objects to being included in the operations of the convention it can disassociate itself from the mother country in this matter by giving notice of its intention within one year of the signing of the traaty, which is dated April 26th, 1888 By this treaty, therefore, Canada can send her fish to all Spanish ports on terms as favorable.as those accorded to any other nation, unless the notice referred to is given within the year Without such notice Canada is a party to the treaty until 1892.Should it come about that a treaty with the United States was practicable, Canada would not, after 26th April 1887, be able to give the United States any advantage withheld from Spain.Possibly, however, the imports from Spain are not such as to clash with those from the United States, With no other nation could any questicn arise, since Spain is merely put on the most favored nation footing, which is one already oceupied by the majority of other countries. For this reason it does not appear that Canada has anything to fear from the treaty, though it seems rather an anomaly that a self-governing colony like ours, regulating its own tariff, should be dependent on some other administration for its commercial treaties, The right to make commercial treaties would seem to be an inseparable accompaniment of regulating its own tariff, England’s treaty with Spain, like her treaties with other nations, is based] on the requirements of the people of the United Kingdom.A convention is made to suit their interests, and the colonies may come in or stay out as they please.‘There is nothing to be said against this so far as it goes, but it is only a negative blessing and does not place Canada in the position that is essential to her commerce. If the Dominion desires to make special arrangements with any nation for the interchange of commodities on terms varying from those covered by that nation’s treaty with England, it would be necassary first to move England with all her cumbrous diplomatic machinery, Such a desired arrangement might conflict with unknown interests in Great Britain, when delays and difficulties would occur that might take Canada years to, understand and overcome, England teaches her colonies the lesson of adapting their tariff to their individual needs, She will not vary her own tariff one iota fo favor imports from the colonies, and she interferes with the fiscal arrangements of India to keep those markets open for her manufacturers, Her colonies follow her example, but to be able to conduct their business to the best advantage it is necessary that they should be empowered fo regulate their tariff in connection with possible bargains with other nations, MIGRATION TO CANADA, Our London correspoudent has called our attention to the small percentage of British emigration that is leaving for Canada, The official returns show that in the first eight months of 1886 there left Britain, of British subj cts for the United States and the leading B:itish Colonies, 152,500 persons.Of these Ireland sent’ the United States, or 8,000 more than in the previous year; 18,800 to Canada, against 15900 in the same period last year; and 26,700 to the Australasian colonies, against 24,600 last year. Our cor- occupied by Canada as compared both with the United States and Australasia, and he ascribes it to the inferior inducements offered in the form of assisted passages, assistance from the Canadian Government being extended oaly to farm laborers and domestic servants, Helis of opinion that this aid should be given to all who will come as bona fide emigrants, and he instances the low passage rates offered by United States steamship lines, which, however, is due to excessive competition the.present year between rival lines, He also explains that the Australian Governments are offering liberal bonuses to secure immigrants, the sum which an English emi- graut is vbliged to pay to a steamship company being only £1 4s., this as againet £6 to Canada.Qur correspondent votes the Canadian policy niggardly aad short-sighted.It may ba, but at the same time tho assisted passage system is liable to gross abuse. As a matter of fact it was greatly abused, it being a safe assertion that the people of Canada paid to “assist” many thou- saads of British emigrants to reach the United States, S:ill, it is clear that there is something wrong in a system which fails to secure for Canada anything like a respeciable share of the entire emigration. It mry ba that our emigration agents ia Britain are not the right men in the right place. As every one knows, they were not selected because of special qualifications for the work.Ia Mr, Dyke at Liverpool, and perhaps another, the Government have efficient representatives, but it is a great question whether both the system and the agents as a whole should not make way to something more modern and mors energetic. The Canadian Pacific Brilway Company was expected to play a great part in stimulating emigration from the British Isles to Canada, and no doubt good seed is being so wa, the returns from which will coms by