Shortly after 7 a.m., Constables H.Brigden and D.Wil- \u2018son noticed two strangers saunter from Sherbrooke street down Prince Albert avenue, giving tha lane behind the Tea Room a close inspection as they went by.The police followed, as the men increased their speed.They reached Westmount station ahead of the constables, and hurriedly entered a Diamond Taxi.As the tax{ started, Constable Brigden shouted to it to stop, and.the driver, Paul Labelle, 1118 Gil- ford Ytreet, turned toward the police, stopping when he teached them.The two men were questioned and their answers were found (Continued on Page 11) Westmount Police Nab Thieves \u201cWho Broke Into Plaza Tea Room Early on the morning of Saturday, January 3, the Plaza Tea Room, 4858 Sherbrooke street west, was discovered by a member of the Westmount Police force to have been broken into.Events moved fast after that, and as & result, two men were taken into custody in connection with the break-in within a few hours.They appeared in Recorder's Court yesterday morning, where they pleaded guilty to charges of breaking and entering, and theft.Each was sentenced to one year in prison by Recorder C.A.Hale.About 5 a.m.on Saturday, Constable J.R.Smith noticed three auspicious looking characters loitering near the intersection of Lansdowne avenue and Sherbrooke street.He was some distance away, and as he approached to special appeal for $25,000 passed the halfway mark at the start of the New Year, and had passed $14,500 at the time we go to press, it was announced by Lyle D.Richardson, chairman of the Hospital's appeal committee.\u201cAlthough the response been fairly slow,\u201d he stated, has \u201cwe are confident that the traditional generosity of Montrealers will enable us to attain our objective which is so necessary to the welfare of the hospital.\u201d He stated that the appeal will be continued until the objective is attained, adding that canvassers will not be used to solicit funds from the verdict of accidental death was returned on Monday by Coroner Richard L.Duckett in connection with the death of Mrs.Martha Higgins, 85, of 29 Winchester Avenue, who died on Sunday in the Western Division of the General Hospital as a result of injuries she received when she fell down an inside staircase at her home on November 24.Wallace Beaton Elected President Young Prog- Cons.Wallace Beaton was elected president of the Young Progressive Conservatives of St.Antoine- Westmount for 1948 at that organization\u2019s annual meeting, held in Victoria Hall on Tuesday evening.Prominent in Progressive Conservative circles in Westmount and in the province, Mr.Beaton is vice-president of the Young Frogressive Conservative Association of the Island of Montreal, and has represented that Is Told About Aid For Crippled Children Douglas Bremner, of 3769 West- mount Blvd., who has been President and Chairman of the Board of the School for Crippled Children for many years, and is also president of the Homoeopathic Hospital, and an untiring worker on behalf of crippled children, addressed members of the Rotary Club of Westmount at their first luncheon of 1948 on the subject of \u201cNew Horizons for the Crippled Child.\u201d For the past 2000 years, since long before the time of the famous Hippocrates, who also was a cripple, crippled children have been regarded as abnornfal, as outcasts of society from which they have been driven by the inferiority complexes that have arisen as a result of their treatment by others, he declared, adding, \u201cI think that perhaps the most wonderful service we do the crippled children we ald is to eliminate that plex.\u201d Dr.McKenzie Forbes, he told the Rotarians, initiated the idea of a school for crippled children in 1906.He was at that time surgeon in the old Children's Memorial Hospital on Guy street, below Sherbrooke street.He recognized his charges\u2019 need for educational facilities that they might develop out of their otherwise inferior and illiterate situation.He tirelessly pursued this ideal, and in 1909 an educational department was formed at the hospital.The present building was erected on
