Titre :
The Quebec mercury

Firemen can at once in safety be elevated to whatever portion of the premises on fire is most desirable.During the past year three miles of water pipes have been laid, and the water.turned on within the city, and we have just reason to hope that in four of our wards there is no longer cause to fear extensive fires.Among the many benefits arising from these works several medical men of eminence have attributed our having suffered less from cholera than Montreal last summer, unlike former ysars, to the use of the Loretta water. The different system which the hydrants will render necesiary at fires suggests the propriety of considering, whether train oil men added to the Police force and skilled m the management of these works incorporated with a select and greatly reduced number of firemen would not considerably increase the efficiency and economy of tho fire department. The whole coat to complete the Aqueduct and Drainage, as estimated within the last three months by Mr.Baldwin, drops of nitric ether to the most rancid oils, all the disagreeable smell is removed, and that by afterwards warming the oil, to separate the spirit from it, it becomes as clear and limpid as though it had never been otherwise than sweet. He says that a few drops of ether in a bottle of oil will prevent it from ever becoming rancid.BY TELEGRAPH.TIA MONTREAL LINE.ARRIVAL OF T™ STEAMS* A TL it soon generates serious and bv\tbeen ayoidod This is alike tmo of Colds, Feverish symptoms, and Bilious derangements. They all tend to become or produce the (loop seated nnd formidable distempers which loud the hearses all over the land.Hence a reliable family physic is of the first importance to the public health, nnd this Fill has hoen perfected with consummate skill to meet that demand. An extensive trial of its virtues by Physicians, Professors, and Patients, hns shown results surpassing any thing hitherto known of any medicine.Cures have been effected beyond belief, were they not substantiated by person* of such exalted position and character ns to forbid the suspicion of untruth.Among tho many eminent gentlemen who have testified in favor of these Fills, wo may mention : Du.A.A.Hayes, Analytical Chemist, of Boston, end State Assaycr of Massachusetts, whoso high professional character ia endorsed by the Hon.Edwaud Everett, Senator of the U.8.Robert C.Wintukot, certificates, from all parts where the Pills have been used, but evidence even more convincing than the experience of eminent public men ia found in their effects upon trial. These Pills, the result of long investigation and study, are offered to tho public as tho best and most complete which tho present state of medical science can afford. They are compounded not of the drugs themselves, but of the medicinal vixtuea only of Vegetable remedies, extracted by chemical Srocess in a state of purity, nnd combined togethef i such a manner a* to insure the best results. This system of composition for medicines has been found In the Cherry Pectoral and Pill* both, to produce a tnore efficient remedy than had hitherto been obtained by any process. The reason is perfectly obvious- While by the old mode of composition, cvcrv medicine is burdened with more or less of acrimonious and injurious qualities, by this each individual virtue only that is desired for the curative effect is present. All tho inert and obnoxious quoi itics of each substance employed nre left t>chind, the curative virtues only being retained.Hence it ia self-evident the effects should prove aa they have proved more purely remedial, and the Pills a surer, more powerful antidote to disease than any othoc mediemo known to tho world. As it is frequently expedient that my medicine should be taken under tho counsel of an attending Physician, and as he could not properly judge of fe remedy without knowing its composition, 1 jVctr York Advertisements.FROM VISSCHER k SCHELL\u2019S GENERAL ADVERTISING
