venture between the University of Sherbrooke and Bishop\u2019s University, the BU Campus was host to a special forum on entrepreneurship and creativity on Thursday.Organized by the Quebec research fund, the City of Sherbrooke and the two universities, the forum was a invitation-only event for students, professors, entrepreneurs, and researchers in the field to share ideas on how better to support new businesses and startups in the province of Quebec.\u201cI saw (this event) as an opportunity to bring the rest of the province to Bishop\u2019s and to Sherbrooke, to model our collaboration with [the University of| Sherbrooke and to signal the importance of entrepreneur-ship for Bishop\u2019s; in teaching, in mentorship and support for entrepreneurs in the region and student entrepreneurs, and in our research and innovation agenda,\u201d said Bishop\u2019s vice-principal academic Miles Turnbull.\u201cCo-hosting this event is especially timely as the Mayor of Sherbrooke promotes Entreprendre Sherbrooke and the importance of the two universities in the economic development for the city and for the townships as a whole.\u201d The objective of the forum was creates a sometimes debilitating disconnect between the world of small business and the academic research that should be supporting it.When researchers cannot get academic recognition for the work they put into entrepreneurial research and creativity, it seriously undermines the support that research should be providing to small businesses.Sherbrooke, Fredette explained, is a city that provides into the race are former Sherbrooke bureaucrat François Gingras and Sylvie Jetté, a professor of nursing at the University of Sherbrooke, long-time NDP activist and co-founder of the local riding Police located an abandoned vehicle in the ditch belonging to an individual from the Sherbrooke area.The police reached the owner by telephone but the latter refused to talk to them.The man was proposed for families of Lac-Megantic victims By Giuseppe Valiante The Canadian Press Montreal Relatives of people who died as a result of the Lac-Megantic train derailment could receive their share of a $ 77-million wrongful-death settlement as early as August, says one lawyer.Creditors and the courts still need to approve the plan before money is disbursed, U.S.attorney Robert Reach said Thursday.\u201cThe hope and the goal is that we would see money in the hands of claimants in August of this year or the latest in early September,\u201d said Reach, the court-appointed trustee in the bankruptcy filing of the rail company at the centre of the derailment.An oil-laden train owned and operated by Montreal Maine and Atlantic Railway derailed and exploded in Lac-Megantic on July 6, 2013, killing 47 people and destroying much of the downtown.A firefighter who helped pull bodies from the rubble later committed suicide and has been counted among the 48 people whose families will split the $77 million.The settlement is part of a larger sum of $300 million cobbled together from companies, including Montreal Maine and Atlantic Railway, involved in the derailment.The lawsuit was filed in Illinois because many of the firms are American and also due to the fact the state has no limits on payouts to victims.Nearly two dozen companies including oil-exploration firms, tank-car owners, Irving Oil and Montreal Maine and Atlantic Railway agreed to pay the families of victims as well as creditors such as the Quebec and Canadian governments, Lac-Megantic property owners and other people who suffered trauma.Also listed as a contributor to the $77.2 million is Edward Burlchardt, president and CEO of Rail World Inc., which owned Montreal Maine and Atlantic Railway before its assets were sold.Reach said Burlchardt has agreed to personally pay money to victims, but confidentiality agreements prohibit the sum being made public.Notably absent from the list of companies that have agreed to pay claimants are Canadian Pacific Railway and World Fuel Services Corp.Peter Flowers, the U.S.attorney representing families in the wrongful-death suit, said Thursday he intends provinces is close to contempt.The waiting game François Tanguay On April 14, the provincial premiers will be meeting in Quebec City with the Paris Climate Summit (COP 21) on their agenda.Among the discussion points will be putting a price on carbon emissions.Only two have a carbon tax so far: British Columbia and Quebec.Ontario may just announce that it, too, is taking the carbon route during the meeting.Clear signals regarding the announcement have been coming from Queen\u2019s Park in the last few weeks.This would mean that more than half of all Canadians would be in on the carbon market while Harper continues to avoid even mentioning the subject.Canada is one of the very few OECD nations that have not met the March 31 United Nations deadline for setting emissions target reductions, as was agreed in Lima, Peru last year.Environment minister Leona Aglukkaq dismissed mounting pressure earlier this week with a lame excuse: \u201cConsidering the importance of our contribution, Canada wants to have the best picture possible coming from the provinces and territories before setting out formally its goals.\u201d A fascinating comment coming from a government that has repeatedly claimed that Canada\u2019s emissions are not significant on a global scale.She goes on to state that Canada\u2019s position will be made known before the meeting begins in Paris.Don\u2019t hold your breath folks, Ottawa will just add up the provincial totals and eventually turn them in a national position.No further reduction will be announced, no vision for the future whatsoever, just a blind \"Dubya\" stare.Since it\u2019s already been made clear that the previous reduced target will not be met, let\u2019s not waste any more time this hide and seek strategy will deliver serious results.Canada will go to Paris with nothing to show, unless.the Conservatives are driven out of office just a few weeks before in mid-October.Quebec environment minister David Heurtel, who will host the April 14 meeting along with Premier Couillard, urged Ottawa to go forward this week.Ottawa, he said, must recognize the importance and the urgency to act.Heurtel says he actually contacted Ottawa twice on the subject in the last in the last months, with no answer from the Hill.Then Wednesday, putting aside his own contradictions, Premier Couillard, speaking for the 27 members of the Alliance of Federated States, urged