution of Parliament will be formally announced in the morning. All official preparations for the holding of a general election have Leen made. The writs ure ready to be issued; instructions to returning officers and so forth have been prepared.Notificution of dissolution and instructions to issue writs, with the lixinæ of polling day, are ulone needed tu nel the machinery in motion. The Prime Minister has already.made the official announcement thut the West York bye-election will not be held. But so far there huve heen no of.fictul instructions to stay proceedings and, without such instructions, nomination will proceed.Dissolution of Parliament and the Issuance of write for a general election would, however, under recent legislative enactments, override the bye-election writ issued in West York and the dfe-sluction procesdingy” wowid- automatically terminate. For that reason, It is thought likely that dissolu- tiin is imminent. On the occasion of the last dissolution of Parliament, In 1917.there was a delay of several weeks between actual dissolution and the issue of writs for the general elec- tlon. But, on the present occasion, there is every probability that the delay will he short. The Intention is to hold the elections well before Christmas. If at all possible.Monday, Nov.28, or Monday, Dec.§, are both suggested ns likely dates. In any event, under the amended Dominton Elections Act.roughly two months must elapse between the is- mie of the writs and the holding of the election, Representations have further heen made that the date of the elections should be fixed an early na possible in order that there might he as Fittle dislocation of Christmas: huniness as possibile.Another polnt in connectior with the coming fight in that ail elections must be held on the same day, There are no deferred elections, In only one case is authority given to defer an election, vix.: the death of one of the candidates nominated.Even In the Yukon, the alection must be held on the same day ns in the rest of the Dominion. Thus preparations for ait the 235 constituencies have to he made simultaneously and there in every reason why the writs should be issued with little delay.Furthermore, the Prime Minister In scheduled to open his campaiæn at Portage 1a Prairie on Sept.24 and will naturally wish to clear away all pending business before leaving Ottawa.‘There ie à ponsibility, however, that the date of the Portaxe meeting may he postponed for a day or two, The new Ministers aworn in this morning as members of the reorganized Cabinet were on hand at their Departments during the day to meet the deputy heads. The vacancy as Bolicitor-General remains to he filled and in likely also to Ro to Quebec.Under the original plan.Hon.Rodolphe Monty, of Montreal.aworn in today as Secretary of State, was to have heen Solicitor General with: Cabinet rank. The arrangement was changed, however, and Mr.Monty took charge of the Department formerly presided over hy the late Mrsifton.Contest All Seats.Montreal, Sept.?21-—Honorahles Dallantyne, that he would lay down the linen of his campaign and inaugurate the election fight here.Candidates would be placed in every County of the Provinos of Quebec and certainly in the, CANADIAN NAVY È Canadians of this Province, talk seriously to them and Hon.C.C.Ballantyne said that he did not know what tariff policy, Hon.W.L.MacKenzie King stood for.At Toronto the |.sader of the Opposition had would net return to the United Btates with the body of an unknown United Gtates soldier. His trip, he said, had nothing to do with the selection of à body and no private soidier was accompanying him tor the purpose of making à selection. This announcement caused surprise, inasmuch as all the despatches from the United States had declared that General Pershing was bringing a private from the ranks to chooses the body.General Pershing will go to L.on- don after the ceremonies in France and decorate the ve of the British “unknown soldier” with the Consgressional medal. He will proceed
