of the R.C.A.F.on Wednesday night.By process of elimination this number will be greatly reduced and when the final listing is compiled it is expected to contain about 25 names, These applicants will be enrolled into the non-flying division of the unit as rapidly as they can be absorbed.Interviews of this type are con- ducted at regular intervals and Interviewed By Local Flying Squadron form an important part of the squadron's program of expansion.Preference in the preparation of the final listing is given to those having specialized qualifications such as previous training in the field of radio, metal work, welding, airplane engines, woodwork, and electricity.Due to the fact that all R.C.A.F.units are self sustaining as far as personnel is concerned, and require five men on the ground to one in the air, the ground screws of squadrons are chosen with exceptional care, Skidding automobiles, frantic efforts of drivers and pedestrians to escape injury — then a body huried across Education Report We have now reached the turn- in gpoint in Protestant education, declared Mrs, A.Stalker and V.C.Wansbrough, headmaster of Lower Canada College, both members of the Protestant Education Survey committee, in addressing a large audience at the Roslyn School auditorium on Monday night, at a meeting of the Roslyn Avenue Home and School Association. The public was urged to study the report of the Committee copies of which.wega.~avallable at.the meeting, and make its wishes known. If this opportunity for a complete reorganization were allowed to pass, the speakers asserted, the whole cause might be lost for a generation.“There are ten school board members for every eight teachers,” said Mr, Wansbrough, in speaking of the large number of small boards, some controlling only one school.“There are 360 school boards in Protestant Que- bee, 1400 members in all, to administer the education of but 75,000 children.” In Scotland only 35 local educational authorities were required for a school population of 1,000,000.Rural Schools Mrs, Stalker drew attention to the problems of the one-room rural school where the youngest and least experienced teachers, many still in their ’teens, attempted to teach all subjects in all seven grades under conditions of almost total isolation.“The day of the little red schoolhouse is gone,” Mrs, Stalker declared, pointing out that the keen competition of the present day world with its struggle for economic existence called for an educational program more suited to present-day needs. The movement toward consolidation, already begun, must be carried out to its logical conclusion.6-3-3 Plan Mention was made of the so- called 6-3-3 plan, with the proviso that the intermediate three ïyears should be for all and not merely for those pursuing the general course.By this means, those taking the academic course leading to matriculation would not be denied the creative outlets of courses in the arts and handi- craîts.At the close of the meeting another member of the Survey Committee, S.R.Noble, who was in the audience, answered a number of questions with reference to the financial aspect of the recommendations made.Among those heard during the discussion period were Miss Catherine I.Mackenzie of the Montreal High School for Girls, Mr.Wm.F.Dawson of the King's School association, Mr.L.N.Buzzell of the Montreal! would like to impress is this—my experience in meeting thousands of people who have sought positions since 1936 is something I shall ever value, It has taught me that to those who are putting up such a brave front, a word of cheer or a note of one courngement means a lot, “When an election takes place and the clected representatives take their scats, into the minds of those out of work, comes the hope that perhaps their representative can do something for them. These people might have been looking for, work for years, they have no connections with persons in authority.Who can blame
