Recreation Department of the City of Westmount, which enables members to enjoy the facilities of Staynor Park, at specified hours, and for scheduled activities, The Student To Speak At Trinity Church On Sunday, March 2, Alan Bush, student from Bishop's College, Lennoxville, will speak at evensong 7.30 p.m.at Trinity Memorial.Mr.Bush was a lay missionary last summer in Peace River district of Northern Alberta , Serving under the auspices of the fellowship of the West, Montreal.This organization maintains and supports two full-time mission .aries in Canada’s North Western outposts and regularly sends theological students to these fields :n the summer months to assist the clergy and thereby secure experience which will help in their future ministry, or at times enables them to reach a decision to make the missionary field their future sphere of endeavor.Mr.Bush wiil illustrate his address with slides 5 5 ‘7 covering the field in which ne werked.Parents Warned On Slingshots Westmount Police Chief Ra A.Byford has warned all parents to make sure their children are not playing with sling shots.Police have recently found children using these toys to fire heavy pointed metal staples, which can be very dangerous if shot from close range to hit a person.Chief Byford pointed out that parents are liable to court action if their children cause damage or injury with these devices, ' City of Montreal has made it possible for the Club to secure for members.the facilities of the Brewster Baths Swimming pool on Brewster avenue, in St.Henry, for regularly- acheduled activities as required.Mr.Ross pointed out that the volunteer worker was, in his estimation, the very backbone of an organization such as this.He said the club was in need of many more i volunteers with or without special- | ized qualifications.The greatest good in this type of community work is accomplished through small groups activities, Mr.Réss stated, To assist the Executive Director and.the Board of Directors the Club has set up special committees, chaired by members of the Rotary Club of Westmount, to take active interest in programmes, Public Relations, House Library, efc.Miss Jenkins, of the Westmount Public Library, is helping set up the Club’s Library for children.The report showed that the grounds surrounding the club buildings have been sodded and shrubs planted, all of which add greatly to the outside appearance of the building.This was made possible through the donation made for this purpose by an individual member of the Board.The club is grateful to and appreciative of the very special interest shown by Mrs.Thomas Archer for acting as press liaison and personally preparing so many press release copies which the newspapers of Montreal and vicinity have ben so kind In having published whenever asked to do] so, Mr.Ross said.He paid particular tribute to the Westmount Examiner for arranging a special column in their paper, and known as Unity Boys’ Club News.To the Executive Director Mr.Allenby Moss and his fine Staff — Miss Dalme, Miss Griffith, Mr.Alton, and not forgetting the hard working Janitor, Mr.Wambolt, he expressed a very special tribute for doing such a fine job, and for many such nice people, especially where the children were concerned.[Home & School | Plan Meeting For March 5 The Westmount High Schools Home and School Association will hold a meeting Wednesday, March 5, at 8.30 p.m.The meeting is to discuss the situation arising out of the cessa- rion of Extra Curricular Activities a ie Schools.Stamp Executive Receive Support The last meeting of the West- mount Junior Stamp Club was held at 7.00 on Thurs., Feb.21, in the Oak Room of Victoria Hall.The president, David Hackett, presided.The minutes of the previous meeting were read and adopted.The main event of the evening was the confidence vote: the results of which were heavily in favour of the executive both as a whole and individually.The results were: | Executive as a whole, 26-2; President, 27-1; Vice - The Red Cross now gives blood transfusion service to 62 hospitals in comparison with 52 since the beginning of 1951.Last year, 47,- 369 hottles of blood were given by voluntary donors in Quebec, of which 29,325 bottles were given in Montreal.Assistance in sudden disasters were given to 338 families, consisting of 2236 .individuals.The Montreal Veterans’ Welfare Department of the Red Cross ‘ aided 2,688 of the country's defenders.Additional cases, 175 of