CVR was defending the Yes” side to this question.CVR came out ahead in the Drama category where contestants had to illustrate the theme Springtime injustice. They were ahead also in solving the Computer Problem Then in the Current Events and Math-Science quizzes.Massey-Vanier was able to accumulate more points than CVR.But.all in all.when all points were added, CVR managed to win the event by the score of 8 to 6.Total points were calculated on 10 this ime.instead of 1.000 when they met HS Defending CVR's honor in the Intellectual Olympics were, |.to KR.front row: Fiorella Sist, Sheena Thiel.Tamara Kater.Andrew Kuchling.Back row: Sunny Kumar Lopes, Bryan Pearce.Soukwan Chan, Jason Billings The winning team was presented with a trophy and plagues.while contestants from Massey Vamier each received a gold medal. The Intellectual Olympics were started by Bob Douglas.a leacher at Massey Vanier High Attending the event on April 19 were observers from three other high schools Lemoyne d'Iberville nn l.ongueuil.Alexander Gault Len noxviller.and Hudson High who are thinking about joining the Intellectual Olympics circuit next year Because CVR was hosting the event.they had the privilege ot choosing the judges who were Dr Ergil Pedersen.former vice chancellor at McGill, Ir George Johnston.former Head of the English Department at Carleton University.Linda Heagart, PhD in Clinical Psychology.and Mrs Mary Drummond.who has art degrees from McGill and Cape Town.South Africa At the reception which Murphy.and teachers Mary Ellen O'Neil and Grey Edwards (absent from photo: Katherine Brown and Ken Reid).> ARN 5 = en PS Proudiy display ed in the showcase in CVR's Foyer is the paraphernalia connected with the Intellectual Olympics, including color photo published in the Montreal Gazette on April 21, and clippings from The Gleaner.followed the contest, one of the judges.Dr Pederson.marvelled at the knowledge and maturity ot high school students today.as compared to a few years ago To him.much progress has been made A large part of the credit for CURUS success must be given to the teachers who were responsible for this activity: Mary Elien O'Neill and Gregg Kid wards From now on, Tres St-Sacrement council to pay rent on office, hall and vault From now on.and even retroactively to January 1.1488.the Corporation of Tres St-Sacrement will pay a rent of $300 per month to Howick Village for sharing their secretary-treasurer's office.the council hall and the vault.AL its regular meeting on April 5.the council of Tres St-Sacrement ratified an agreement reached between the municipality and the mayor of Howick Village.Roma Myre.for payment of this rent. The municipality of Tres St-Sacrement wasn't paving any rent before on the use of these facilities.A token amount would be paid each year but this was not considered as regular rent Counc also agreed to pay halt the cost tor the pur chase and installation of a tence on the play ground last June 2 The total cost having been $3.270 0.the share ol Tres St-Nacrement will be s2,635 25 \\ Motion was passed ashing Howick Village council to first submit to the Parish ot Tres st Sacremient ans plan un volving major expenses for the loisirs and the Fire Department Council cheque of approved a ete the Howick Sports Association to buy games for 6 to 12- vear-olds who use the playgrounds. The financial report for the Howick Housing Bureau for the vear 1487 was approved.us presented by Pierre-Yves Brosseau.c.a Building permits issued L /@ Ll by inspector Fred Doiron were approved for the following Christian Picotin.renovation.$20.000.Jacques Thibault.barn.$20,000 Robert Tolhurst.septic tank The Ministry of Transport was asked to do the following repairs - Paroisse Saint-Malachie lors de sa réunion du mois d'avril.
