fair restores life to Leslie Rennie’s Place by Phil Norton Anyone out for a country drive last weekend along the first concession would have found it as peaceful and untraveled as ever- unti} they arrived at the Rennie’s Side Road in Hinchinbrooke. There, at the late Leslie Rennie’s farm, the usually idle pastures had been transformed into a virtual fair.Antique farm machinery, including tractors, windmills, belt- driven threshers, and rare engines of every make, sputtered, chugged, choked and backfired to the delight of hundreds of visitors.LJ No one expected such an extensive exhibition, one which now promises to join the ranks of the Valley:s three, annual agricultural fairs. This second, annual Antique show by The Chateauguay Valley Antique Association (CVAA) drew hobbyists from all over the Northeast. And it brought together a certain segment of the Chateauguay Valley population - as one onlooker commented, “deep rooted people who have a liking for traditional ways and memories of a time when 12 men got together to harvest and eat a good meal.” The hands-on display of old tractors, cars, crank- ' powered tools, and an- River users tiques triggered memories and stories by the seniors at the show. The exhibitors were happy to show off their collections and restored machines and to hear the sounds of forgotten engines brought back to life.CVAA member Don Lang, who had various engines and an original four-wheel drive DMassey-Harris tractor on display.says the show is a non-money making project.Doug Lang added that this show is the main objective of the Hundreds by Diane Farquhar The peaceful shady greens at the former Leslie Rennie Museum, now owned by Winston Rennie on the firsi concession at Brooklet, were jumping with activities on August 22- 23.The Chateauguay Valley Antique Association held its 2nd Annual Antique Show. The group, with close to 80 members, did a tremendous job of advertising and planning this wonderful event. The buildings at the Rennie Property were put to good use.The old log cabin, which was possibly built in 1803 by a German immigrant Jacob Mitchen, was set up with a bed, a dinner table and a spinning wheel. The old Cook’s Store held many interesting items, antique toy tractors, period dress, and family heirlooms.Several scrap books made of pictures and Gleaner clippings.turn out at Brooklet which were thoughtfully done by the late Rosalie Barwich of Athelstan, were being admired by many. They were contributed by Norma Graham of Huntingdon. Two items which were most interesting were an inside view of the Huntingdon Theatre in the early 1940s and a photo of the Athelstan Creamery in 1921.On Sunday, the crisp sunny weather brought a large crowd to the old Blacks pioneer church for worship. Before Rev.Neil Wallace began the service, Tamera Stevenson played some appropriate music on the organ. The Association cooks were ready at sun up to serve the more than 130 hearty breakfasts of eggs and bacon to the Sunday visitors. There were 75 exhibitors taking part in this show.A great crowd pleaser was Murray Wallace's McCormack thrashing machine in action.Young Matthew Wallace and Norman Jamieson fed the machine while Jim and Maither and Glenn Wallace filled the bags with grain.Bob Bishman from Parish N.Y.had his Lane Shingle Machine operating which was very unique indeed.Along with the an tiques, many booths were set up.Flea market items were available, local farmers were selling seed corn, fencing equipment and a multitude of products. Some of the prize winners at the local fairs had home-made pies.handicrafts, and folk art for sale. The Quebec 1852 Tops Chapter from Hun- tingdon was on hand to give out local recipes and information on dieting. The Rockburn Cultural Centre and Library were pleased to report a successful day also.See Pages The Chateauguay River is a popular route for local canoeists like Francois Barrette of Ormstown. It has also been the subject of much debate over the state of its pollution.See page 4.organization.“Its also a real tribute to Leslie Rennie,” he says.Although all of the antiques Mr.Rennie had accumulated were auctioned off last year following his death, the buildings were all put to use for the antique exhibit. The log cabin displayed woven blankets, Cook’s store had various antiques, and crafts were on exhibit in the old church and on the porch of the house.Various organizations such as TOPS.the Chateauguay Valley Historical Society.the Rockburn Library, and the new Powerscourt Historical Centre had booths in the yard.Judy Maither who organized the craft exhibits was unable to attend the show as she gave birth to a daughter the night before it opened.Jim Maither, the Association president is credited with starting the ball rolling for this who when he called a meeting of antique farm machinery enthusiasts in May 1986.For collectors like Merilyn and Lorne Ross of Apple Hill Ontario, the Rockburn show is now on their long list of annual stops which this year included Canton, New York and the Ontario towns of Picton, Athens, Finch, Merrickville and Williamstown.COVERING office floor of agronome Marcel Gratton this week. They give an autumn aroma to the Huntingdon Agriculture office.Mr.Gratton has just wrapped up three weeks of leaf sampling throughout the district and is now anxious to send the samples off to the Rock Forest, Quebec laboratory for analysis. The leaves come from maple sugar-bushes that are experiencing dieback.By analyzing the chemical - make-up of the leaves, the agronome can determine which nutrients are lacking and will be able to recommend fertilizers for the trees.