judgment this afternoon, dismissing the action of the Bell.Telephone Company agaiost the Montreal Street Railway Company. In this case the Bell Telephone Company sued the Street Railway Company for some $30,000 damages, complaining that the introduction of the electric trolley car system into Montreal in 1892, cs used, and has been causing ever since, a serious disarrangement of the telephone service, and necessitated the adoption of a number of expensive contrivances to counter-ati the effect of the presence of the trolley wires.ONTARIO.Ottawa, June 30—Senator Read, of Belleville, died here last night. He was 82 years of age.The remains will be interred in Belleville. The deceased was married two years ago to Mrs.Wartman, of this city, a sister of Dr.Horsey.It is now stated that Park, in the east end, with a bullet hole in hie head and in au unconscious condition. The police and medical aid were summoned and after he was restored to consciousness he was conveyed to the hospital. On being questioned Byatt claimed to have fallen among thieves and been sandbagged and mentioned the name of a yourg man of the city who is known to be a particular friend of his. There is considerable mystery about the case.Byatt formerly lived here and moved to Buffalo only a few months ago.He came over on Tuesday with his wife and after voting went back, leaving Mrs.Byatt here.He return#-! to Stratford last night, arriving by the 9.30 train, but did not join his wife aud she did not know he was here until he was found this morning.Of the time elapsing between Hyatt’s arrival last night and his being found as stated nothing at present is known. He was in the habit of carrying considerable money about with him, but none was found ou him this morning, though his watch and ring were not missing.Cartridges were found in his pocket, but there is no trace as yet of a revolver.Three bullets were found embedded in a tree close by and on its roots dried blood. If Byatt fired the shots himself the disappearance of the revolver is unaccountable, and if they were fired by auothcr his presence in the park requires explanation, as it lies in the opposite direction from where Mrs.Byatt is staying.Byatt kept a grocery store at 366 Vermont street, Buffalo, and was believed to be doing fairly well.Fits of melancholy to which he was subject may have something to do with the matter. It is thought he will recover.Sault Ste.Marie, June 30—Dyment’s (Liberal) majority in Algoma, as far as heard from up to ten o’clock, is 1,234.His election is conceded being presumably io collusion with the strikers.Meantime a mob of at least 5,000 men war surging all around the police who were guarding the workmen. When it became evident that the street cars would not stop, it was determined to march to the 4th precinct for safety.A start was made in that direction, the mob growing more noisy and violent every moment. Finally the police charged, scattering the strikers right and left and knocking them down by the dozen.Twenty men were seriously injured by the police. All the ambulances aud all the available police force of tho city were onlied to the
