will be relieved to know that it is about to be demolished — completely. The eyesore, an ancient, decrepit’ looking mansion bordering on Sherbrooke between: Rosemount and Mountain Avenues, is to be replaced by a new super-deluxe apartment house. This rather tired looking mansion, badly in need of a coat of paint, falling apart from lack of repair and rot, was of the Victorian style complete with gingerbread frills, .Citizens who have remarked that it would have been better to leave it intact rather than in aw state of half demolishment will be glad to know that there won't be a brick left standing by the end of the week.If citizens disliked the mouldy view presented to _ Sherbrooke Street it is a certainty that the residents of that mansion liked it no better. The owner, while they were still in it, had started to tear it down. But the tenants put the crimp in the owner's style.Landlord Charles Rothamn, of 789 Lexington Avenue, could not evict them to get on with the construction of his new apartment building. The tenant’s lease ran up to May 1.Demolishment had started but |; the tenants remained refusing to get out. Thus the old mansion arrived at its state of half wreckage and could proceed no further. For a number of months it has stood this way to the disgust of local citizens and to the amusement of passing pedestrians, a blemish on spotless Westmount.Strewn all over the spacious and once gracious lawn were piles of bricks, boards and roofing, and the monkey wrench in the works was that lease. With the dawning of Monday, having found a new dwelling or not, these tenants had to make tracks and off came the roof.* The new No.10 Rosemount Avenue will be a plush affair fit for the city’s elite set.Built along modern lines it will offer 69 dwellings when finished ranging from three and a half to seven room apartments. It will be 100 per cent fireproof and will boast two elevators. In a little over a year West- mount’s eyesore will have been transformed into its newest apartment dwelling.Westmount Lawyer Heads Local Bar Association W.B.Scott, K.C., prominent Westmount lawyer of 611 Sydenham Avenue, retired from the office of treasurer of Poissant, K.C., named to the former and J.P.Charbonneau, K.C., to the latter.Balloting resulted in the election of Francois Mercier as secretary. He defeated Pauline Cagelain, the first woman lawyer to seek office in the association and Gerard Deniger.Recorder Laverty Hands Out Stiff Traffic Fine Pierre Vincelette, of 4447 Des Erables Avenue, will think twice before he attempts to break the Westmount traffic laws again, Deputy Recorder A.E.Laverty gave him a reminder in the form of a $56.60 fine so he won't forget the next time.Appearing in Recorder's Court Wednesday he pleaded guilty on charges of speeding, reckless driving and ignoring stop signs. He wag arrested several days previous at Western and Victoria Avenues.¥ The following five councillors were elected: Jean Paul Cardinal, Henri Masson Loranger, K.C., Gaetan Guerin, K.C.,, James E.Mitchell, K.C., L, J.Barcelo.Mr.Scott's election as batonnier maintains the long-standing rule of the Bar whieh assures the English-speaking minority the election of one’ of their number to the presidency of the association every third year.In accepting the office of baton.nier Mr.Scott thanked the lawyers for the high honor accorded him. From his experience in the Bar- Council, he said, it was still his opinion that the (Gontinued on page 15) Opportunity For Westm't Students To Win Prizes Westmount students should lose no time in
