the revival under the Normans and the troubles which again came with the Revolution and the days of the Stuarts, when I read of its ultra-fashionable days, and then turn to the beautiful and substantial city of to-day, I feel there is some deep meaning in it all, that the development of character and the growth of freedom has resulted from the conditions of life which have obtained in the centuries which have (Continued on page 4.) phins, with an inscribed shield in the centre.The front of the cylindrical portion is ornamented with two beautifully engraved views of Bath\u2014one of the Pump Room in the 18th century, representing old Bath, and the other the central part of the Guildhall, representing Bath at the present time.The whole is surmounted with the Arms of the City in enamel, around which is an appropriate wreath of laurels.The figure stands upon a plinth, together with which it is 18 inches in height.NECESSITY FOR BETTER CANADIAN ROADS\u2014A rough road for autos.The above picture shows a portion of the main road on lle Perrot, and its extremely rocky condition.It is a menace to autos, and cannot be avoided, owing to the fact that it is part of the public highway connecting Montreal and Toronto.RIDLEY COLLEGE, ST.CATHARINES, ONT, Distinctively residential school.Three separate residences under the care of mar- riled masters: (1) Lower School for boys under fourteen;
