impelled und jurtitied tho Rebellion shall dominate over aur whole country, moulding her Institutions nnd sping ler destiny, 1fit bn true that God has not created all men, but valy all White nen, in His own image, and made them equal in political and civil righte, thon it is à world-wide calamity that Grant did not surrender to Lee at Appomattox ; and* The Lost Cause,” trodden into mire under the hoofs of Sheridan’s rough.riding cavalry, uot only should bot will be regained in Constitutional Conventions and at the ballot-boxes.10 the Black race, because thoy are ltlack, should be excluded from the jury-box and repelled from the ballet box, then Stonewall Jackson ought to head the roll of American martyrs, emblazoned high above the names of Wurren and Mercer and Pulaski ; of Ellawarth, Lyon, Buker, Reynolds, Wadsworth, Kearney, Budglck, and McPherson 1t ia difficult to argue with 4 blind, besotted prejudice, grounded in Ignorance and fortifled by sell-conceit.Devuid of reasou, it is hardly amenable to reason. But millions who would listen unmoved to appeals bused on Justice aud Humanity can be stirred by facts which affect their own interest and safety. The naked truth that every Southern State reconatructed on the White basis ls to-day a Rebel Btate—shaped and ruled Ly mrn who excerated Lincoln’s reluctant aud tardy resistance ti the Rebellion as a causeless nnd criminal nggr sfion, and profoundly rejoiced over Bull Run ns their victory—will invincible, ff we ean but bring it home to th+ appreléSaion of every loyal voter. There is do parawount questiog of good taith or gratitude to the Blacks.Their votes ure as necessary to the pre ponderaoce of White loyalty as to to their own protection and security.Reconstruct the South on the White basis, and every one of the fifteen States waich held slaves in 1860 will beintensely, overwhelmingly Copperhead thenceforth and evermore.Allow to-day the plea that the Blacks are ignorant and degraded, and those whom you thereby clothe with power will take [4 care that the plea shall be a valid and well.grounded a century hence as it now is.Publie Education and Civil Rights for the Freedmen can only be achieved und inaintiined through the ballot.* We ¢ are for Negro Sullrage—the way they suffored in Now + Orleans,’ war the inscription on a banner borne ina late Conservative or Democratic procession in Baltimore ; and the spirit which dictaied that avowal is still rawapant in the South. But for what is stigmatised as Military Des- potiaux, it would daily avenge by outrage and infliction what it deems negro treachery to ibe Southern cause.Tur TRIBUNE has declined to be lured or turned aside from the Malo Question. It has persistently refused to swell the clamor for vengeance on the defuated Rebels, whether by execution or by confiscation ; and one of its strong rensons for this course fa a conviction that no drop of Rebel blood could be coolly, deliberately shed without esnentially clouding tbe proapect of securing the Rights of Suffrage to the Blacks.Defying tbe madness of passion and the blindness of short-sighted misconception, it Las demanded Reconstruction on Lhe basis of Universal Amnesty with fropartial Sufirage, io perfect consciousness of the fnet that it thereby alienated thousands who Lad been its zoalous supporters and life-long patrons. The hour ot its complete vindicatiou cannot be far distant. As for the mun who is to be the chosen standard-bearer of the Republican lost in the impending contest, while we avow our deliberate preference of Chief Justice Chuse as the ablest and most eminent of our living statesmen, Tug TiisoNE will reader a hearty, cheerful, determined support to General Gzant, or Senator Wade, or Speaker Colfax, should he ba nominated and supported on a platform which affirms aud upholls the equal political as well un civil rights of ul) citizens of the Republic. We do not contemplate as possible the support by Republicans of any candidute who does not stand on this platform. And we do notapprehond that tha candidates who, in our approaching straggle, shall represent genuine Democracy it opposition to the meanest phase of Aristocracy can be beaten if proper means be systematically taken, us they mpatand will be, to enlighten and arouse tho American people. We will thank such friends as believe that Due Tribune will prove ao efficient and cheap way to influence the undecided, to aid us in exiending its circulation.Though ours is eminently a political journal, but a small portion of its space is devoted to politics, swhile na outlay of more than $.00,000 per annum is incurred in collecting and transmitting news from all parts of the world. We have régular corresp ut nearly all diplomatic situatioa, Every step of Garibaldi’s recent heroic though unfortuante entor- prise, from its inception to its close, was nowed by our correspondents, who are also hia most trusted
