And how lonely and sad must have been the lot of the little group of mourners, who wept and perhaps wailed over that lone grave. Then the graves slowly increased In number as the years passed on to 1724-33-40 and 47.About the former date there was a massacre of children and perhaps others by the Mohawk Indians near by, whe are supposed to be buried there, as a plaiu old he oard testifies.Indian raids in those primitive times were, no doubl, of frequent occurrence.Near thls spot stands 8 much decayed board sucred Lo the memory of GENERAL THOMAS, of the American army, who, in 1775-6, fought against loyal troops.an American lady, lately made a pilgrimage to his supposed grave and gazod upon it with melancholy interest, perhaps deriving pleasure trom the thought that she was a descend- ani of a soldier who died on the field or battle, although in an unjust cause. The names of some others buried here have been rescued from oblivion by being painted on boards and nailed to the fence which some time has been xed up.I have said in former notes it is near the Old Fort\u2019 and 1s full of the forgotten deud, Who are covered with rank grass and weeds.S.Massey.re Eprry\u2019s
