The spending group is finding is increasingly difficult to buy expensive articles, as war production increasingly curtails the manufacture of many peacetime commodities. But they manage to spend most of their current income by the purchase of many temporary articles and services to be secured at low cost. There is one certain prediction which may be made now. When peace comes, the men and women who will be able to buy new furniture for the house, new cars, chines, radios and the like, or who will be taking well-earned holiday trips will not be {hose who are now spending their quarters and heir dollar bills with reckless abandon. It is much easier to buy more Savings Certificates now when them in terms of spending money—after Hitler is beaten.OFFENSIVE AT HOME Everyone is {in deadly fashion.i What we need is an offensive’ right here i at home.It is obvious that we must put every- Ÿ thing into the maximum production of ships, 5 tanks, planes and guns, And .cheerful obedience to the spirit, letter, of all government regulations. But we must also put forward an aggressive plan for » _—.! building a pattern nation.ae impatient for ‘Nations to “take the offensive’.for a second front in Europe, and already British and Canadian planes are preparing the way i to produce a pattern for living.ivided roughly One for it.into the world.people.washing ma- and more War one visualizes the United They call we must give as well as the We have had the freedom to work it out, and if we fail to give the blueprint now—other nations have a generation may never have the Our ancestors not only pioneered a new country for us, but they also pioneered in the realm of moral courage.Perhaps this was the tougher job and the one which was necessary before Confederation could become more than a dream.Perhaps we need to pioneer again. For instance, George Brown and John A.MacDonald were not even on speaking terms and yet, for their love of Canada, they were willing to torego personal feelings and ambition, and work together under a third man for the unity of Upper and Lower Canada. It was only in this spirit of self-sacrifice that a united plan was found and worked out.harder: to cut down trees, burn out stumps, tight Indians; it virgin and unsettled, is the Province of Quebec, largest of the Dominion members.Ancient Indian wars, early French-Canadlan history and the romance of Old France—even such distinctive historical paintings do not obscure the brilliant hues of the fiching picture.Quebec has been endowed by a benign Providence with a generous natural atlraction in its rivers, its lakes and its mountains. The Laurentians, particularly, are natural playgrounds unsurpassed this side of the Rockies. Many varieties of tish are found in the lakes and streams of this mountain vacation land, All told, the waters of the province boast Atlantic salmon, speckled brook trout, lake trout and ouananiche.Muscalunge, black bass, dore, and Great Northern pike also are plentiful, as are other varieties of fresh-water favorites.Really choice game regions are seldom found along the main highways and accordingly, Canadian Pacific Railway presents the solution by thrusting branch lines deep into the most desirable fish and game haunts.Principal gateways to Quebec's most popular and most fruitful fighting zones are strung along the St.Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers. They range from the Atlantic coast to the Gatineau district north of Ottawa, hundreds of miles to the west. They Include the trout-filled lakes of the Lau- rentians and the waters of north- arn Quebec. They extend westward to the Kipawa l.akes, southward to the Ottawa River Valley, eastward to the Fastern Townships and northward to the Gaspe coast and Atlantic Ocean. Many formerly quaint, sleeping habitant hamlets have suddenly come to life and are now popular vacation resorts as a result of the traffic realized during the Quebec fishing season. The largest and most prized fish found in Quebec waters is the Atlantic or Gaspe
