And may there be no moaning at ‘the bar When I put out to sea; But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundiess deep Turns again home, _ “Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell When I embark; For, though from out our bourne of time and place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face, When I have crost the bar.” Following the organ rendition of Chopin's Marche Funebre by W.Johnston Hislop, the white- gowned choir and the congregation sang the hymn “Unto the Hills Around Do 1 Lift My Longing eyes.” The lesson, following the 23rd Psalm, was taken from the 44th chapter of Ecclesiasties and the 15th chapter of the First Epistle to the Corinthians. The remainder of the service included the hymn “Where the Light Forever Shineth,” the anthem, “The King of Love” (Shelley), the benediction and the National Anthem. The recessional hymn was “Onward Christian opinions was the dictum of the Ministry of Information's Foreign Publicity Department that the term Near Eas’ has ‘almost passed out of current use” and that the Middle East is an all-embracing designation of the eastern Mediterranean area. The Press Association is taking the Ministry's word for it and is using Middle East.It took quite a struggle to get anyone in London to he watching successive German steps in the attempted conquest of : Europe that they must revise one of their most deeply rooted be- "Hefs of the 1930’s—namely, that “America's entrance into the last World War was a “mistake.” This is reported by Dr.George Gallup, director of the American Institute of Public Opinion, as a result of surveys on the subject by the institute.“The new direction of Amer- {ean thinking may mean «an eventual revision of much that has been written and taught regarding America's entry into the World War over the past twonty years,” Dr, Gallup says.“A year and a half beforo the present war bogan—in April, 1937, to be exact—an institute study showed that a majority of Americans belleved our entrance had been a mistake, Throughout the nineteen twenties and thirties, books, films, plays and classroom teaching had hammered into American minds the conviction that ‘we didn’t achieve what we set out to achieve,’ that ‘we didn't make the world safe for democracy,’ and that ‘our galns were too small for the price we paid.’ ‘Many Americans were convinced that ‘Germany was no more to blame than other countries.’ “Now, with (their atlention riveted on (Germany's expansion into Norway, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, France and Central Europe, more and more Americans are saying, in effect, that Germany did constitute an menace to the United States ln 1917 and that this country was justified in taking the action she did.“Just as post-war disillusionment about the World War was the key to much of the writing and legislation of the past few years, no the shift that has taken place in American thinking many be an important factor in coming United States decisions regarding aid to Britain, The survey does not mean, of course, that a majority or anything like a majority of the American people would favor going to war against Germany and her allies today, Trend Measurod In Surveys ‘‘’The trend of American thinking on the World War has boen measured In successive Institute studies, the earliest of which reaches back 314 years. In April, 1937—on the twentletb anniversary of the American declaration of war—the {institute found 64 per cent saying our entrance had been a mistake, 28 per sent
