[ Church we net] From the foyer a heavy wooden meat packer\u2019s door opens to the former sanctuary, now with a rough wood finish over insulation with several refrigeration units on the ceiling\u2014 a nice place to be on a hot summer day.The choir loft is now an attic where the remaining one-bushel boxes are stacked, then a ladder to the belfry that would provide a sweeping panorama of the Chateauguay Valley if renovated.McMillan knows of no other Congregational churches operating in Canada today.The oldest stone church is in Quebec City pre-dating this one by a couple decades.A quick Internet search reveals two other Congregational churches in towns named Franklin, one in Connecticut and one in New Hampshire.If the town council discusses the issue of preserving old buildings, property owners and realtors will be cautious in accepting an historic designation because strict regulations may be imposed on how they can renovate it.With all of the divisive issues Franklin has dealt with in recent years Linda Church in Franklin Centre.Insulated walls and refrigeration units were insta McMillan hopes the project of preserving the church could rally people together, French and English, black and white, Catholic and Protestant, old-timers and newcomers.\u201cNo politics, no religion, no color,\u201d she says, \u201cMaybe I'm a dreamer.\u201d Her father died ten years ago and she bought the church from his estate 5 years later.Now her brother John is the owner.Linda and her husband Gary Upton operate the family farm across the street as a Pick-Your-Own apple orchard and sugarbush.\u201cPeople galore\u201d come through Franklin Centre all summer and fall and stop to take pictures and walk around the church, she says.But there are no public services such as toilets in the village.\u201c In Franklin we have no identity;