“We're looking for deficiencies in the maples just as we do for apple trees,” explains Gratton.“We take leaves which are exposed to full sunlight from the mid to upper crown branches Roadside Rests up for adoption Dotting the Chateauguay Valley countryside are several Roadside Rests which, not long ago, were the prized possessions of Quebec's Ministry of Transport. Now they've been put up for adoption and their futures depend on the individual organizations which have taken charge. The luckiest Roadside Rest is the one along Route 132 in the Municipality of St.Anicet.With the help of the Chamber of Commerce and the Municipality, it has become a picnic park with a tourist information booth. Not only can passing motorists enjoy it for a break from travel, but local folks will be able to gather there in a country setting.Dundee also has a “Halte’ along Route 132 close to the American border. In contrast to the St.Anicet Rest Area, this one has become a vacant field since the Municipality refused the Ministry's offer to take it over.Weeds have pushed up through the pavement and the entrances are barricaded.Obviously some municipalities don't regard the Government's offer in Photo: Phil Norton Cows use the river as a source of water but they also erode the shorelines which contributes to sedimentation pollution.the same light us others. It may be suspected that the Ministry simply wished to hand over its financial obligations of upkeep to the municipalities.Another Roadside Rest exists beside the Trout River in Godmanchester. It is situated just a mile west of Huntingdon on Route 138.When the Township of Godmanchester refused to take it over from the Ministry of Transports, the Town of Huntingdon showed an interest in it.The issue has come up at the Council table and the Town has been corresponding with the MRC says After the Regional Land Management Plan was adopted last April by the MRC du Haut St.Laurent council of mayors.the Provincial Ministry of Municipal Affairs returned it asking for modifications on specific points The MRC adopted some of the modifications on August 18 but in its reply to the Ministry the MRC states that it does not wish to alter the Plan on the points concerning agricultural land use and normes for river shoreline properties. At the mayor's August 12 meeting in Huntingdon, the letter from Minister Andre Bourbeau was read outlining the requested modifications.Jean Tetreault of the firm Aménatech.which is responsible for the Ministry Meanwbile.a local social club has offered to take care of the maintenance in order that it may hold family activities at this site.An official decision is yet to come from the Quebec Transports Ministry.George Irving, President of the Huntingdon Lions Club says his organization has been maintaining the MRC's Plan.answered questions at the meeting. The first modification recommended by the Ministry concerns sylvicultursl practices in the region. In its Land Management Plan.the MRC does not consider forestry as an authorized use of rural, village and conservation territories. The Ministry however, wishes to permit partial harvests as well as cleanup cuts for maintenance and esthetics. The MRC agreed to this change The second modification is in the chapter on limited use of land zoned agricultural. The MRC's Plan stipulates that permanent agricultural zones may be used by agricultural industries which do not pollute. This would exclude the raising Gathering leaves from the middle of an 80-foot tree is’ no simple task. That's why the Huntingdon bureau purchased a $500 clipper with a 50 foot extension pole.Marcel Gratton says the farmers have helped him use it.Some growers elsewhere have used guns to shoot down the out-of- reach leaves.August is the only month suitable for gathering the leaf samples as the year's growth is finished and the leaves have not yet begun to color Trees from which this year's samples were taken have been painted so the same trees may be rechecked next year. The Ministry of Agriculture service 1s free to genuine maple syrup producers.Mr.Gratton says his district bureau is able to provide the service because of many official complaints of dying sugar maples.Neighbouring regional offices such as at Ste.Martine and St.Jean do not have such a service yet Raymond Lalonde of Ormstown.André Bour- deau of St.Chrysostome.and Gaspar Parent of SL Urbain made the original complaints last year They said their trees were in serious decline and they requested technical aid.Gratton