again Ottawa to come out with solid engagements.The Federated States are subnational governments that include Bavaria, California, Quebec and 24 other such administrations.The signatories urge all national governments to take the lead and to act as sovereign states should.There was never much doubt about what little Ottawa plans to do with regards to COP 21, but playing hide and seek with the provinces is close to contempt.The fact we, as a nation, have no environmental backbone is not news, but hiding behind the provincial agendas is an all-time Harper\u2019s denial tactics.The mounting core of evidence cuts any possible escape from the international community\u2019s mounting impatience with this government.My take is simple: what are the provinces waiting for to speak aloud and clear on this unacceptable stance.After all, not even the oil and coal provinces are this deep in denial.Of course, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia have reasons to walk softly on a price for carbon, but none of them is in denial like Ottawa is.The waiting game that has become Harper\u2019s non-stance on climate is fooling no one, pushing Canada even To be human is to touch and be touched by others.Khalil Gibran tells us that the degree to which our hearts mourn what we have lost is a testimony to the depth of the joy we once knew.In the midst of our sorrows let us give thanks for the joys.) All My Puny Sorrows was an exceptional book written by Miriam Toews, shortlisted for the 2014 Sco-tiabank Giller prize.I didn't read it.The reason I mention the book is because I don't believe there are such things as puny sorrows.All sorrow is real and can have lasting impact.The loss of a loved one, the failure for our dreams to materialize, the breakup of a deep relationship, the physical pain of a chronic illness, all these sorrows have an effect on our lives.Today, Good Friday in my tradition, we tell a story of sorrow, the death of Jesus.We retell his words, \u201cMy God, My God, Why have you forsaken me?\u201d We extinguish candles and leave the church without a hopeful benediction.Our sorrow is real.Sorrow is a universal human experience.I find comfort in knowing that Jesus shared our sense of loss and lone- liness.Sorrow, however, is a station on our travel through life, it is not the destination.We experience the darkness of life and are empowered to reach out to others in our world who also feel sorrow; the homeless, the victims of bullying, the refugees, and travel with them to a new place of light and hope.We do not remain on \u201cGood Friday\u201d, but it is an important part of our journey.How does sorrow affect your lives?) Show.At times everything from sound to video capturing may be subject to last minute surprises; poor lighting, faulty cables, hardly any time for setup, etc.When we were in Sutton this past January for the recording of HuDost\u2019s concert at the Salle Alec & Gérard Pelletier performance hall (operated by Le Coeur du Village, a not-for-profit based out of Sutton), the biggest surprise of all were the artists themselves.The key people in the band are Moksha Sommer and Jemal Wade Hines.\u201cWe\u2019re the benevolent dictatorship that\u2019s the core,\u201d explains Moksha.\u201cWe have a lot of the same musicians involved and work with a lot of different people, and it will be kind of different formations at different times.So, we are the completely psychotically committed core members.\u201d HuDost (a Sufi greeting meaning \u201ctrue friend of the shared breath\u201d) plays a variety of venues from small to large outdoor festivals and prefers to expand its sound when possible by adding other musicians to the group\u2019s lineup.The fact that the Sutton showroom is small and intimate, required Moksha and Jemal to have a \u201cless is more\u201d attitude.\u201cThe evening\u2019s performance featured the two of us in our most naked, stripped down form as a duo and we were far more acoustic than usual,\u201d says Moksha.\u201cWe actually call our music neo-folk-world rock because it\u2019s such a wide array of different styles.\u201d Having listened to Trapeze, a CD they released in 2009 with an abundance of great sounding tunes, I had grown accustomed to their sound as a band and had no idea what to expect that night in Sutton.\u201cSome of our performances are as a band, where we incorporate musicians of varying sensibilities and backgrounds and often include performance art and dance,\u201d says Moksha.\u201cAs a duo our instrumentation includes vocals, harmonium (Indian Pump-Organ), Shahi Baaja (Electric Indian Auto-Harp), guitars, Bazouki, Dulcinet, percussion, and a slew of sonic ambient effects.Our music blends Pop and Rock with traditional Sufi music, Bulgarian, Croatian, Macedonian and Balkan folk music, Farsi, Turkish, Arabic, and Folk.Included in their set list were a couple of covers, but mainly the original works of Moksha and Jemal stood out.Their melodies, arrangements and vocals are outstanding.\u201cI was born in Tennessee and grew up in Florida playing punk-rock music, rock music and that kind of thing,\u201d recalls Jemal.\u201cI\u2019m an instant gratification kind of guy.A month or two after buying my first guitar.I wanted to be in a band.What better way to start?You don\u2019t have to learn anything.You can just turn up the amps, get a bunch of pedals and make noise.At some point I became a \u201cDead Head\u201d for a while.The whole psychedelic music scene brought it more into the jamming/improvising aspect of things.We like to make it different every time.\u201d \u201cI was born in the hospital at Cowansville and am a total Townshipper,\u201d says Moksha.\u201cA lot of my training was classical and Eastern European.I was with a couple of different groups that primarily focused on Eastern European music.I was also able to study in Turkey and in India.We actually met at a festival in North Carolina.It was a Rumi festival (Rumi the Persian poet) and it was a wild festival of busloads of crazy Turks.who all became our friends.Really wonderful people, and it was a whole celebration of poetry, music and dance.That was sort of the point (in our relationship), that there where the first inklings of love and creative connection.\u201d Eastern European melodic stylizations are often present in their vocal and instrumental arrangements.Even when playing a straight-up sounding country folk piece the mix of cultures is present.\u201cOur latest album \u201cHuDost & Steve Kilbey -
