group has sprung up in the House, which does not believe, in whips, discipline, caucuse, Or party orgamzaton of any kind, and will “on principle” oppose uny arrangement of the kind suggested.The new group which is (nameless und leuderless, sunbers six members, und is a throw-off from the original Progressive party.Its personel consists of Messrs Spencer, Garland, Gardiner, and Kennedy all from Alberta, Campbell from Saskatchewan, and Miss Agnes Macphail from Ontario, whose name should probably have been mentioned first, not only in deference to her sex, but because of the fact that she is one of the moving spirits in the uprising against party domination, In a letter jointly addressed to Robert Forke, the Progressive leader, the new group, which is oceu- pational in character, declares in effect that it does not believe in party organization, leadership, or whip control.It blames the main Progressive group for failure to exercise its influence upon government toward the gaining of greater reforms, and intimates that principle has been sacrificed to an inordinate desire for cooperation with the government.Significantly enough one of its chief grievances is that the bulk of the party last session declined to hold up prorogation by a filibuster on the question of the tenure of Bank charters.The new group declares that it can get along very well without a leader or a whip, and serves notice that it will never again attend a Progressive caucus.While the new group has so fur given itself no name, several names have been suggested by parliamentarians ouffide of its meugre ranks.By some it is referred to as the “Fabians®: by others as the “Individualists.° By others still us the *“Bronshes.” the “Gingerites,” the “Lone-handers,” and the “Jégotists.The latter name may stick.During the week Sir llenry Thornton, president of the Canadian National Railways, has given evidence before the new standing committee on government railways and shipping.Subjected to examination by Sir Henry Drayton, Ex-Finance Minister who has confined his attack principally to the Hotel Scribe deal.Jt has been charged that Sir Henry Thornton by reason of this deul dragged the country into an unwarranted expense.The lntter however, declared last week that, since purchasing the property, an offer of forty million francs had been made for the property by Paris interests, with the additional proviso that the Canadian Ngtionals should have free rent LOWER GRADES GET RESULTS OF EXAMINATIONS Jessie Goodfellow Wins Chief Justice Brown's Prize In Grade VIII J » ORMSTOWN ACADEMY Results Are Announced In Classes Up To Grade 8 In Academies ORMSTOWN HIGH SCHOOL Grade 11, Possible marks $00—1 Ross Winter 723: 2 Eric McBain 715;
