afternoon of May 20, Dundee mayor Jean Armstrong received word that the battle to allow the ambulance service from Fort Covington to come to the municipality was over.The medical technicians from Fort Covington will be able to transport patients from Dundee's entire territory, not only Hopkins Point, as has been the case for some time now.In the letter sent by Daniel Lefrançois of the Centre de Santé Publique au Québec, it was written that \u201cafter reviewing the information brought to the [Ministère de la Santé et des Services Sociaux (MSSS)]'s attention by municipal stakeholders and the position expressed by the Fort Covington ambulance service, we have reconsidered our initial position for the safety of the population as a whole.Accordingly, effective immediately, the MSSS agrees to have the whole territory of the township municipality of Dundee to be served by the Fort Covington ambulance service.\u201d A further provision was made by the government, in that they state that while it is preferable for any patients being transported to be taken to a hospital in Quebec, that \u201cif their condition is so delicate that they must be transported to the nearest hospital centre, they may be transported to an American hospital centre.\u201d Armstrong says that this permission will mean that residents of Dundee will now go back to a response time of six to eight minutes, rather than 30 to 35 minutes.The reaction to the letter has been unanimously happy.Armstrong says she is \u201cabsolutely thrilled,\u201d adding that \u201cwe have been working on this for fourteen months\u201d and that there have been \u201chours of worrying\u201d that something serious might happen to someone before permission was granted.She called it the \u201chighlight of [her] Ormstown fairgrounds on May 19.The performance they delivered will stay in the minds of the 900 students from local elementary schools and elderly people who attended the morning show and the 1150 members of the public who had tickets for the evening show for a long time.The numbers are particularly impressive given that members of the ride spoke of shows they had done in the Greater Toronto Area which were attended by just 300 people.Members also told organiser Kyla Stacey that they felt very welcomed and respected, and were impressed with the enthusiasm of the crowd, particularly the school groups.The 32 horses and riders performed traditional cavalry drill exercises with impressive precision, a testament to the many hours of practice logged in by the group, who train eight times performance was begun with a performance of \u201cAmazing Grace\u201d by the Elgin & District Pipes and Drums and the Ormstown Band, in tribute to the late Lindsay Cullen, who passed away late last year.The 33rd rider in the ring was Inspector Marty Chesser, who was in charge of the group and led the riders in and out of the ring with his 21-year-old horse Hector, watching and waiting as they performed for the large crowd.The Inspector was on the Musical Ride himself in 1988, and has now returned to a permanent posi- tion with the program.Chesser explained that the RCMP receives some 800 applications a year from officers who have spent their five years working in the field and would like to become part of the Musical Ride.Just 32 of those are asked to come and try out, and eighteen will be chosen to join the ride each year.The riders chosen for the ride are not necessarily those with the most riding experience, in fact many enter the program never having ridden a horse before.\u201cBeing able to work together is key,\u201d Chesser said, adding that once selected, the riders go through five weeks of intensive training in equitation before they are assigned a position in the ride and a horse, with whom they will train further to perfect their skills before performing in shows.The horses are bred on the RCMP\u2019s breeding farm in Pakenham, Ontario and are mainly [Letter ) To the parents of students attending Chateauguay Valley Regional High School Chantal Hortop I would like to explain to my students and their parents why | will not be attending this year\u2019s Graduation Ceremony.On a Wednesday in April, | took my class outside with blankets and a basket of books and asked that they sit together and read quietly.They complied.The following Tuesday, | was given a letter of insubordination for this action.My name was placed on the list of insubordinate teachers because | was not in my assigned classroom during the last ten minutes of period one.Our society is based on the assumption of innocence until proven guilty.It seems the New Frontiers School Board assumes its teachers guilty until proven innocent.Clearly, if the teachers who received letters of insubordination were «assumed» to not be performing their duties, these letters have no legal validity and should be destroyed.However, that is not why | will be absent from the Graduation Ceremony this year.In March, our union asked that we participate in a pressure tactic to force the government to negotiate class sizes and funding for special needs students.We were asked to stop teaching ten minutes before the end of period one each Wednesday in April.We were to continue to supervise our students.Compared to actions such as strike days, | thought this would be a very minor disruption.