Daily evening mercury

The Revel Gazettc says a band of brigands is now investing Bathonia under the leadership ofa native of that province named Jurri Rummo, who as become & terror tu the inha bitants. Two of his accomplices, huve just arrowted, made some important revelations The chief of the bundittii it seems, eof fected an entry into the castle of Herkull, penetrated as far as the bedrooms, stole several clocks, waiches | and revolvers, and left without being noticed, having profited by the slumber of the occupants to commit the burglary.Ho escaped the search that was instituted by hiding in a! cornfield.Jurri Ruwmmo moves rapidly from oue pluce to another, and contrives, by 8 frequent change of vehicles and horses, to throw his pursuers off the scent, leaving de animals which bave broaght him to the scone of a rubbery near tue spot, and riding off on others, which be © borrows” for the purpose from their owners.Asa necessary result, bis “ description ” bus to be constantly changed, the steeds of yesterday not being tboge of to-morrow.The popuia- tion are afraid to denounee him, and regard the desperado in the light of à hero.He has been during enough to travel: post.On one occasion the intendent of the Chateau of Arrohof, hear Pornau, succeeded in capturing and handing bim over to the authorities; Rummo, however, got free, und only his sonveyance was found with the stulen articles. The pea- | sanis of the village of Reeitel made à regplar hunt after the robber, but merely managed.sa in tbe ose already cited, Lo seine the cart and ils contents. At this yory pince, indeed, he took refugo in 4 public beer shop. The gountry paople who were present suspected.that he formed fact was prosiaimed, the audacions marauder suddenly got up from a corner, leaving bis boots behind him.A few steps from the door he met a farm laborer and told the lutter he bad left his shoes in return for the property taken from the lord of the manor.Quits Yutoly, _Rummo went ds far as Oberpahleh, and arrived there in an appropriated orrriage and ir.; the int of bring taken’ into castody, the Protean bandit vanished afresh Ih a seemingly miraculous manner, In every boutitry, women always have à encaking kindness for this kind of gentry, and (he fuct, holds in the caso of Jueri Rummo. It is the weaker sox whe Gaditautly assist him in his exploits and miraculoys escapes. Some almost 'chivalroyg traits, are re rted of him.An instance in poist mmo enters & poor womans hut and demands a diner Ho gous into the vard and kiils pose with his avr hand, has it écoted, and ldaveh bank nute for 28 rables in the A + the astonished Woman. He is said to his correspondence and acecunts ouble entry 1ik# any baaïnege mag.fa , } ur ah WIR be), er ous Ten Vat by | distinguish them. The principle is that when the is working the neédle, a series of motions are made along the michrophonic slide inatead of aleng papor, and the sounds thus produced are com municat- od from the microphone to the telephone.By modifying the batte power, the intensity of Lbe sounds can be increased so as to be heard 30 yards from the instrument, or so Jiminisbed as to be quite inaudible to a patient, and to uire that the physician shall apply the telephone to his ear to be able to In its present ent, Dr.Richardeon stage of dev said the wphygmophone was not so ap plicable to the cordiac as to the wrist pulse, but he had almost arrived at an imstrument which he auticipated would indicate failore of chest movement in particular parts of the chest. An experiment with the instrument was then made, and the sound of the puise beating at the wrist of one of the gentlvmen present made audible with different degrees of intensity.Dr Richardson then gave an account of bis own experience with the instrument in specially indicating palpitation, sortic deficiency, increased and deficient arterial relaxation, partial intermittenee, and anæ- mia, sud his rensons for belivving that its uso would throw incressed light on these derangements of the circulation.A man who was taking leave of his daughter at Gloucester Station on Friday was knocked down by the moving train, and being throws on the line was run over aad killed.‘Beckeley, Sept, 1869.—Uentiemen, | foul it a duty | ewe to you to express my gratitude tor the grapt benefit !
