Club, Notre Dame de Grace Women’s Club, Daughters of the Nile Lodge, Alherbreen Club, True Kindred Lodge, Victorian Order of Nurses, Masonic Choir, Royal Arch Masons, and the Westmount Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.A number of unusually successful meetings by varios bodies were held during the past winter and early spring, the most notable probably being the open sessions sponsored by the Business Association of Westmount.Meanwhile the staff is busy putting the building in good condition for the fall. The entire interior of the building is being given a thorough cleaning and all fixtures showing signs of wear are being repaired.Gold-colored paint is heing applied to a number of chairs in order that they be uniform in ap-! pearance with those so painted early in the year, | Department Released In its efforts to protect the health of the community, the Westmount Health Department has issued a series of articles on the control.habits, and extermination of rodents and flys. The latest in the series follows: The House Fly Of the many species of flies that are found about our houses the most abundant and anno¥ing is the “Musca Domestica” or house fly. This fly is distributed the world over and is notorious for the part it plays in spreading diseases such as Typhoid Fever, Tuberculosis, Dysentery and many other diseases. It breeds in filth such as manure and garbage and has the habit of passing directly from that filthy surface to human food if left exposed. The fly, having a hairy body and logs, with sticky feet and mouth parts, can carry all manner of bacteria from its breeding place tn our exposed food. The fly lays eggs in batches of 100 to 150 at a time, which can hatch within 24 hours in warm weather, pass through the larva g‘-~c in a week, then throug the pupal stage in another week, when it emerges as a full grown creature.’ Thus in warm weather we can have a full crop of new flies inside of two weeks. To control the house fly, the first things is to eliminate the breeding places, such as exposed garbage, manure, or decayed vegetation. In our dwellings, measures to exclude flies by screening doors and windows is the first duty.: Tn remove any that have al- may be used.he Westmount Lxaminer Serving The City of Wesimouni, Garden Suburb of Canada’s Mefropolis WESTMOUNT, THURSDAY, JULY TO ADDRESS CLUB Howard
