Dec.21 by 2.working representatives of the whole winter storms suddenly descend on the Valley on Saturday.Co-sponsored by the local Minor Hockey Association and the Huntingdon Optimist Club, the Skate-a-thon hopes to raise $12,000 towards this season's operating costs, and during the last week or so, the young players, other youngsters, and adult skaters have been canvassing for sponsors.The latter support the Skate-a- thon either by a flat-rate donation or by offering skaters a given amount per lap completed.The goal for this year is the same as that of the 1979 edition of the Skate-a-thon, and it is vital that it be met, if local children are to continue to have the chance to get a significant amount of ice time at a reasonable fee, compared to other Minor Hockey Associations.All the trimmings will once again be included on Saturday, with refresh- \u2018 ments, prizes, and drawings for special treats on tap for each age group.There are 284 youngstters, boys also provides for the eventual drawing up of supplementary agreements on milk classifications; initial payments and prices; and setting up of deadlines for resolving these issues.The agreement recognizes the necessity of involving a third party, the council of the dairy industry (formed of private firms handling milk or milk products) in the eventual changes to rules and setting up new agreements.Main points of the agreement can be summarized as follows: 1.The setting up of a single union organization to administer an overall joint plan, and in the meantime, a temporary \u2018\u2018Producers\u2019 office\u201d in charge of administering the various plans; to co-ordinate the union and co-operative groups 3.A method of gradual integration of industrial milk producers into the fresh milk market, taking into consideration acquired rights and causing as little upset as possible to transportation systems and processing plants.4.The setting up of two milk pools, with present Class III and IV production falling into the new Pool II, while Pool I Will comprise Class I and II receipts and will be distributed to holders of Class I quota only.5.The operation of a compensation board for paying producers, arising from a special demand for the co-operatives to issue cheques to their suppliers etc.6.The co-operatives accept the obligation to deliver milk from their admissible Class 1 shareholders to other plants for Class I and II use.See DAIRY page 2 Pay raise in offing Main issue at a relatively quiet Monday night meeting of the Huntingdon Town Council was a proposed salary raise for the Mayor and Aldermen, the first such increase since 1973.By-law 383, introduced at the meeting, would see the mayor's annual salary increase by about 35 per cent, from $1,700 to $2,400 annually, while the aldermen\u2019s wage would be doubled from the present $600 to $1,200.Property-owners will have a Federal election chance to make known their opinions on the by-law on Tuesday Jan.15, when the Town Hall will register any protests between 9a.m.and 7 pm.If enough dissidents show up, a referendum on the question will be held.Laniel to run again: only candidat single person, or a married person whose spouse is not a pensioner and is not receiving a Spouse's Allowance, will increase to $149.76 from its current $146.97.Added to the basic pension, this gives a Monday morning from a snare trap in the bush near the new Rte.138 outside Ormstown was border collie Toby, who belongs to the Peter Finlayson family.Peter tells us that he heard the dog yelping as he drove his tractor through his back bush lot and found Toby with the snare already tight around his neck.INVESTIGATING FURTHER - after releasing Toby, Peter found three snares within a small area, baited with a dead raccoon and surrounded by a system of cedar branches to lead animals into the traps.THE GAME WARDEN - in Valleyfield told Finlayson that such snares are legal for foxes or coyotes [not for rabbits] but that trappers must secure verbal permission from landowners before setting them up.The warden said he had had another similar report from the Hemmingford area on Sunday.FARMERS - and their pets have little recourse against such illegal traps.All they can do is catch the trappers in the act of trespassing and call in Provincial Police with their complaint.Property-owners are, championship which saw two CVR teams facing each other in the finals.Eventually, Jimmy Stewart and his team of Scott Tennant, Brian LeVogue and Blake Stoughton overcame opposing skip Martin Tennant to in general.This grassroots approach involves a great deal of organization and effort.In the Huntingdon area, the responsibility has been assumed by local hairdresser, Claude Rémillard.The first task facing Remillard is to find at least 30 volunteers to lead small home meetings.Interested persons will be trained as animators and given practice sessions before they present the federalist viewpoint and lead the discussions.The meetings, says Remillard, will focus on strengthening federalist sympathizers rather than convincing séparatists to vote no.Remillard is shooting for two kitchen meetings per polling station.With 133 polling stations and April 30 as a projected date of completion, Remillard and his group of animators have their work cut out for them.Anyone interested in helping is
