VOL.XX, Ne.52 KING'S SCHOOL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM * Brooke Clibbon recites the school assembly.Kings School Present Concert On Radio The highlight of the Christmas programme at King's School was the recorded broadcast of a Christmas story entitled “This is The Story of a Birthday” written and directed by Frank Sharpe, Principal of King's School. With the King's School choir of 55 voices directed by Mrs.Shirley McKyes, and five narrators from Grade 6 — Ray Anderson, Gail Jones, Frances Fogle, Pamela Davidson, Lenore Chesmer — the actual story of the Nativity was re-told in a simple transposi- Pair Charged With Auto Theft Await Sentence Two men of no given address are awaiting sentence by Recorder C.A.Hale of the West- mount Recorder's Court, following their plea of guilty to a charge of auto theft. The car was stolen on Monday night from 1345 Greene avenue and discovered in Como, Quebec the same evening. The following day, the two men, Louis Caron, 23, and Raymond Doucet, 24, were picked up by the Westmount Police, after they had hitch hiked their way back to Montreal.Brought before Recorder Hale, the pair admitted the theft and said that they wanted to get to Ontario in a hurry, making no mention of their trip to Como, Que.Recorder Hale remanded the pair for sentence to be given on Wednesday.“Presents” Grade III in the background, while at right, Ray Anderson, of Grade VL is reading a message of welcome to the parents at ‘| of a Birthday”.PAGE THREE with her classmates from Children tion of the words of St.Luke with the choir singing a story sequence of the holy hymns of Christmastime.By special arrangement with radio station CFCF the programme was recorded at the school and then broadcast on Christmas Day immediately following the Christmas message of His Majesty the King. There were three pre-Christmas assemblies at King's School apart from this interesting radio broad-, cast. The two Kindergarten classes, under the direction of Miss Mary Whyte and Mrs.Virginia Kostol, presented the story of Christmas in tableau and play, sang three Christmas songs, and demonstrated before the parents on the agility apparatus. The Kindergarten rhythm band played three pieces, adding to the bx- cellence of the complete programme. The school assembly was held on Tuesday. All classes participated on stage. The programme theme was “A Festival of Christmas Songs” and featured the choir and 6th Year narrators in the radio programme ‘This is The Story The stage setting, flanked by two lighted Christmas trees and with a blue backdrop with scattered silver stars, was designed by Miss Swanson, Miss Eakin, Miss Robertson, Mrs.Bailey and Mr.Johnson.In between the programme numbers presented by each of the classes, the school sang Christmas songs accompanied by Mr, Gifford Mitchell, Supervisor of Music, at the organ especially secured for the occasion. It is estimated that over 250 parents were guests of the school at these assemblies.Weekly Wash Ruined We have recently received several complaints from Westmount residents living in dwellings adjacent to the Canadian.Pacific Railway tracks. On esday, one lady stated that she had just hung her weekly wash on the clothes line, when along came an engine belching black.smoke with plenty of soot and cinders to boot, ruining her perfectly snow white wash. This, she says, happens quite frequently depending on which way the wind is blowing.Bad Odour Furthermore it is almost impossible to leave windows open because of the smoke which, on damp days has a definite obnoxious odour similar to sulphuric acid, the lady said. With windows tightly closed because of the smoke nuisance her children are being deprived of the necessary fresh air, but she asks “What am I to do?” Class Discrimination One thing she appeared ‘to be quite certain about was, that if the people on the upper level had to put up with the smoke, the Westmount City Council would have acted in the matter long ago.Suggest Electrification In view of the fact that the Canadian National Railways are now using either Electric or Deisel engines out of the'Central Station, it would seem to be.quite reason- (Continued on Page 2) Westm’t Quarter Century Club Members Are Feted Membership in the Quarter Century Club of the City of West- mount was swelled by the addition of eleven new members at the sixth annuel banquet held on Friday in Victoria Hall.Chief Byford Recelves Watch Police Chief R.A.Byford was one of the new members welcomed into the club by Mayor J.S.Cameron who presided at the function.Mayor Cameron congratulated the new members on reaching their silver jubilee of service .City Proud The Mayor said that he and sonnel on the City's payroll and with the City.of Employees his council were proud of the per- were satisfied that the City was ¥well served by its staff in all de- * Westm’t Masons -
