Sawyerville, Sawyerville, yesterday, mated to weigh about 1,000 pounds.-It seems that the moose had een hanging around the village for a week past, and Sunday morning he was chased down to the mill fired.He was followed up, and after tracing him three miles was found dead.He is a splendid specimen with fine head.He had evidently strayed far from his usual haunts, for it is very rarely that a moose is seen in | this section of the country.Practically the whole village moose hunt, many joined in the chase.BURGLARY AT LUMBER OFFICE.Safe Belon ging to Fletcher & Boss Forced Open.was and VALUABLE BOOKS KS AND PAPERS TAKEN pu SH WAS LEFT.The office of F en & Ross, Liverpool street, was entered by burglars during Saturday night.The safé occupied the chief atts of the burglars, and when they Ï had finished their work it was a wreck.The door was wrenched off and the band which holds the combination bars and the strip along one side of the.door were broken off.No explosives were used.Appearances indicate that hammer and chisel may have heen the instruments first When an opening large enough to admit a bar was made, the | door was probably pried off by this means.The, burglars may have spent some hours at the place for they could have pursued their work with little fear of detection, The noise of the dam would denen any ntion They removed the books belonging to the firm, and a cheque belonging to one.of the members of the firm,; as well as the cheques that had been returned from the bank.There was about four dollars in money lying in one of the drawers of the safe, | Port Arthur, bearing despatches from Lieut.-Gen.Stoessel, the commander-in-chief of the forces of the stronghold, to General Kuropatkin, the temper of the belligerents at Port Arthur has reached an abuolutely merciless stage.Prince Radzivil declares that the men of both armies are absolutely venomous in their.antagonism.Lieut.-Gen.Stoessel has addressed his garrison, saying that if the Japanese soldiers entered the fortress it undoubtedly will be impossible for their officers to control them and prevent a massacre.For this reason Gen.Dosage] is making no objections to civilidns leaving Port Arthur.In consequence of the fact that flags of truce are - ignored, numbers of Japanese troops who have been lving on the slopes of the hills of the northeast defences: for weeks \u2018past are still