and bye.Doubtless, when the Goverament have organized a system worthy ofthe name and selected its officiale from among men of recognized fitness for the work, and when the Canadiar Pacific have realized the fact that it will pay them to place one of their very ablest men ia the field where emigration originates, we shall see a different state of things.Meantime, the feeling in Canada is that the Government are already paying too dearly for all the results that are apparent, and that more money will not be votel by Parliament except on the uuderataud- ing that a better use is to be made of it than has bsen visible for some years past.A modern, intelligent, comprehensive system will receive public sanction. The present ‘‘ go as you please” methods will stand no further patching and should be wiped out.—_———e——m—— THE MOLSON S BARK.The report of the Directors of the Molsons Bank, laid before the shareholders yesterday, a copy of which will be found in to-day’s HERALD, was brief but gratifying.1t announced that the net profits of the year amounted to $290,391 that in addition to the dist#ffution of the annual dividend of eight per cent.requiring $160,000, the directors have added to the Rest $125,000 and carried forward the sum of $22,663 at the credit of Profit and Loss. After providing for bad and doubtful debts the profits of the year amounted to 14} per cent., a most satisfactory showing. The Rest now amounts to $800,000 or 40 per cent.of the capital, and the directors say that “from this substantial pro- “ gress and from the improved business “ prospects we may reasonably hope for ‘the attainment of a Rest of $1,000,000 “or 50 per cent.on the capital within a “few years.” An agency was established at Norwich, Oat, during the year, and Another will be opened at St.Hyacinthe in a few days, A part of the business of the meeting was the adoption of a motion by Mr.John Crawford, suggesting to the directors the organization of a scheme providing & superannuation fund for the officers of the bank, an appropriation of $5,000 a year for the next 20 years being reserved from the bank’s funds for that purpose, The officers were highly eulogized by Mr.Crawford, and special reference was mada by Mr.Andrew F.Gault to the invaluable services of Mr, Thomas, the General Manager, The meeting, like the earnings, was of the most satisfactory character. There is probably no more judiciously managed banking institution in Canada than the Molsons Bank, ———— THE PERMANENT EXHIBITION.Since Parliament is to be asked fora grant of $100,000 for the proposed permanent exhibition in London, and the Imperial Government and other colonies are to contribute, we presume in like proportion, it would be well if an account of the receipts and disbursements attending the course of the Colinderies was published. We do not object to the proposed exhibition, nor to the country contributing to its cost; on the contrary we believe that it will be, or should be, money wall spent, but a good deal is gaid 45,800, Scotland about 17,000, and a recognized organ of the French wing of the Liberal party ever since it was established ; and now because its managing director happens to be Mayor, the Gazette wishes to have the Patric silenced.Itin- gists that the Patric writers shall pick and choose their words to suit the delicate taste of the Gazette, Most persons will fail to ses why the Gazette should assail the Mayor for what appears in the Patrie.Do:æ the Mayor not fulfil his official duties? If not, call him to account, But no one pretends that the Mayor fails in his duties, and the citizens generally give him credit for being the best Mayor Montreal has had for many years, The truth, however, is that the Mayor is attacked for being a Liberal, and for no other reason, and it is hoped by assailing the Mayor to silence La Patric. The device is as transparent asit is cowardly and mean, ee THE JEWS.—When the Gazcite was attempting to make political capital with the Jews against ths Liberals out of an inoffensive remark made by Mr.Beau- soleil in reference to Mr, Helbronner, a letter was addressed to the paper calling its attention to the fact that the Ross Government had fixed election day for Oct, 14 which this year is the day set aside for the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, and a day of solemn and rigid observance by the Jewish people, As Mr.Hart, the Gazette's correspondent, has pointed out, the effect is to temporarily disfranchise the Jews of the Province of Quebec. It is scarcely necessary to add that the Gazette, which was taking such a deep interest in the Jews, refused to publish the letter, which will be found in to-day’s HERALD, along with a letter from Mr.Sternberg in correction of the Star.Neither the Gazelle nor the Star has taken much by its dandling of a grievance which proves to be a boomerang. The correspondence will be found on our sixth page, For ENGLAND.