and to continue to patronize the local ‘stores in order that an undue burden of this progressive work ‘shall not fall on the local merchants due to loss of business. Please co-operate, in Turner and Ross Southward On Tuesday, May 27th, a softball game was played between the Tigers and the Cubs.It was a very well played game with Cubs winning 19-12.Laurie Bennett, the Cub's pitcher, played an excellent game. His pitching, we think, was the spark plug of the team. The Tigers, who were never winning, tried in vain to catch up but did not have much success. On May 28th, there was a softball game between the Cats and the Panthers. The Panthers got off to a slow start, and in this time the Cats got quite a lead.By the end of the fifth inning the Cats had piled up a score of 15-5.In the sixth inning, the Panthers went.on a six run scoring spree. However, the Cats managed to hold their lead and the game ended with the Cats winning 20- 12.On May 29th, there was a game.scheduled to be played between the Cats and the Lions. After two innings, however, the game was called on account of rain. The Cats were wining at the end.of the second inning 3-2.We hope that we will: be able to the Child weltare Association, a Red Feather Service of Welfare Federation. The well baby çlinic, an institution that dates back to the First Great War, is one of the best Jnown and most successful means of instilling good health habits in the very young.Patients of the well baby clinics which are located throughout Montreal include children from infancy to school .age and their families.Designed and operated for the purpose of keeping healthy children healthy, clinic care starts within 48 hours of an infant's discharge from hospital. Most cases are referred to the health centre by the maternity hospital where the prospective patient's mother was confined. After both.mother and child have returned home, a clinic nurse calls to examine the new baby and set his mother right on any problems that may be worrying her. Many cases involve first babies and bewildered young mothers, so questions often fall on the nurse like rain. The most important part of the first visit is to set a date for the baby's clinic visit. This is usually within six weeks or two months, when the child is old enough to be taken from his home. His visits continue regularly until he reaches school age.Dur- ‘ing this time, all members of the family receive health supervision as a protective measure. This service is comparatively new, having been instituted in the mid ’30’s Saturday Recently the students of the School for Crippled Children played host to the members of the Students’ Council of Westmount Junior High School. The Westmount boys and girls were greatly impressed with the wonderful work that they saw was being done for the Students of the School for Crippled Children. One of the Westmount boys was heard to remark, “They are all so happy and cheerful” therein lies the very reason for the Success of the School. Each child is taught to stand on his own feet, is shown by careful teaching and sympathetic understanding that their handicaps can be overcome, that they can and will take their place, as good members of their community. The profiency x» of the teaching staff is reflected in the smiling and courageous outlook of the students. The School turns no children down but opens its doors to all those that are physically handicapped regardless of race, creed or colour.School buses call each day for the children to take them to school, returning them to their homes at the end of the school day. When you talk to the drivers of these buses you realize how the children win over everyone's heart. They could very easily obtain better jobs elsewhere but they become so attached to the children and their good work that they stay on year after year.At the School the children take the regular school curriculum with added individual attention ard special courses such as speech control, dressmaking, weaving, music, wood-working, and cera- -—— mics. Each child is studied carefully so that every help can be given towards helping them earn their own living. No child has been known to go on relief. They graduate into business world as bankers, office workers, skilled workmen, stenographers, and to every branch of business. The children's day starts early’ so they are given a light snack at mid-morning.At noon hour they are given a full meal consisting of soup, meat, potatoes, vegetables, desserts and milk.Their weight and development is constantly checked.: A Registered Nurse watches the health of the children and regular weekly treatments ave given. If a child is confined to the Children’s Memorial Hospital they do not drop behind in their studies.Qualified teachers continue the lessons’ at their bedside. The good work that this school Top Right: Eventide Home — a refuge for
