schoo! below the police station, completed their second set of exams yesterday afternoon. As a result of the midnight oi) that has been burnt in tbe garden suburb the extra-curricu- lar activities have been more than somewhat limited the past week. But, as promised a couple of columns ago, we dropped an on a rehearsal of the Purple and White Revue's ski train number at the junior high last Saturday morning and frankly, ladies and gents, we were impressed. The cast are pretty well familiar with their lines, some of whieh are very good, (we mean the lines— but there's nothing wrong with the cast), the music js strictly hep and the whole thing promises Lo be one of the high spots of what is pow shaping up as a top-rate production.Jackie Mickles, who seems destined to end up somewhere near the top of this show business, (see page one), and Peier “The Head” Farrell headline the cast.Jacqueline plays the part of a New Yorkers on her way to the porthlands for a week-end's skiing which Joe (played by The Head) is determined to turn into a week-end’s he-ing.It's a well- written number with lots of rib- tickling gags from which a topnotch east extracts everything possible.Moe Kirsch, the number one discovery of the Purple and White Revue '46, plays the part of a French-Canadian ‘‘peanuts, chewing gum, cigars” lad with gusto. The Moe is really good. Then there are Bill Hanning- ton, crony of Joe's, (in real life as well as in this drama), Jimmy Hoss, ye prexy ot the Students Council who plays the part of the train's conductor, and several young ladies who lend a touch of beauty to the entire proceedings. This is one number that should Eo over very, very big.HI-Y The Boys’ Hi-Y Club swung back into routine with a supper meeting at College, New Hampshire, and re- sently Canadian Consul at Got- haab, Greenland, spoke on ‘‘Canada's North.” Dr.Lloyd commenced his disclosure by pointing out the fallacy of thinking of the earth’s shape as round, rather it is rectangular, he said.He illustrtaed, by means of maps, that the shortest route between the most densely populated areas of the world lay due north, The Arctic is not as remote as people imagine, he remarked.Dr.Lloyd pointed out that the weather originates in the north, thus influencing all parts of the world. He then went on to compare the inhabitants of Canada’s north with those of Greenland, where he had been stationed. The Eskimo of Canada receives no education, nor has he the ordinary amenities of life such as medical and nursing care.He ls a trader in special branches in which he has exceptional talents. In Greenland, the Eskimo under the supervision of the Danish Government, is one hundred per cent literate, and, except for tuberculosis, which is unfortunately prevalent, diseases such as syphilis, measles and other dreaded sicknesses are extinct, Returning to the life of the Eskimo in Canada, Dr.Lloyd stressed the point that there Is no resident administration in any part, and that there were limitless opportunities for both enterprising and visionary young people .Concluding his address, Dr.Lloyd stated that the anti-labour record, whose government pursued workers’ organizations, allowed military fascist groups to spring up, etc.“These facts,” the article says, “throw light on the reason campaign. If the Russians think these accusations will turn Mr.King from his obvious intention of pursuing this espionage enquiry to its conclusion.thew are mistaken. And if they imagine these tactics will impel either Great Britain or the United States to interfere with a view to hushing the matter up, they are mistaken.Mr.King never takes any steps unless he L-1-< exactly where he is going. We minded people of the world.through one.instrument or another, would move against the Spanish terrorist. That instrument turns out to be France. We have not forgotten the days when Franco was riding high, wide.and handsome with his friends Mussolini and Hitler, flinging at us insults and impertinence, arrogantly defving us to do our worst. We weren't prepared in those days; we had nothing with which to back up our words. Not so today. It is our turn now.Where are vour friends, Francisco?Where are the men who gave you the planes and guns to murder the helpless women and children on the crowded road to Malaga, and to massacre the civilians of Guernica?Shouting that the present move against him is inspired by Communists won’t help Franco any.It sounds too much like the cry of his old Westmount the old Clarke House, surrounded by beautiful trees, was long known to all as a relic of many associations. It has been demolished, but the Clarke -family is respected as the oldest of the John Clarke, states (1906) that .“He was born in the year 1781 of Simon and Ann Waldorf Clarke, in the frame home, standing “until recently at the corner of Clarke Avenue and Cote St.Antoine Sir: After reading your story in the Examiner of last week concerning the erection of a new theatre aud also of licensing beer in grocery stores, I would like to voice my objections to the proposals, 1 think jt is rather unusual to put up a movie house when what We really need is apartment houses and homes to live in.Beer is unnecessary to the happiness of the families when most women would like to see it all poured down the sink and it would tend to cause drink- ing parties and children seeing their parents drink wouldn't help them. There Is enought trouble caused by drink and V.D.Let us get
