likewise. You won’t be oh s On Using Time | By Rev.Canon R.Kenneth Naylor Trinity Memorial Church TE - Frm tbr re tt remis It is quite likely that I laid myself open to the retort: “This just proves it; from now on I give up reading regular columns in the Well, I do not blame them if they do; 1 should much rather they would read one of Wordsworth’s Sonnets on Thursday evening than anything that I shall ever be able to write. But there are so many other ways of using the twenty - four | # hours God has given us.I know en elderly woman in Notre Dame dé Grace, who does not enjoy very * good health, but who uses all her spare tine knitting and sewing and organizing others to knit and sew for the Old People's Home. And I can assure you she gets a great sense of happiness out of it.I do not believe that even winning bridge prizes would compare with it.And, of course, there are those who organize themselves for many activities in the various churches and hospitals, and legions — the Ladies’ Aids and Auxiliaries and Sodalities and Sororities. They have their useful social side, but they have their indispensable contribution to the general charitable work of ihe community. For no matter how well organized our wekare groups may be there is always something extra for which no regular provision is made. That does not begin to exhaust the openings for volunteer work. There are Scout and Guide activities and youth work generally. No one will ever estimate the contribution to civic welfare that has been made in the past half century by Scout and Guidé leaders and by the committees behind them.I see the leaders and their committees at work in my own Church end I ttrank God from the bottom of my heart that there are some people who do not say: I'm sorry, but I haven't got the time.” 1 attend monthly meetings of a certain board, which consists mainly of busirtess men, and I am amazed nct only at the amount of time they give without any remuneration, but at the care with which they examine every item of business. This is just plain good citizenship. It is the means by which a democratic society maintains itself in health and good spirits.PRESBYTERIAN MELVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Melville Avenue Rev.Chas.C.Cochrane, B.A., B.D., Minister.Sunday, October 2610 11.08 nm.Public Warship, 7.30 pm.Publle Warship.Visilors and Friends Westmount is the only city in Canada which can boast of such a plan in connection with its hospital. The Reddy has a fine library with a large number of hooks and DOUBLE TRE EXAMINER, WESTMOUNT, FRIDAY, OCTOBER An Open Letter To The Citizens Of Westmount magazines for both pat egts and staff.Cr .* How have you, men and women, helped the Reddy?Hou can you help? Here are a few suggéstions:- 1-Every citizen can work through established organizations such as the City Council, the Municipal Association, the Westmount Women’s Club, etc.by urging these bodies to take eoncrete steps now to give to the people of West- mount not a better hospital but a bigger one (it is bursting its seams now) where the excellent work now being done can be carried on under better conditions and on a larger scale.2.You might with profit read the last Annual Report of the Red- dy Memorial Hospital. It has one defect—it states the work of the | hospital too modestly.3.You can offer to do voluntary ae 24, 1952 work for the hospital—he]pers are needed in most of the clinics, in the Library, in the ouf-door departments, ete.The Women's Auxiliary is desperately in need of active members, the work is so great and so urgent and the workers are few.The citizens: of Westmount by helping as suggested above and in other ways, are bound to bring theli hospital up to the standard of excellence achieved by the various municipal departments. When that end is obtained I®hope every citizen will feel a deep satisfaction that each one’s contribution, work and sacrifices helped to make Westmount’s ho spital a proud boast.Isabel M.Hurst (A Citizen of Westmount) ‘Philatelique de .: ° - Activities For Winter Planned By Stamp Club .The, Programme Committee of the Westmount Stamp Club ha arranged a number of interesting events for the winter season.Mr.J.P.Rouleau of the Union Montreal wil} speak on the stamps of France on Oct.30.The Club's annual Req Cross Auction will be held on Thursday Nov.13, and member, are asked to again give thy cause their support.Collectors living in the distrig are invited to come to the Club, weekly meetings which are held at Victoria Hall]: Westmount 0 Thursdays at 8 p.m.More than 45,000,000,000 quarty of milk are produced annually iy the United States.“COOL CONTROL" brewing extracts only the top goodness from Dow quality ingredients by eliminating all adverse temperature variations in the brewing process.most satisfyin — + DCR4 + INDOWS PUT UP au WA.7229s: Paul A.Brault & A.Decaqueray, Props.1422 ST.ANTOINE STREET RIDGEWOOD WINDOW CLEANING nev eg "]
