worries citizens SRE VU RP CD TE While Godmanchester citizens are not opposed to the possible expansion of their municipal administrative building, they are deeply concerned by the implementation of a special tax, that started in January, to finance the work.About 30 people, mostly farmers, attended the municipal council meeting early last week to express their apprehensions about the decision to impose a tax of $0.19 per $100 valuation.Citizens hope it is possible for the elected municipal officials to impose the special tax without strangling them financially.In turn, former councillor Albert de Martin, former mayor Philippe Leblanc, and the other farmers who addressed the elected municipal officials, complained that they must assume these heavy fiscal burdens.\u201cThe farmers can no longer assume these tax increases,\u201d insisted de Martin, who thinks the elected municipal officials want to put too much on the shoulders of local farmers.Municipal authorities expect this special tax will enable them to collect approximately $187,000, to be used for the expansion of the municipal administrative building According to the municipal council, the municipal building has become too restrictive over the past few years, \u201cpreventing us from offering efficient services to the citizens,\u201d added the mayor, Pierre Poirier.The mayor pointed out that in 2002, the municipality tried to purchase the former Sûreté du Québec office through a loan payment of $75,000.\u201cAt the registry, the citizens objected to this loan payment, saying the municipality had enough property and that we ought to expand the existing office instead of buying and setting up a new building,\u201d he said.Citizens would have liked to have been kept up to date regarding the projected expansion of the Ridge Road office.One citizen even said he was not aware of anything the elected officials are planning for the renovation of the building.\u201cI arrived Franklin loses Municipality.In an effort to make a long interconnected trail throughout the Chateauguay Valley the club requires crossing and access to the side of certain roads.They claim permission from the Police where approved by the Municipality.The Councilors studied and debated this issue before putting the idea of a one year trial period to a vote.The vote ended in an even split, three in favor, three against.Mayor Blair cast the deciding vote in favor of allowing the trail to pass through the area.Her decision was based on the economic and activity benefits of the proposal, she said.The concern of the Councilors against the idea is that noisy snowmobiles and four-wheel motorcycles will create a disturbance to residents.The Councilors mentioned that at the first sign of noise complaints from property owners, they would not hesitate to cancel the project.As Councilor Sylvain Barré put it, \u201cPeople don\u2019t buy a house in the country to find noisy motorcycles, they do it for peace and tranquility.\u201d here in December and I was never informed,\u201d said Richard Brisebois.When de Martin reproached the council for not having adequately informed citizens about the building
