en route by a quantity of wreckage upon tho line between Warwick nod Danville, caused by a eollisbn between two freight trains. The cause of the accident is unknown, but it is supposed to be due to some error in telegraphing.Thu drivers of both trains believed that they had the right of way, and the first intimation they had of the threatened danger was when they saw that a collision was imminent.Thinthedriter andtirenunof both engiaes shut off steam and jumped for their livis. All fortunately escaped without serious injury. Both trains were running at a fair rate of speed, but the shutting off of steam is said to have reduced the speed before the collision occurred, though it did cot prevent both locomotives and a number of cars bring thrown from the track. There is of course considerable loss to rolling stock, though the damage is not so heavy as reported in tho city yesterday morning. Some hours were occupied in clearing the debris from the lins, and the Intercolonial down train delayed its departure until the arrival of the G.T.R.Western mail and express.A strict enquiry will ba held immediately into the cause of accident by tbo railway au-thoritits.SEASON SALE ! The Carters and the Livery Stables.—The Haokmens’ Association of this city has entered an action in the Recorder’s Court against a leading livery stable-keeper, charging him with violating tbe city laws in relation to carters’ licenses, etc., by soliciting hire and conveying passengers to and from the steamboats and railway depots without taking out sufficient numbers as provided by the Corporation by-laws.The case comes up for hearing in the Recorder’s Court this morning and a good deal of interest is taken in the matter by tho hackmen who have retained tho services of Mr.M.A.Hearn, Q C.It appears that similar action has already been taken on former occasions, and the prosecution dismissed, though the carters say that the result was due entirely to technicalities.Duped.—Yesterday, a yonegmau who was evidently a stranger in town was amusing himself upon Duffiria Terrace, when he was approached by a party who entered into conversation with him, and commenced to talk of the various sights of the city.Seeing that his companion appeared interested in this subject ho offered to endeavor to obtain him admittance to tbe gallery and museum of Laval University, saying that the ticket of admission cost 75 cents, but that he would endeavor tc obtain it for 50 cents, which was placed in his hands by his dupe.In a minute or two the sharper returned to bis man and Raid that the other 25 cents w&s dimanded. It was conirqncit’y hsnfed over and then the defrauder decamped, the porter of the University informing the pnor dupe, when he heard his story, that ho had been shamefully imposed upon.Briton Medical and General Life Association (Limited).—For the information of our readers, insured in the above association, it may be of interest to state that a dividend or apportionment of tbe Canadian depotit, some $100,000 to $120,000, will take place as soon after the sale of the bonds and debentures composing this security (now in the Receiver-General’s hands) can be made, most probably after an order of the Court, at the close of the present Casation.Due notice will be given when the dividend will be paid to each policy holder.Although the percentage will be small, compared with the face of policies, it will be matter of *ome satisfaction to those who have waited long for this adjustment, to see.an end of it.And poor aa tho result is, is a strong argument in favor of the policy of protection to insurers in foreign offices, through stringent laws requiring ample deposits as security in the hands of our Dominion Government.Accidental Drowning of Two Young Boys—We learn with regret of the sad drowning on Wednesday afternoon of two young boys belonging to Levis. The accident occurred at 8t.David de 1'Auberiviere, and the victims were sons of Mr, Etienne Lemieux, a meseenger employed at the Parliament Hcuee, and nephews of Mr.F.X.Le-mieux, M.P.P.They were aged 11 and 13 years respectively, and were on a virit to friends at St.David, for their holidays. They were boatffig upon a stream, when their craft upret, and both were precipitated into the water.Several children who were playing upon the bank witnessed the accident but were unable to rende** any assistance. They gave the alarm, but when assistance arrived and tho bodies were taken out of the water, life was.found to he extinct. The remains of the little victims were removed to Levis where an inquest was held yesterday afternoon by Coroner Bdleau, molting in the return ofa virdictof “Accidentally drowned." Consumption Can be Cured By proper, healthful exercise, and tho judicious u-e of-Scctt’a Knm’siou of Ccd Live-** Oil and Hypophosphites, wbi b contains tho healing ani strength-giving viituis of these two valuable specifics in their fullest form.Dr.D.D.McDinsld, Potitcodiae, N.B.says : “I hive been prescribing Scott s mulsion with good results. It is especially useful in persons with consumptive tomhneios.” 1’ut up 5Cc.and $1 size.PARASOLS VERY CHEAP.It is estimated that the total number of books iu all the American public libraries is 21,000,000.SOOTHING, CLEANSING, HEALING.It Cnres DLD IN THE HEADSj Tn r C:!:! l.i hesd, 1/ \\m\\r.M Fryn miémm .-Tor.s .-.y._ -rnrrf-m from — ¦ .1 V;i,al juifs:;'*'*s in.•EASY TO USE.to the liiroat nnd rrees5lvo expectoration canred by Catarrh.Sent pre paid on receipt of price.50c.and $1.Address FULFORD & CO., Brockville, Ont.February 27,188-8. Lmd&w TOURISTS VlSIHfl .Arc invited to inspect our large and choice Stock of Faflcy IipM M Goflis !