| have yet to hear any administrator state that the union action was jeopardizing the students\u2019 academic success.Instead, teachers have been told that school administrators had to follow the school board orders because failure to comply would result in disciplinary action against them that could compromise their position in our school board.Did our administrators show a lack of leadership by not trying to find a suitable compromise before this action started?Something has eroded the trust and support between our staff and our administration.That is why some of us who have always tried to be at Graduation and very much want to be there this year to share a special day with our students will be staying away.Obviously the New Frontiers School Board must be held accountable for forcing the school administrators into a «no win» situation.Before deciding on a school for their children, parents need to ask the commissioners of the New Frontiers School Board if it intends to adopt the spirit of cooperation and support towards its teachers that the local French school board has shown before the extra activities that make C.V.R.such a special place for our students are put at risk for next year.Our schools can be better.Our students deserve better.Please, for the good of your children\u2019s education, ask questions, write letters and get involved.Randy Rennie - Gendarmerie royale du Canada (GRC) 2010 se sont produits sur la piste devant les gradins du terrain de la foire d'Ormstown mercredi.Les deux prestations que la célèbre troupe a livrées resteront à jamais gravée dans les esprits des 900 élèves de écoles primaires locales venus les voir de près en matinée et des | 150 personnes qui avaient des billets pour le spectacle du soir.Les 32 chevaux et leurs cavaliers ont exécuté des prouesses de cavalerie traditionnelle avec une précision impressionnante, ce qui résulte des nombreuses heures que le groupe consacre à pratiquer, elle qui s\u2019entraîne huit fois par semaine quand elle se retrouve au bercail à Ottawa.La parfaite coordination et l'excellent timing ont été des clés absolument essentielles pour que les officiers puissent exécuter des manoeuvres telles que «la spirale» et «la roue de chariot», tout en restant parfaitement sychronisés pour produire un merveilleux spectacle.Le 33e cavalier sur la piste fut l\u2019inspecteur Marty Chesser, qui est en charge de la troupe et qui a conduit les coureurs l\u2019intérieur et à l'extérieur du site avec son cheval âgé de 21 ans, Hector.Cet homme faisait lui-même partie du Carrousel en 1988, et est maintenant de retour à un poste permanent avec le programme.M.Chesser a expliqué que la GRC reçoit environ 800 demandes par année venant d'agents qui ont passé leurs cinq années de loyaux services comme policiers fédéraux et qui souhaitent faire partie du Carrousel.Seulement 32 d'entre eux sont invités à venir faire des essais et dix-huit seront choisis pour leur programme de formation de trois ans à l\u2019âge de trois ans, où ils vont «bâtir leur confiance», a déclaré M.Chesser, jusqu'à ce qu'eux aussi puissent «tenter leur chance dans la troupe.» Les chevaux utilisés actuellement au sein du groupe sont âgés de six à dix-sept ans.Une fois que le cheval et le cavalier sont prêtes à faire équipe pour performer, ils prennent part à environ 80 à 100 ambulanciers de Fort Covington était bel et bien terminée.Les techniciens médicaux de la localité américaine seront en mesure de transporter des patients de toute la municipalité du Haut Saint-Laurent et non seulement ceux de Hopkins Point, comme ce fut le cas depuis un certain temps.Dans une lettre envoyée par Daniel Lefrançois du centre de santé publique du Québec, il fut écrit que «après avoir examiné les informations portées à l'attention du (ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS)) par les intervenants municipaux et la position exprimée par le service ambulancier de Fort Covington, nous avons reconsidéré notre position initiale pour la sécurité de la population dans son ensemble.La missive indique aussi qu'«en conséquence, avec effet immédiat.le MSSS s'engage à faire en sorte que la totalité du territoire de la municipalité du canton de Dundee soit desservie par le service ambulancier de Fort Covington.» Une autre disposition a été mise de l'avant par le gouvernement québécois, en se sens que même s'il est préférable pour tous les patients d'être transportés dans un hôpital de Québec.«si leur état est si délicat qu'ils doivent être acheminés à des matières residuelles fertilisantes (MRF) employes comme engrais au niveau agricole.Adopte le 12 mai par le conseil des maires, le règlement de contrôle interimaire (RCI) vient regir une fois pour toutes la gestion de ces produits.Les élus municipaux ont voulu fixer des règles du jeu pour le recours à ces produits et établir ses balises quant aux moyens a prendre pour en disposer.Comme le prevoit ce nouveau RCI, il sera impossible d'importer dans la MRC des boues provenant des usines de traitement des eaux usées des municipalités.des entreprises de désencrage du papier et des abattoirs de l'extérieur du territoire du Haut Saint-Laurent.Les déchets certifiés conformes par le Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ) ne sont pas visés par cette interdiction.«Nous allons exercer un
