and both Mr.Nesbitt and Mr.Ritchie confessed that they cared more for the contest of intellect than the difference between the two companies.And this difference, though it was made to cover columns of legal verbiage, paid for at so much a word, was the simple one of misunderstanding as to the interpretation of a contract, > aie EY Te Eel ave se E.M.McDonald, M.P., one of the counsel for the Coal elsewhere, The coal people then said that that broke the contract, which they then cancelled.Whereupon, threats on both sides.Subsequent conferences\u2014nay, even luncheons, which are so efficacious in the healing of acerbities.The appointment of intermediaries, Eminent plenipotentiaries engaged on both sides.Men of tremendous weight from Toronto and elsewhere, bringing the parties together.Lord Strathcona appealed to.All in vain.Man is a choleric creature, In the meantime, the shareholders are asking for their dividends.and the great steel industry, in which millions Judge Longley at the foot of the Court House steps.The steel people said the coal people had engaged to supply them with a certain grade of coal for certain purposes.The coal people retorted that there was nothing in the agreement to show that such was the intention.The steel] people insisted upon a particular seam and quality for certain purposes.The coal company said they would go on giving the run of the mine.The steel people said they could not make coke out of the particular kind of coal they were receiving, and that they would be forced to get supplies elsewhere if there was not an improvement in the delivery.The coal people, a little haughtily, pointed to the contract.The steel people bought coal Companies.John 8.McLennan, ex-secretary of the Steel and Coal are invested, and which the Federal Government has subsidized at the rate of $7 per ton, suffers an enormous dislocation, Coal directors resign.Mr.James Ross compresses his lips and says nothing.He will hold on.He is right, and will abate nothing of contention or right.More pourparlers, more dainty Junch- eons, calculated to produce mollifying effects.Still all in vain.Whereupon Judge Longley appears upon the scene;