—Hon, Mr, Lacoste, representing the Quebec Government, and Mr, Kerr, Q.C., acting for the banks, will leave for the forwards, however, bad a tendency to hang too long to the ball and would do better if they passed a little more.In one respect they are away behind the Montrealers that is ic their dribbling, which was poor in the extreme, and showed great want of their association practice. The forwards in the old couutry Rugby teams are now paying great atteution to their dribblivg, and gain as many trys and rouges in this manner as with their runs.Rugby players shouid remember it is football not scramball” they are supposed to play, and should avoid the tight packed scrimmages we so often eee here, and go iu a little more for the use of the foot.We think the Britanniaa bave made a great mistake in doing away with their association practices and are sure their general play would improve if they devote gay two mornings a week to the dribbling game.It is also a great pity that the Association matches between the two city clubs are likely to be dropped this season. That it is a far prettier game to watch than the Rugby there is no doubt, and we are sure thut if the players try it thoroughly for a season they would like it better. We sincerely hope before the season is over that we shall see the Montreals, Britanniae, ‘a8 well ss McGill, able to put a good Association eleven on the field.Lacrosie, A general meeting of the Committes of Management of the National Amateur Lacrosse Association of Canada will take place this evening at the Windsor Hotel, when important business, including the -question of tie draw between the Ontarios and Torontos, will be brought forward. The opinion on this subject ie greatly divided. The Ontarios and Shamrocks, we expect, will vote for the draw being played oft, and, of course, the Torontos will rusb for another chauce. If the laws are abided by, there ie no question that the draw should be replayed. However, the Cinmon sense view of the matter would give the Montrealers the flags.Cricket.COMPLETE RECORD OF THE PLAYING BY THE ENGLISH CRICKETERS.The following is from the Boston Globe: The tour of the team of visiting amateur cricketers from the south of Eogland -counties 13 completed, and to say that it has been a great success falls short of the reality.10 describe their wanderings through the United States and Canada as ‘a triumphant progress is by no means to exaggerate the facts, seeing that in no game have they lost their grip on victory, although in the Longwood matcu (probably their tizotest contest) the result was #ery close, but in this the odds were fifteen men against eleven, Opening their American trip September 1, 2 and 3 they met and easily defeated a twelve of the Staten lsland club, which included the well known professionals, Butler and Lane, winning by an inning and 49 rune, the score being: Englishmen —203 [Cobb 47 and Key 42]; Staten Islany —74 [Massey 22] and 80 [Butler 281.Cottrell bowied 7 wickets for 17 runs in the first inniog and Rotherham 7 for 25 in the second. At Toroute, Ont., September 7, 8 and 9, they played against an eleven of the Ontario Association of Cricket Clubs, and another easy victory was gained, The Englishmen were first to bat, and scored 169 runs, toward which Buckland and For- tescue contributed 54 and 58 respectively. The Untarice’ first inning totalled 72 [Harley 40], and having to follow their inning, their second essay produced 111, of which total Allan made 45 and Ferris 88.This left the Englishmen 15 to get to win, but in doing so they lost two good wickets, the game thus going to the visitors by eight wickets, : At Montreal on September 11,13 and 14- they played twelve men against a six, teeen of Montreal, and this was a very decisive victory, as the Evglishmen’s total for their single inning was 257 (Turner 57, Key 52, and Bainbridge 47), while the sixteen were only able to put together 85 and 55 in their two innings, Lacy being the principal scorer with 24, After this came the match at Longwood against fifteen of the Longwood club, and this proved the closest game of the whole trip. The Longwoods went first to bat and totalled 96.To this the Gentlemen responded with the very small score of 77.In the Longwoods’ second inning, all were dismiseed tor 43, leaving the visitors 63 rune to gt to win, This comparatively easy task, however, was not accomplished until seven of the best English wickets had been secured by the brilliant bowling and superb fielding of the home players, and a meagre victory by three wickets only was reeorded.Next à match against a fifteen of New England was in order, and again the totals in the first innings ran very close, as the Britishers’ score was 116 and that of All New England 109.New England, however, would have made put a poor showing had iv not been for the brilliant batting and splendid stand made by the Lowell playere, Comber and Bland, who scored 24 and 47 respectively.A second inning was begun by the visitors, and at the call of time they had put together 136 runs for the loss ot seven wickets. The match resulted iu a draw.September, 20, 21 and 22 at Baltimore, they eucouutered seventeen of the Baltin more club, and handsomely defeated them by an inning and 63 rons, the score being: Englisl.men, 257 (Key 96, Bainbridge 49); Baltinicres, 82 and 122.H.M.Brune, formerly of St.Paul’s School, Concord, N, H., sustained the brunt of the bowling for the Southerners. At Philadelphia, September 23, 24 and 25, wa played what has been Jooked upon 88 the “ test” match of the tour, and in this u splendid field of Philadelphians was Overwhelmingly defeated by the large score Of 323 in oue inning, to 168 and 139 in two Inninge.Towards the enormous total put THE MONTREAL HERALD AND DAILY COMMERCIAL GAZETTE, TUESBAY.OCTOBER 12 together by the visitors, Key contributed 108, Roller 75, Fortescue 31° and Rother- bam 27.The largest contributors for the Philadelphians were G.S, Petterson 32 and 19 and J.