them, were handled by the Canteen fund.Because of the lack of sickroom equinment in Montreal rasidences, 7,050 articles have been loaned in 1951.These include hospital beds, wheelchairs, crutches, bedding and linen.In 1951 membership totaled 66,- 46 in the branches of the Junior Red Cross.Monzay collected in the junior society last year paid for the proper treatment of 136 crippled children, Westmount group chairman is Jack da Ward.Co-Chairmen are Dudley Dawson, 11 Belfrase Road, and Mrs.J.A.D.Falkner, 587 Roslyn Avenue.The following are the West- mount Asxociate chairmen: Mrs.T.Darling, Mrs.Dent Harrison, Mrs.A.Jensen, Mrs.C.Peters and Mrs.G.Hand.Campaign headquarters are located in Dominion Douglas Church.“Jet Speed” Sening the City of Westmount, Garden Suburb of Canada’ s Metropolis -y PRICE FIVE CENTS Test Pilot’s Address To Rotary Club The problems and interesting aspects of flying at speeds almost as great as that of sound were described to Westmount Rotary Club members on Wednesday by A.J.Lilly, chief test pilot for Canadair.Mr."Lilly, who is oñe of the key men in Canadair's increasing program of jet aircraft production for combat and training purposes, took Rotarians on a “flight” in an F-86 Sabre jet fighter to explain some of the ways in which flying has changed with the advent of the jet engine.The first plane he ever flew travelled at 60 miles per hour in the air, Mr.Lilly said, the Sabre moves at 11 times that speed with far greater security and comfort for Jet engines move the aircraft its pilot.by sucking in air and pushing it out behind at great velocities.% They do not reach their maximum efficiency until the plane is moving at about 400 m.p,h.in the air.Although most of the design work with jets has so far been in the range of military planes, there is increasing interest in application of this power to civil transport liners.The British-built four-engine Comet airliner, which has attracted the interest of American designers, is going into regular service with the British Overseas Airways Corporation.A similar plane can cross the Atlantic from Britain to Canada in “no time”.It could leave London at 9 a.m.travelling with the sun, and land in Montreal by 9 am.ES.T, since our time is five hours behind Britain.Every Sabre is test-flown as it comes off the assembly line, Mr.Lilly stated.When testing, the pilot wears a crash helmet, oxygen equipment, parachutes, a warm flying suit and heavy gloves, and a “G-suit”, a device hooked to an air compressor in the plane.In a turn or pull-out from a steep dive, the pilot tends to become unconscious because blood is pulled away from his head by centrifugal force.The G-suit acts automatically to exert air pressure on abdomen and legs.blocking the flow of blood to the feet and preventing this black-out, which is dangerous at high speeds.If he must bail out, the pilot has equipment whieh fires his seat from the plane like a shell out of a cannon.Then he unfasten and kicks away the seat, waits until he has fallen to anout 15.000 feet, and opens his parachute.Heavy clothing is necessary to prevent frostbite in the sub-zero upper air.The Sabre is superior to the Russian Mig-15 fighter used in Korea, Mr.Lilly stated.Our fighter is more heavily constructed and armored, while its radar-gun aiming equipment is superior.The Mig has a slightiÿ greater speed above 30.000 feet, but its cannons lack the fast rate of fire so important in split-second air battles between jets.North Stars, Canadair Fours, and Sabres have an excellent record all over the world, he concluded.Although the company is looking forward to another era of civilian oroduction, its military aircraft will continue to be ong of this country's best safeguards against any attempt to destroy our way of life.American Club American Women’s Club will present Teresita and Emilio Osla, unique brother and sister artists, on Tuesday at 2.30 p.m.in the hallroom of the Ritz Carlton.Following the recital, tea will- be served to members and guests.The California-born Ostas wil present dances and music from the provinces of Spain, the mountains of Chile, the Argentine pampas, and the ancient Inca and Aztec forms, affording a true picture of cultures to the South.| ther Friendship Club Stage Program Members of the Westmount Friendship Club spent an enjoye able afternoon recently, in honoue of St.Valentine.The varied program included songs by Mr.W.J.Stephenson, well known barie tone;
