former student of St.Leo's Academy, and Grough, a graduate of Westmount High School were given the scholarships on the basis of their academic standing and their needs.\u2019 - It was one of the chief meetings of the year as St.Clair Holland recalled the work and growth of the Westmount Rotary Club over West End Girl Is Attacked in Taxi At Victoria.Ave.A 17-year-old Notre Dame de Grace girl hailed a taxi at the corner of Victoria avenue and Sherbrooke street, Westmount, a little after midnight on Friday, and was \\ immediately seized by a man in the back seat of the cab, The girl told Montreal police that she was taken to D'Aragon street, in Ville.Emard, where she was attacked and robbed of six dollars.The girl was taken to the Western Division of The Montreal General Hospital where she was treated for shock and then taken to her home.\u2019 ©.A similar attack took place three months ago in Ville Emard.Another followed soon after in Ville LaSalle.The girls in the two previous attacks hailed the tabs on Patricia Avenue, and on Queen Mary Road.Detective-sergeants Bob Law- ton and Armand Montpetit of the Montreal Police Department, who are investigating the attack, said the circumstances were similar to those which surrounded the two previous attacks in the west- end in recent months, \u2018 ¥the past 20 years.As president of the Montreal Rotary Club when they sponsored the Westmount group in 1930, Mr.Holland said that the Westmount group has reached a full state of maturity and has played an active and influential role in the community.He paid tribute to the charter members of the organization in Westmount, several of whom were on hand at the meeting, saying that they laid the foundations of the club on a sound basis.in order to achieve the things they have.Among the charter members present were; the first president, John Hand, Percy Jarman, Cecil Medlar, Stanley Cayford, Dr.Ken Carver, George Wheatley and Dr.Frank McNaughton.He æecalled the work of the late George Finlayson, who organized the first fund raising project of the club in March 1931, and said that since that time, they have never required any financial aid from the parent club of Montreal.He also pointed out that since the inception of the club in October 1930, more than $300,000 has been raised, and paid tribute to the members for their part in the building\u201d of the Unity Boys St.George's Anglican Church, Ste.Anne de Bellevue on Wednesday.Mr.Kerr succeeds Rev, Canon F.L.Whitley, who has retired after serving the same church for a quarter of a century.\u2018Rt.Rev.John Dixon, Lord Bishop of Montreal, presided and the new rector was formally installed by Ven.Archdeacon A.P.Gower- Rees, of St.George's Church, Montreal.Rev.Guy Marston, cu- rate of Christ Church Program at Westmount Y.M.C.A.The large registration showed a goodly cross section of the provinces of Canada.After registration Ernie Hall, of the Westmount Y.M.C.A.board of management, welcomed the participants agd outlined the different activities.Following this, the introductory classes were organized in the skill groups, namely: ballroom dancing, swimming, effective speaking, bridge, the Business Association of Westmount, may have some far reaching effects on local buying, it was disclosed today.Rated one of the best meetings held, it was decided that a Westmount Business Booster Week would be put into effect during the second week of November.This project, under the chairmanship of C.A.James, will include mote than 75 stores and business come panies of the area, and is designed to promote purchasing in Weste mount.While a complete outline of the plan was not available, it wags understood that stores and other establishments will offer special discounts, prizes, etc, during the week ending November 18th.It was revealed through a specially prepared questionnaire answered by the majority of the members in the local Business Association, that more than 60 per cent want a late-closing hour of 9 pm.on Fridays.President Paul Viau said that a letter would be submitted to the Westmount | City Council, requesting that this be made official through a bylaw, and claimed that if it is turned down, a further request in the form of a delegation will be forthcoming from the membership.While several topics were discussed throughout the evening, the members were was informed by the Publicity Department of the City and District Savings Bank that the work on the projected new bank building at the corner of Victoria avenue and Sherbrooke street, Westmount, is only temporarily suspended.Asked whether there had been trouble with digging the foundation, the spokesman for the bank said it had been found necessary to do some pile driving.However, he said that