À.Scott 18 and 31.This game went Lo the visitors by an inning and 16 runs, .The match et Staten Island, September 27, 28 and 29, against a picked eleven of all New York, exhibited the strategy of the visitors. The New Yorks went first to bat and accumulated 143, of which Davis ecored 34 and Lamkin 26.The vistors, fighting against time, played carelessly and were all dismissed for 75.Then came the stratezic work The New Yorks were literally mown down for 4l runs only, and the visitors bad ninety minutes left in which to get 110 runs to win.Roller and Bsinbridge were the first two batters, and, hitting everything, they put together 108 runs before being parted, when Key joined his captain, and the winning hit was made within a minute of the cali of time, the match going to the visitors by 9 wickets. The concluding match of the tour was a return one with Philadelphia, commencing Friday and Saturday of last week and being completed Monday. This was a victory for the Englishmen, The Phila- delphians scored 128 [Morgan 45] and 146 [Pattereon 40].The Englishmen’s first inning resulted in 235, of which Buckland made 82, Cobb 51, Ksy 30, and Rowiler 28 On going in a second time, forty runs were needed to win, and these were obtained fur the loss ot four wickete, the game thus going to the visitors by six wickets.SUMMARY.Matches played, 9; secondly, those which are caused by a bad state of the blood, and which attack various parts of the body in different ways.Skin disease shows itself in the HEAD, sometimes in the form ot Dandruff which no amount of brushing and combing will get rid of, and sometimes in the form of Scaly Eruptions. In the NECK, by an enlargement of the glands (commonly called Glandular Swellings), which if unchecked become very unsightly wounds. In the ARMPITS, and the inside ofthe ELBOWS, by an inflamed Roughness of the Skin, which is very painful when washed. In the HANDS, by deep Cracks or Fissures, which, if healed for a few days, speedily open again, or by horny-look- ing patches.Inthe LEGS, by Hara, Shiny and Inflamed Swellingg, or by wounds more or less deep.Andon the BODY, in Red Scaly Patches, which as often as rubbed off, form again, or in the discharge of a thin watery fluid of a very disagreeable nature. In all these cases the treatment must be twofold. An Ointment is required to relieve Itching, and Medicine must be taken to change the atate of the Blood, and render it pure. Both these requirements are supplied by Dr.Roberts’ Celebrated Medicines, The OINTMENT called THE POCR MAN'S FRIEND,” And the PILLS called PILULÆ ANTI-SOROPHULÆ OR ALTHRATIVE PILLS These two Medicines have now stood the test of 100 years’ trial, having been introduced to the pnblic in the latter part of the last century. They may be obtained of all Chemists, or of y the Proprietors, ' BEACH & BARNICOTT, BRIDPORT, DORSET, rice 1s 14d, 28 9d, 118 and 22s each.Postage extra.g, July 8 ly eow 8 SUBSCRIBE THE HERALD.All who wish to see a fear- legs, independent ncwspaper supported should SUBSCRIBE NOW —FOR— The Montreal Herald which is truly liberal in sentiment, controlled by ne party or clique, and does not fear to maintain tue public rights, against all public enemies, regardless of consequences, Dally Horald, - = - - 56 00a Year Proportionate rates for shorter periods, Weekly Herald, - - - 81 00 a Year.— Address THE HERALD COMPANY (Limited,) Victorian Square, Montreal, &C.Dr.J.Collis Browne’s Chlorodyne.—Caution | Rew Xduertisements, Bow Mduertisements, GREAT § UCCESS! this evening, at the Queen’s Hall, Judging by the large number of tickets which have already been disposed of, it promises to be FAITeaŸ D FATHEBLAND.A Splendid Lecture by Father Conaty, of Worcester, Mass, St.Mary’s Hall was crowded last night with an enthusiastic audience to hear the Rev.Father Conaty, of Worcester, Mass., lecture on ‘ Faith and Fatherland.” The chair was occupied by Mr.Dugald Macdonald, who briefly introduced the lecturer, Among those on the platform were His Worship the Mayor, Hon.L.O, Taillon, Hon, Mr.Lynch, Mr.Geo.W.Stephens, Mr, J.Quinn, the Rev, Fathers Salmon, Lonergan and O’Doonell and a number of the representatives of the Irish Catholic societies. The rev.lecturer said that faith, a divine virtue uniting mau with God, was received by the Irish people with enthusiastic