took soil samples in their bushes last spring. He also went to see Macdonald College Researchers Arch Jones and Willy Hendershot who have become experts in the forest fertilization field.Dr.Hendershot addressed Chateauguay Valley producers at a special meeting last June at Allan's Corners. The next meeting will be in October when the laboratory results of the leaf analyses are returned.Willy Hendershot will then study the analysis results and prepare fertilization recommendations as he has been doing for the past few years in the Eastern Townships and Beauce Region.Gratton says that fertilization has restored health to dying maples but the long term effects have yet to be seen.He notes that simple solutions such as liming the sugar-bush are not adequate and can even do more harm than good.A foliar analysis is necessary before any fertilization is done.Hendershot has found that most of his recommendations require ad- See MAPLES Page 3 use modifications of pigs, chickens and mink. The Ministry's request on this point was for the MRC to await further studies on this management aspect hefore making such a general inclusion in the Plan The MRC has refused this request. The MRC agreed to modify the point concerning flood zones according to the Ministry's request.Construction would be prohibited within the 0 to 20 year flood zone except for construction related to agriculture. The MRC refused to modify the section on the rivershore environment. The Ministry's letter notes that the Government wishes to protect river and lake shores. The suggested modifications by the Ministry include: * In agricultural areas, 3 metres must be preserved along the river where it is prohibited to make the soil bare: « In private woodlands, a protective band must be established along water courses where trees would be left to maintain a 10 metre height, Partial cuts would be allowed up to 50 per ceri of the trunks of overi0-centimetre diameter.e In the urban environment, a protective band of 10 to 15 metres, depending on slope, would be created where all work would be restricted. Finally, concerning wildlife habitats, the MRC agreed to clearly identify on its Land Management Plan the winter yard of whitetail deer in Havelock and Franklin along Covey Hill.Negotiations between the MRC and the Ministers involved will continue. 2— THE GLEANER — AUGUST 26 1987 This and That in Town SPECIAL GUEST - in St.Anicet during available. While the farmer can now get his maple leaf analysis for free, thanks to the Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, the homeowner must pay for the same service offered by private labs, “Many local residents have remarked about the premature coloring of backyard and roadside trees which is evidence that the trees are stressed. The price of a soil and leaf analysis, and fertilization, is well worth the value added to the property by ornamental and shade trees. If you have $40 to $125 to spend on leaf analysis and fertilizer recommendations, now it is the time to do it before true FIRE PUMP Trails of the fire-pump put into the grist mill were made on Friday, and were highly satisfactory, 2 one-inch streams being thrown far above it.Had the pump been there last year, the disastrous fire that took place would not have been possible. The pump is made by Fales & Jenks of New Jersey, and is on the rotary principle, throwing 400 gallons per minute, under a pressure of from 125 to 150 Ibs.The cost was $700.DRAIN PIPES INSTALLED Drain pipes to replace the open ditch on Bouchette street are now delivered and are of 14 inch bore and weigh 50 lbs.to the foot. The undertaking is one of the most expensive the village has gone into for some time, but is necessary for the safety of the travelling public and the health of the residents on the street.START OF ACADEMY As early as 1834, the settlers, mindful of their own youthful privileges in their native land, began to agitate the question of securing for their children better educational advantages than the common schools afforded. In the same year the Legislature of Lower Canada granted one thousand dollars ($1000) to aid in building an academy in Huntingdon on condition that it be a stone building 40x 60 feet, two story high, and cost at least two thousand dollars ($2000).Such were the straitened circumstances of the early inhabitants, that thought various methods were tried to accomplish the desired object and secure the government grant, all proved ineffectual until 1850 when, at the earnest solicitations of some of the friends of the project, the promise of the grant was renewed; and a general meeting of all interested in the scheme was called for the purpose of concerting measures for the speedy erection of an academy. At the meeting R.B.Somerville presided and Dr.Sherriff was appointed secretary. On Friday the 27th December, 1850, the building committee was appointed. The committee raised eleven hundred and seventy six dollars ($1176) by subscription, received nine hundred and forty-five dollars ($945) from the Huntingdon Ladies’ Association, and