patients and try to create a cheerful atmosphere.A prepared address of Mrs, L.Douglass Ross, a graduate nurse of the Royal Victoria Hospital, was later read by Miss Nancy MacCunn, daughter of one of the graduates.Mrs.Ross was unable to be present through illness.Miss M.L.Parker in her report on the school, referred to a meeting of the executive committee.Canadian Nurses' Association, held in Montreal recently and pointed out that resolutions had been passed in which it was decided that the other provinces should follow the example of Quebec and bring ali subsidiary nursing groups under the control of the association, which would be licensed and organized on a pattern similar to that of Miss Parker's School of Trained Attendants. In her address Mrs.Ross expressed her opinion that end of each branch on the tree was wired with 8 tiny pink rosebud.Silver tinsel, combined with Christmas ornaments, completed the picture. The wired fresh flower idea could test be applied, of course, to a very small tree.Tiny packages wrapped in colored paper dotted here and there on the tree will lend special interest.Have a small parcel of some amusing trinket for each member of the family. If cranberries are available, have the children make strings of them to give your tree a colorful touch.Attractive Christmas decorations that can be combined with bright glass decorations, berries, and other ornaments can be made by simply crystallizing crooked twigs and branches of trees.Simply wrap some loose cotton batting around the branches and tie it with wool.Next dissolve about two pounds of alum in a quart of boiling water, and pour it over the selected twigs and branches.Allow them to remain suspended for 12 hours, and they will be found to be crystallized.Small branches and twigs can be treated without the cotton batting.Coarse twine Is another adaptable medium for this treatment.By attaching shiny Christmas tree ornaments you have decorations that are most attractive and simple. This method can be used to frost Christmas trees, too.Celebrations Mark Christmas In China In China, the Christmas festival among Christians is known as Sheng Dan Jieh,, the Holy Birth festival. This celebration has gradually penetrated inland.Various paper decorations and evergreens adorn the churches and homes.Paper chains are made of green, red, yellow and blue and are suspended in interlocking festoons from the ceiling. On the white walls, large posters are hung.On them are elaborate characters meaning peace and joy.‘No candles are used, but the trees are decorated with paper flowers, colored paper chains and cotton snowflakes. There is usually an early service. The church is kept dark except for lanterns carried by the worshippers.Carolers wend their way along the road before to such melodies as ‘Hark, the Herald Angels Sing.” The service consists of reading the Christmas message from the Bible, music, dramatization of the manger scene, and an offering for the poor.Gifts are distributed to the children. The packages contain such things as tangerines, peanuts, pretty picture cards (sometimes used cards sent from Am- erica), candy and western lead pencils. The cream of Bible reading should be made into butter and spread on our daily bread.4190 St.Catherine PATT RI RID a3] W., Corner Greene Specializing in the building of shoes for all types Scandinavian forests.Tree decorations, except those left over from other Christmases, are non-existent, HEAT AND EQUIPMENT MUST BE CONSERVED TO HELP WAR EFFORT Wartime conditions are such that they demand that everyone in Canada economize on fuel and conserve heat.Proper care of heating equipment, the conservation of heat f{tseif, and good sense in dressing will do much to relieve hardships caused by the fuel shortage, Consumer Information service states, The first and possibly the most important thing is to wear warm clothing indoors to eliminate the peed for excessive heat.Housewives note that if they want to keep warm in spite of low temperatures, they should wear slacks when possible, for slacks are warmer than skirts when working around the house.Shirts and sweaters with long sleeves keep the arms warm.Heat Escapes Heat escapes through doorways so doors should be kept closed as much as possible. However if the kitchen has a coal or wood stove the door should be left open between the kitchen and vest of the house so that some of ‘he heat will circulate.Room heat escapes through a fireplace it the damper Is left open when the fire is not burning. If there is no damper, stuff the chimney opening with newspaper between fires, but don't forget to remove the newspaper some cold evening when a grate “Irn Ir desired, Doors of the room in which a fireplace ls being used should be kept closed.and cross draughts eliminated from the doors and windows.Otherwise the fire, which creates a natural draught, will allow the heat to be drawn from other rooms and it will escape up the chimney: Do not heat unused rooms such as the garage, game rooms, attic rooms and other places which are rarely used.Provent Damage If the family is to be away for ua number of days, the temperature should be kept not lower than fifty degrees to prevent damage from freeing.Repair or replace leaky, defective radiator valves.A reflective shield for the back of the radiator will repay itself if it is available as it prevents the heat from being absorbed by the wall and reflects it back into the room.Pull down the window shades as soon as it becomes dark to prevent heat from being dissipated when it strikes the cold glass.Heavy draperies drawn across the windows also provide additional protection, At moderafe costs, draughts in the most part can be wiped out by weather stripping loose-fitting doors and windows, calking cracks and open seams of exterior casings, and installing storm windows and doors.Frozen eggs are now being packed in cellophane, with an