promptitude from the lips of St.Patrick and was preserved by them until our own day, despite statutes, wars and persecution of the direst kiod.Nationality is an instinct planted in the heart of man by God himself and seen in the love of men for the place of their nativity, no matter what its condition, locality or history. The Irish race-have had both in a pre-eminent degree, and as the Irishman has been true to his faith so has he been true to his nationality, And as his faith hay beeu preserved and is now triumphant, go also will his nationality be pr:served and be triumphant, To preserve their faith the Irish have ‘difficulties to meet such as no other nation mentioned in history has ever had to cncounter.Consider the Danish invasion. For 300 years these pirates of the north after having conquered at different times almost the whole of Europe, swept down upon the Isle of Saints, like the wolf on the fold, but at each invasion they were met by the Irish race with a courage which nothing could daunt, and in the year 1073, on the field of Clontarf, Brian hurled them back into the sea. There is no grander scene in history than that of the aged king, the hero of 100 battles, raising the cross before his Celtic followers and promising them the crown which he himself was so soon to wear, for all who should fall on that day in defence of faith and fatherland.Consider the Norman ware, the Tudor wars, the Cromwell massacre, the Williamite war and the long succession of petty revolts, the penal laws, the struggle against asystem which, failing to annihilate, strove to proselytise. At first it wasa war of races, later it became a war of religion ; if the first wars had been cruel for conquest and the possession of the land, the last wars for the suppression of the faith became such as the bigotry of no other country can parallel. At the end of the last century there burst forth a world of new ideas concerning the rights of man, The Declaration of Independence written at Philadelphia echoed throughout the world. The exiled sons of Ireland took iis doctrines to their hearts and transmitted to their brethren at home the principles which were to animate Grattan, Wolfe Tone, Emmett, O'Connell, the men of ’48 and our own glorious contemporary, Charles Stewart Parnell, How can we look upon the outcome as other than encouraging ?See the times gone by, eee the present; see the progress made, see what remains to be done.In our own recollection the Irish race was despised, misunderstood, the lrish cause absolutely unknown.Irish history as told by Irishmen was considered a fiction.To-day the Irish ruce can be heard in all the legislatures of the whole world.Civilized humanity has made the Irish cause its own, and English writers to-day stand aghast on reading the atrocities which the public archives of England prove to have been a system, centuries old, displayed by the ruling classes of England to the people of Ireland.God, to whom our people have been ever faithtul, must abd will reward them for their faith by making their nationality triumphant, Under the brave and prudent leadership of Parnell, under the generous support of Gladstone, victory cannot be far distant, Our fathers longed and prayed for the sight of the promised land, to us the promised land is in view ; to Parnell, to Croke, to Walsh will be given to lead ou: people iuto a nationhood where we will be free; where Irishmen will make their own laws, and where the glorious history of Ireland will be continued, not in war nor suffering, but in glory, in freedom, in happiness. At the conclusion of the lecture, His Honor Mayor Beaugrand moved a vote of thanks, and spoke in most eloquent terms of the lecture, characterizing it as one of the grandest efforts he had ever had the pleasure of hearing.— ST.GEORGES SOCIETY.The Regalar Monthly Meeting, The, regular monthly of the St George’s Scoiety was held last evening at the Home on St.Antoine street.Mr.W.D.Strond, president, occupied the chair and there were present Messrs.J.K.Ward, J.N.Redfern, Joseph Richards, J, Horstall, ©.8.Aspinwall, B.Dakers, Geo.Kemp, Jno.I.Norris, J.Mount and E.Hollis, secretary.A number of new names were entered as members of the Society. The subject of the Laferty property was brought up and discussed. This was a property left by the above mentioned person who mysteriously disappeared. On the Society claiming the property a real estate agent named Cauchon produced a number of persons who represented themselves as heirs of the missing man, among whom were two of his sisters, They, through their attorney, have commenced an action to obtain complete pos- sesfion and it was decided that the society would notify their lawyers to watch the case and look after its interests.lt was suggested that the society enould glve a concert for the benefit of the in- sütution. This wag left in the hands of a committee who would report on the matter al next meeting. The case of Mr.P.M.Ward was brought up.Mr.Wars, who was a bailiff, 1 in jail for contempt of court, for allowing some goods to slip through