sons of 1914- 1918, in France and Flanders where the bodies of many of her best manhood paved the roads to victory, will not pass from out the hearts and minds of the people of this city, as was well demonstrated last Sunday afternoon by the presence of thousands of citizens at the Soldiers\u2019 Me: morial, where a Commemoration Service was held in place of the regular Remembrance Day one \u2014cancelleq this year because of the labor exigencies of the war.Presiding at the ceremony was His Worship Mayor Walter A.Merrill, K.C., and taking part in the service was the 2nd (R) Battalion, Royal Montreal Regiment (MG), commanded by Lt.Col.H.G.Brewer, M.C.,, who paraded to the memorial headed by the R.M.R.No.14 Branch of the Canadian Legion and a guard of honor supplied by tha, Veterans\u2019 Company under the command of Major H.Armstrong, V.D.Among the other units parading were a detachment of No, 1 Westmount Squadron Air Cadets Canada, under the command of Squadron Leader H.P.Tllsley, the Westmount Squadron Corps of Imperial Frontiersmen, under the command of Captain Walter Gross- mith, St.Willibrord's drum and bugle band under Bandmaster Patrick Keleher, and the West- mount Chapter of St.John Ambulance Association in charge of James H.Smith.At the beginning of the service, the Veterans\u2019 Guard was inspected by Brig.-General E.de B.Panet, C.M.G., D.S.0.,, E.D.Following the inspection, the religious service was conducted by Lt.-Col.Harold 8.Laws, V.D.chaplain of the Royal Montreal Regiment, the congregation singing the hymn, * God of Our Fathers, Known of Old.\u201d Colonel Laws then read the Scripture lesson from the Book of Revelations and from II Corinthians, and led the prayer.In his prayer of Commemoration, Colonel Laws referred to the = Æby people call to nobler sense of gratitude of all for the sacrifices of those who gave their lives in the Great War.Continuing, Colonel Laws said, \u201cAlmighty God, with Whom the souls of the faithful departed do live in joy and felicity, we remember before Thee, with thankful hearts, the Citizens of Westmount and men of this Regiment, who gave their lives in the Great War.We thank Thee for their ready response to the call of their Country; for their cheerfulness and courage in the midst of suffering and danger; for their steadfastness and self-sacrifice in the hour of death.Grant unto them, O Lord, joy and peace and greater opportunities of service in the new life to which Thou hast called them.And we pray Thee, O Lord, that the offering of their lives may not have been in vain; that we and may hear ihe] living which sounds in our ears from the graves of those who died thal we might live; that we may dedicate our lives anew to the work of bringing in Thy kingdom upon earth; so that out of these years of sin and misery and loss, there may arise a better world.through Jesus Christ our Lord.\u201d At the close of the religious services that ended with the congregational singing of
