Roland Asselin, fifth and Allan Howard, sixth.Geo Tully (McGill) a former Canadian Olympic fencer and three weapon Canadian champion for three succesive years turned in a fine performance to take third place.The tournaments were marked by many fast exchanges of attacks highest degree of skill ever dis- and counter-attacks.Probably the played championship was to be seen during the sabre competition especially.Canadians are very fortunate to have such Europeans as Eva Kun, Jan Erderly and Stephen Vamos here to improve their technique.Mr.Vamos particularly, is responsible for the great improve- (Continued on Page 2) in a Canadian fencing\u2019 \u2014_\u2014 \u2014 * * Westmount In October .FIRE DEPARTMENT There were 31 calls, 23 for fires and 8 miscellaneous.No serious fire occurred during the month.Among the calls there were 2 false alarms.322 premises were re-inspected for fire prevention.Resulting from these inspections, 8 notices were served.239 fire extinguishers were inspected.Water pressures were satisfactory.14 fire drills were carried out at various schools \u2014 the best drill taking place at Roslyn School when approximately 900 pupils were evacuated through 4 exits in 1 minute and 31 seconds.POLICE DEPARTMENT There was a total of 63 accidents reported resulting in injuries to 16 persons \u2014 a decrease of 5 accidents and 8 persons injured compared with the previous month.There was 1 fatal accident.56 of the accidents were traffic and 7 other than traffic or street.In the traffic accidents 9 persons were injured, and 1 fatal.828 cases were made during the month;