his hands, which he should have seized. The amount is $9, with an ad- ditipnal $50 for expenses. It wus stated that $25 had been subscribed, but the lawyer had refused to settle for this amount.Mr Richards said he thought thatsomething should be dore in the matter, as it wasa great ehame for this man to remain in prison for an indefinite period without somelhing being done to effect his.release.Other members expressed the same Opinion. This question was disposed of by the adoption ot the following resolution : That although it is not the Province of St.George’ Eociety to intervene in matters such as that of P.M, Ward, it is suggested that the president and Mr.J.K.Ward, acting informally, be requested to enquire into the matter, and if necessary exert their influence in the premises, it being the desire Of this society that justice be done to the individual concerned.À letter was read from Mr.Creak, director of the eociery,; expressing his regret at not being able to” attend the last three monthly meetings of the gociety, and asking that some one be chosen in his place.Atter some discussion, it was decided to ask him to remain in office till the close of the year, 8 very enjoyable affair. There being no further business the meeting adjourned, a PROTESTAKRT SCHOOL COMMI: SION KRS.The regular weekly meeting was held on the afternoon of the 9th instant. An act to secure the more equitable distribution of school tax, derivable from incorporated companies, firms and commercial partnerships, whose shareholders or partners are in part Protestant aod in part Roman Catholic, was adopted, and it was decided to present the bill at the next session of the Proviveial Legielatvre, Two school sites were selected, one for a West End school on Luke street, the other to replace the Mill street school, which reverts to the Government at the end of the present year. The rules governing admiesion to schools were modified, 80 as to oblige children residing in unassigned districts to attend the nesrest school in which there is room.Miss Hendrie’s resignation was accepted.Miss Brown, of Mill street, was appointed her succes-or ; and Miss Heathora was appointed to Mi'l street.Mise Callista Burnham was placed in charge of Hoche- laga echool, .sme d It was resolved to increase the time devoted to arithmetic by half an hour week ly in classes for girls, and reduce the time given to sewing by the same amount. Two pianos, one for Berthelet street school and the other for Point St.Charles, were ordered to be purchased. The Superintendent was empowered to arrange with Mr.Dawson, ot the l'ouic Solfa College, London, Eng, to give a course of lessons for the benefit of the teacaers, and to issue an edict to the effect that each teacher would, in future, be expected to take her class in vecal music.POINT 8T, CHARLES, A New Addition (0 the Graud Frunk Boating (lab.’ The Grand Trunk Boating Club which hag derived notoriety through the press this summer for the canoe claque which it has organized, has just had a valuable addition to its fast growing collection of this description of craft in the Rob Roy * Nellie,” the property of Mr.T.H.Wild- goose. This beautiful canoe is modelled after the true Eoglish type of Rob Roy and is finished iv a eu perb manner. The body of the boat is of pine wood highly .varnished with a deck of polished mahogany; its length is fourteen feet, breadth twenty-six inches, depth about nine inches. It has a mast nine feet long, carrying about forty feet of canvas, the tackle of the sail being nicely finished with small mahogany blocks ornamented with brase. On the whole the boat does not look unlike the fine English Rob Roy © Stormy Petrel,” owned by Mr.H.J.Dix, and in "poict of finish and workmanship is not inferior. It is à most ornamental and creditable addition to the club, and wil} have, no doubt, the effect of stimulating the advancing popularity ot high class boats of commanded the British Artillery team in Canada two years ago.Colonel Rayis a permanent wember of the Council of the National Artillery Association of England. In this letter an explanation is given of a remark which he made while bere regarding the representation of A and B Batteries on the Shoeburynees team, as quoted by ‘ Six by Nine,” in a letter to the Canadian Militia Gazette :— 19 Grove End Row, N.W,, 29th September, 1886.DEAR COLONEL OswaLn,—The observation attributed to me in the Canadian Militia Gazette of the 9th September by “ Six by Nice” is substantially correct. But the feeling which prompted the remark he has entirely mistaken. It was really a feeling of regret [the only approach to regret that I felt the whole time I was in Canada] that my team were not to have a friendly contest with our old friends of À and B Batteries as well as the other excellent detachments which confronted us.Grose Housa, } found regret at Shoeburyne:s amongst regulars and volunteers alike, if representatives of A and B Batteries were not found amongst the Canadian team that visits England.Yours very sincerely, A.Ray, Colonel Eng.Vol, Art.OUR CHARITIES,
