War conditions were thought to be the reason for this condition, as many members were obliged to leave Westmount, due to war services or changes in employment.On the whole, too, it was noticed that people spent less time in the Library, reading periodicals or studying reference books \u2014 widespread employment and domestic problems were undoubtedly factors here.The total accessions \u201cfor the year 1943 \u2018were 43,779 volumes, with 7,161 adult members and 1,- 569 juvenile members.Approximately 205,634 books were loaned during the year a decrease of 6,682 of the previous year.The one novel which readers preferred.above all, wag \u2018\u2018\u2019The Robe,\u201d by Lloyd Douglas;
