in May and July of 2012.However, the proposals were turned down, in part, because, Se es CONT'D FROM PAGE 2 COWANSVILLE COMMUNITY BAPTIST CHURCH “they did not conform to the new municipal regulations,” said Councillor Jean Carriére of St-Etienne-de-Bolton.Mount Foster was acquired by Fernand Barsalou of Domaine Mont Foster, in January 2007 and in May 2007, from previous owners Lawlor Wakem and Peter White.Following the land acquisitions, the council of West Bolton issued road construction permits to Barsalou for some 2.1 kilometres of new roads, which included town permits approved on April 28, 2008 and October 2, 2008.“Unless the council of West Bolton tries again to allow the building of new roads in our municipality —- despite all the decisions forbidding this - there will be no more housing developments here,” said Paul Geoffrion of Citizens for a Rural West Bolton, an advocacy group formed, in part, to oppose the housing development on Mount Foster.“Dozens of people showed up at the MRC meeting,” added Geoffrion.“Their presence and support to the arguments presented have sent a clear message to the mayors of the MRC and especially to that of West Bolton, Donald Badger: we ==ROWE Proposée sur le sentier ~——ROutes deja construites all want to live in a rural, quiet and green community.” ‘ COURTESY The original plans by the developer consisted of 35 to 40 lots in West Bolton and some 22 Mount Foster is 713 metres high and lots in the neighbouring municipality of St.-Etienne-de-Bolton where houses could eventually covers some 700 acres.be built.Pet of the week — Jules ello, hello from a happy, good- q He gentle, easy-going guy! 28, 2013 LETTERS Brome County News — Charbonneau Commission i in Knowlton DEAR EDITOR: ‘ve noticed that many people like myself who occasionally read the Brome County News and Tempo are now anxious for the latest edition to read the ongoing miniseries on town news. Our own little Charbon- neau Commission with all the drama of the real McCoy.Suddenly the town is abuzz with renewed interest in the politics of Lac Brome. The main characters being the mayor and DG followed by city councillors, and a few employees.Scandals, we have a few of those also.Because of his position, Gilles is really the main character.I have known him for a number of years, mostly through mutual friends and having " played hockey with him.I am not a close friend but a good acquaintance and thus preface my opinion by explaining my relationship. Most of us know that Gilles was a very successful businessman and president of Bouchons Mac.Through persistence and hard work he did well for himself, the company and employees and after many long years decided to call it quits and retired. It’s obvious from the start that Gilles Decelles as mayor did not want to go along with the old way of doing things. He disagreed with the system in place, and decided to make changes. He took charge as mayor and ran council like he ran his company.Unfortunately when you make changes, you sometimes step on some toes in well-worn shoes. No one likes changes, and the bigger the changes, the stronger the resistance.Depending on whose perspective you believe, his detractors find he doesn’t mind his own business, asks too many questions, and seems to be a shit-disturber.Stubborn is another of his supposed traits. This one I may be inclined to believe, but you do need a certain amount of perseverance or stubbornness to succeed.Doesn’t mean he’s always right, but you need persistence.Like the Charbonneau Commission, we read and listen, but don’t really know who is telling the inside story on Bel Canto, Mr.Bourret and many other contentious issues. Those that do, have a very strong and often biased or personal reason for their stance. We are swayed by what we hear and read, but don’t really know. The question really is whether we agree with the way Gilles Decelles is running the show. That he is too nosey, doesn’t listen and does things his own way may all be true as I am far removed from what goes on in the corridors of city hall. However, I find it hard to believe that he was able to run a very successful business, where you need to listen and ask questions, cultivate agreement and motivate staff, and suddenly stop applying those same methods as soon as he became mayor. It’s possible, I just find it unusual. However, if Gilles is really too nosey, or digs too deep to save money and find waste, then that is exactly what [ want in our mayor.Ask all the questions you want, and then some. The problem is not asking too many, but not asking enough: Hello Montreal, hello Mayor Tremblay. My worry is that the mayor is fed up with all the B.S.and lack of support and decides to go back to retire ment.I worry because there will be a power vacuum, and I don’t believe going back to the past is the solution.I believe that the direction he has set for the town is a better solution, but am aware that not everyone is in agreement. However, from what I'm able to discern, he is a very capable and efficient mayor though maybe lacking as a politician. He’s not a schmoozer.Just what we need in a mayor, I believe.I think that we have a lot of capable and concerned councillors who are also interested in making our town better and there are signs that resistance of the minority is giving way to acceptance and cooperation. The changes are working.I write this letter simply to show support to the type of administration that Gilles Decelles is trying to implement and hope that he carries on.ELIO VETTESE West Bolton council did not promote new road TO THE EDITOR: held May 21, 2013, a resident of West olton accused our municipal council of “pushing for new roads in the municipality.” Let me clarify some facts.À request made by Domaine Mont Foster to put in a road connecting Summit and Paramount roads is in direct contravention of the MRC’s RCI 04-0912.West Bolton council did not promote this proposed road and we were surprised to find ourselves accused of doing so.The developer applied directly to the MRC to amend the above-mentioned RCI.A tthe regional council of mayors (MRC) On May 14, 2013, the MRC’ s land use planning committee, of which I am a member, recommended that the council of mayors refuse the developer’s request.A week later, the mayors of the MRC confirmed this in a unanimous vote, as witnessed by a number of concerned West Bolton citizens. The citizens of West Bolton deserve clear and verifiable information about events and issues that affect all of us, not misinformation supplied by particular interest groups. As a reflection of council’s commitment to keep citizens informed, we invite you to Visit our new website at www.municipalit- your food Try incorporating a variety of colours and shapes into your next meal. For example, use cookie cutters to turn your kids’ vegetables into fun shapes, or try making faces and pictures using the vegetables on their plate.Presenting vegetables in a more appealing way may encourage your child to enjoy them.BROME COUNTY NEWS TUESDAY, MAY 28, 2013 « PAGE 5 Have you tried our Upon