two thousand dollars ($2000) from the government. The building committee being thus encouraged pushed forward the work of construction with all possible speed, so that by the fall of 1852, “The Huntingdon Academy'' was an accomplished fact at a cost of something over four thousand dollars ($4000).20 years ago {From the Huntingdon Gleaner of Wednesday, Aug.25, 1937) LESSON OF PEACE More than 150 years ago the Rush- Bagot treaty was signed providing that the internationalline between the United States and Canada should forever be unfortified. This boundary is the only one of its kind in the world and has stood as an example to all other nations.Much has been said and written about this unfortified boundary line, but until recently this boundary has been an imaginary line, except for a few post marking its location. The Riwanis organization conceived the scheme of placing bronze tablets at various points along the border, and a year ago the Washington, D.C.and Ottawa, Ont.clubs placed such a tablet on the Rooseveltown-Cornwall bridge.Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock another tablet was dedicated and unveiled at Trout River, sponsored jointly by the Malone and Montreal Kiwanis Clubs.ROADWORK UNDERWAY Provincial road work is progressing as quickly as possible and the government schedule for this section will soon be completed. All but 8 miles of the Hemmingford- Huntingdon road is finished and work is still being done on this part.Presently it is being widened from Franklin, a distance of five miles to Watts corner and 3 miles from Havelock to the Fort road. The road from Aubrey to Howick is also being repaired with a cover of crushed rock and oil.On route 4 oil has been applied from Huntingdon past Frank Monique's.Henderson street in the town of Huntingdon has also been given a covering of oil.Dr.Lefebvre dies Dentist Leo Lefebvre, 87 died recently in Canton, Illinois, following a lenghty letter to the Editor with great interest. He is troubled about our complicity in the deterioration of our river and rightly so.Each time we flush our toilets, we contribute to the pollution of the Chateauguay. With much anticipation, I awaited your article as promised in a footnote to Mr.Weisser’'s letter.I expected a timely response, a prophetic word, a note of warning to the valley, perhaps even an indictment of those responsible. What a letdown! This is no time to be optimistic and cheerful.Don’t tell us how good the fishing is or how much fish we dare eat. This is a sick and dying river and the warning bells must be sounded. We don’t need vague and hopeful words but facts and figures concerning the extent of the damage to our precious river. We need to know that someone cares more about ecology than economy — that a stinking weed-filled sewer is no legacy to pass on to our children. We need to know that this message is being communicated to this community in a way that will bring urgent concern and immediate action rather than complacency. We need to know who to see and what precisely to say so that this problem is addressed and corrected before it's too late. You did, however, mention several important facts which bear repeating. All the municipalities on the Chateauguay pump their sewage directly into the river, and as these communities grow so does the effluent.Secondly, you summed up by stating; “Only we .can make the difference.” We have turned the river putrid green and we must turn it back. The real question is, how do we do it?1 believe that there are enough concerned people in this valley to make that difference. If we work tcgether we can create an awareness both in the provincial government and at the municipal level that this is a priority item.If we work together, we can get the necessary facts and figures about how and where the damage is occurring and how it can be corrected, and then apply pressure in the prover areas so that remedial action is taken. To that end, I am enclosing my phone number. If you care enough to want to see the Chateauguay in the pristine condition that it was 20 years ago, call me up and leave your name and phone number.Together we can make a difference.Robert Graham (514) 825-2384 Equine right of the road After reeading the Shangri la column in last weeks Gleaner which pertained to the issue of whether horses should be permitted on the roads, I am beginning to wonder whether justice is taking on a new form - ‘that of punishing the victim!'’ It seems to be the belief that roads are dangerous, therefore to protect the horse we should banish them from this dangerous environment. Is there a reason why we shouldn't be trying to make the roads safer rather than simply avoiding the problem by eliminating those who are endangered?Speed limits have increased since the day of the horse and buggy but does this mean that prudence and common courtesy must vanish. Are we to believe that because motor vehicles travel at a faster spewl.their drivers are no longer expected to respect the rights of others who travel these same roads such as pedestrians, cyclists or horseback riders?A point also made in the Shangri la column was that some irresponsible riders had been seen using the road.1 think it should be noted that regardless of what group of people we are considering - cyclists, motorists or horseback riders; there are always a few irresponsible ones, however everyone should not be punished on the basis of the actions of a few. Some motorists lose their rights to the use of our public roads because of their personal actions.however cars in general are not banished! Why should all horses be banished on account of a few irresponsible riders?A myth seems to exist concerning the idea of a horse on a road. Some people believe that a horse is much like that of a bomb ready to explode and a motor vehicle is the catalyst needed to ignite this bomb.Speaking from 15 years of road travel with horses both young and old 1 have yet to find one that will attempt to attack a passing vehicle that is showing a bit of courtesy. Most horses and riders realize that a confrontation with a motor vehicle would leave them the worse for wear, therefore they are more than willing to respect motorists and only ask that the motorist return the favor.Accidents between horses and motor vehicles have occured but more often than not they are caused by an irresponsible driver attempting to intimidate or disregard the rights of the horse. When faced with an intimidating situation a horse may have a negative and dangerous reaction, but is this not true of most animals or humans? The issue at the moment seems to be the right of the horse to use the road, but if we are to believe that speed prevails, then how long before the pedestrians and cyclists rights of the road will also be extinct?JoAnn Duke Huntingdon Franklin taxpayers angry Lately we have seen councillors do as they wish.not as the taxpayers want.Once again Franklin Municipality is a center of controversy. After having won a court injunction regarding our town hail we are faced with the same problem.Regardless of the opinions of a majority: of residents, councillors Marcil, Barré and Lemieux have sided with Mayor Bourdeau in possibly expropriating more land and adding on a special tax to pay for a new Off to Africa Dear friends I'm leaving this letter care of The Gleaner because I love being the last to say Goodbye. When The Gleaner prints this, I'll be trying to hail a taxi with my husband.4 kids.2 dogs and pieces of luggage.- When you think of me eat a Mac apple, and then another - send me a red maple leaf to show my Cameroon friends: send me Gleaner clippings: send me the first Pussy Willow next Spring: keep in touch hall.Do you feel that this is an unjust tax for an unnecessary project? If so, what can we, the ratepayers do”?If you think you can help with information and feel we as a community can stop this, please let us know.Working together we will be heard.Alan Howie Pat Jackson Diane Hayvren Mark Hayvren with Jean-Guy Hudon (M.P.; your opinion does count; Help the International youth for Peace and Justice Tour; helping kids always pays off: enjoy fiddleheads.for me; and don't forget to write’ 1 miss you already Peace & Love! .Patty McGill c ol.SM.Pp.Quartier Bastos (Nylon) C.P.12x0 Yaoundé, Cameroon Africa Births and Deaths Cards of Thanks, In Memoriams, Marriage Notices, Engagements, Announcements CLARKE Robert and Nicole (née Brisebois), proudly announce the birth of their son, Maxime Robert, bom July 2ist, 1987, weighing 9 lbs.6-1/4 oz.Brother for Tanya.Proud grandparents are Mr.and Mrs.Robert Clarke, Sr.from Power- scourt.GREIG - David and Mary (née Graham) are delighted to announce the birth of their second child, Kelly Ann, 6 lbs.13 0z.on Aug.16, 1987, at the Barrie Memorial Hospital.Proud grandparents are Mr.and Mrs.Alton Graham, Mr.and Mrs.Huntley Greig and great grandmother Mrs.Margaret Graham. Many thanks to Dr.Vandor and the excellent nursing staff at the Barrie.MARRIED NICHOLSON - SUTHERLAND - In Edmonton, Alta., August 15, 1987 Laurel Anne, elder daughter of Carol and Donald Nicholson of Vancouver (formerly of Ormstown) and Malcolm Ross Sutherland, youngest son of Evelyn and the late Walter Sutherland, Hun- tingdon.PILON - KAY - Bert and Geraldine Pilon are happy to announce the marriage of their daughter Barbara to Dr.Joseph Kay, son of Mr.and Mrs.Marcel Kay of Dollard des Ormeaux, Que.The marriage took place on August 10, 1987 in Banff.Alberta.The couple reside in Thomhill, Ontario.FORRESTER, Anne Lillian (née Wilson) - On August 20th, 1987, at the Elizabeths Bruyère Health Centre, Ottawa, age 89, wife of the late Robert Earle Forrester.Survived by her daughter, Betty and son-in-law Donald J.Davison, as well as her grandchildren, Jennifer- Anne and Peter.Funeral service was held on Sunday.August 23rd.from St- Paul United Church Orm- stown, at 2 p.m.Interment Union Cemetery.Arrangements entrusted to McGertigle Funeral Home, Ormstown.GRADUATION Glenn Hoskin, son of Mr.and Mrs.Allan Hoskin of Farnham, graduated June 10, 1987 trom McGill University.Glenn received his B.Eng.Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Honours Program). He is now employed by C.AE.Electronics, Ltd, in Montreal.KELLY Funeral Home Reg'd GORDON McINTYRE Proprietor FUNERAL DIRECTOR PHONE 264-5447 HUNTINGDON, QUE.MONTPETIT Funeral Home FODRIQUE MONTPETIT.Proprietor FUNERAL DIRECTOR MODERN PARLORS Cremation PRE ARRANGEMENTS | 170 Chateauguay St HUNTINGDON ; TEL, 264-5331 | ! of the Daughters of the American Revolution is holding its tenth annual tour of old homes.Buses will leave the DAR home, 37 Morton St, Malone, N.Y at 9 Saturday, mornin, August 2.The 1987 tour includes a return visit to the home of Bruce and Arleen Bonesteel, which is 150 years old this ‘year. An imposing example of federal architecture, this stone house has been carefully restored by its owners who have done much of the work themselves.Visitors will find the structure now has a completely renovated summer kitchen area. The dwelling's two fire places which were rebuilt by the Bonesteels are amoung its outstanding features. There is a massive stone fireplace in the living room. The mantel and uprights of the brick kitchen fireplace are beams from an old wooden bridge downstate while the stone above the fireplace opening comes from a window ledge in a old railroad station.Next on the tour is the home of Edna Grant in North Bangor, which is an unusual example of Greek Revival architecture. The front of the house is much narrower than is cus tomary A Victorian style porch adds a welcoming look to the residence.Mrs Grant's parents, Frank and Susie Monica lived in this house first.Later Mrs Grant and her husband, Edmund, made extensive improvements. In the attractive rooms are treasured Victorian furnishings, such as lovely lamps, clocks, furniture, glassware and dishes. From here the bus will proceed to the farm home of Otto and Lois Childs, who are the fourth generation to occupy the dwelling.Socrates and Fannie Childs took ownership of the original part of the Greek Revival house in 1856.A summer Kitchen and woodshed were built on later as was a Victorian style porch. It has pillars with graceful decorations at the roofline, something similar to those on the porch of the Grant home “There is a very early type of pump in the front yard. Many years after the building of the house a large addition was added on the east Mr.Childs has many articals of furniture and artifacts which belonged to his family.and he has collected many more.Among these are a number of working gramophones, one with a lovely ‘morning glory” horn.A 1917 Dodge will be on view for the tour. When lunchtime comes, the bus will visit the Victorian Spirit Inn in Bombay where a meal will be served and a tour enjoyed.Originally the home of William C.Shields.co- founder of the Bombay Slipper Factory.it was once the Country Manor Its present owners, Carole and William Grossarth, have opened the home.which they have restored, for dining and "Bed and Breakfast’ lodging. The house dates from the turn of the century. It has a fashionable carriage porch entrance, which was not a common feature of homes of the area.Inside the gracious rooms of the original home are now pleasant dining areas, and upstairs there are five bedrooms and a honey moon suite decorated with old-fashioned furnishings of the Victorian Era.A brick home of Victorian, Italinate style in Bangor will also be viewed.Built by Charles Adams, grandfather of Mrs.Margaret Jones, sometime prior to 1860.Now owned by Warren the impbsing residence.A large kitchen was modernized a few years ago without spoiling fine, old features such as cupboards and a pantry. One of the homes distinctive features is the width of the well preserved moldings around all doors and windows. The layout of the house and its winding stairway, which has a niche for statuary are similar to many such Italianate residences in nearby Malone. This is also true upstairs where there is a large master bedroom and many other rooms, those at the back no doubt being intended for any servants. In addition to the tour of each house, a guide on each bus will give a running % commentary on points of interest en route, making % æ& a This bicycle built for 10 was alse in the Bicycle Parade at the Old Home Week. These young men were out to have a good time with the pre schoolers and elementary children and so they did.} the traveling from point to point a trip into the past.Cost of the tour of these homes, the bus ride and the luncheon is $15.A full day of enjoyment, a glimpse of old homes, a talk on local history in the area will entertain you all day.Tickets may be obtained from any DAR member of the Chamber of Commerce Malone.Reservations can be made by calling Gwene Gleason 483-1308 or Dorothy Smith 483-5595.Fine performance by Howdy Dowdy Ears & Company Ormstown Saracens tied for first This past Saturday, Orm- stown's two rugby teams were in action against two Montreal clubs.| In division II play.the Saracens “second team faced Welfare Central, also known as Westmount.Unfortunately wealth won.Ormstown opened the “scoring early with an uncoverted
