Bank Farm a splendid success.The country milieu was enjoyed by all ages.The youngest was Emma, not yet one month old, daughter of Heather and Doug Anderson, who came to \u201c see\u201d the show and have her picture taken with her proud grandfather, charter member Wilburn Anderson.The eldest lady, Addie Roy, in her nineties, always interested in the farm scene and shows, enjoyed the day thoroughly.Mrs.Roy, a great grandmother, must have been proud to have four generations of her family with her at the Achievement Day - a time to cherish.At lunchtime, Andrew Scoble, expressed the appreciation of the Howick Club for the hospitality received during the last fifty years at Terrace Bank and presented Bob Ness and family with a commemorative picture showing some highlights of the last half century.It was also the occasion to honour the Club\u2019s Charter members with a commemorative coin recognizing their contribution as club pioneers.In attendance were Wilburn Anderson, Gruer was not able to be present.The Howick Calf Club which began in 1933 has continued of flourish and expand through the years.The location in early years was the home and spacious grounds of Annie and Chester Orr of Riverfield.In those days generally calves were walked to the Orr grounds.At the beginning only two members per family were permitted and only boys.With families of more than two boys, some boys had to wait until the second year to become members.And there are still grown up girls who longed to have become members, but their aspirations were thwarted by the \u201cboys only\u201d stipulation.To help mark the special occasion a sumptuous cake for dessert, made by Bev Cocher, delighted the taste buds.Aubrey- Riverfield WI catered the lunch - a tradition also for many years.The morning saw a flurry of activity as members arrived with their exhibits to be judged - handicrafts, baking, garden produce, garden scrapbooks, collections and special categories.In turn the Charpentier of St.Hyacinthe.Keeping the show organized and the classes moving onto the field were the Club leaders Grant and Caroline Roy.The Alumni class was a popular event with 15 former members participating, spanning the generations since the Club\u2019s inception in 1937.Showing their expertise in showmanship as they led their calves into the ring were Wilburn Anderson, Donald Templeton, Murray Templeton, Bob Ness, Kenneth Roy, Doug Lang, Larry Ness, Carolyn Cameron, Brian MacFarlane, Cindy Milne, Alain Roleau, and Jill Milne.Brian MacFarlane was judged the Alumni winner.Adding pizzazz to the event was the appearance of a dual breed cow - the Holshire (red and black with white) - an \u201cudderly ridiculous\u201d bovine specimen, shown by Carole Tannahill and Linda Ness.The couple issued a suspended sentenced of two years imprisonment Deanna Richards and Daniel Krafft, the two Hinchinbrooke residents accused of criminal negligence causing the death of their two-month-old baby in November 1996, were both issued a suspended sentenced of two ycars imprisonment, deferred to a two-year probation.With this sentence, the couple avoids a second trial, as decreed by the Québec Court of Appeal last November.In rendering judgment August 19 at the Valleyfield courthouse, the judge upheld the sentence agreed upon and suggested for the couple by both the lawyers for the Crown and for the defense.The magistrate also ordered that throughout their probation period, neither of the accused should consume drugs or alcohol.A week earlier, the couple appeared before the tribunal
