Board, and to Ed Storr.president of the Protestant Men Teachers Association. The letter follows: “The recent cancellation of extra curricular activities by male teachers in all Protestant schools coming under the jurisdiction of the Greater Montreal School Board is viewed with much concern by the Westmount Municipal Association. It is an important matter to all parents that our school children receive school guidance and supervision in sports and play just as in classroom studies.~ “The Association is not attempting to take either side in the present controversy.We.are, however, asking that negotiations be actively carried on hv toth parties to reach an agrre- ment and thus bring the present stalemate to a speedy 2nil.“We strongly urge the Protestant Men Teachers’ Associu* tion of Greater Montreal to d» everything possible to reach à conclusion.“Remember it is our children who are suffering and who are the ultimate losers.” PAGE TWO ROVING By Frank Fairview ; REPORTER Victoria Pet Supplies, located for the last 27 years at 357 Victoria ave., is finally moving away — but not too + far away.Charles A, James, owner of the pet shop, says that over the years, the business has grown to such an extent that the present location just isn't big enough to provide the kind of service he likes to give. Therefore after May 1, Mr.James’ many customers will find him located at 5041 Sherbrooke street west, in the store now occupied by Alwin Refrigeration and Appliances. As many people know, the specialty of this pet shop is the boarding and caring for of birds, and during the summer months there are sometimes as many as 200 of them boarded her.Mr.We have received a shipment of genuine SHETLAND TWEEDS in all shades and patierns. Also imported WORSTEDS of highest quality Ladies’ and Gent's SUITS & COATS MADE-TO-MEASURE IN ONE WEEK Customers or our own material made up.® REPAIRING © REMODELLING ® REMITTING QUICK SERVICE F.L.SILVER LADIES’ & GENT'S TAILOR 1235 Greene Ave.(Downstairs) WI.6633 James also operates a regular bird clinic which looks not unlike a modern drug-store dispensary.A druggist by profession, Mr.James has 50 years of bird-treat- ing experience behind him and seldom hesitates to say be knows his business; and it is by no -means limited to the local citizenry.People from as far away as Ottawa board their birds here and his advice has been sought after by many out-of-town bird- owners. In his new location, Mr.James hopes to be able to board many more birds than he doés now.Speaking of the larger premises, he said, “We can’t serve customers any better, but we'll have a better place from which to serve them.” March 1, is momination day to fill three aldermanic seats now open.Should the nominations be contested, an election will be held March 13, location of polls to be announced.- It appears as if some theatres these days are attended by teenage groups bent not upon seeing the show for its own merits, but on causing as much disturbance as they possibly can.Time was when a man and his wife could go to a show and not be subjected to uncouth, and very often downright obscene remarks from the back rows.Perhaps those young smart- alecs think it clever to use words that most other people have forgotten; or does it just mean that their minds are not capable of tilting with an aduit picture ?Another complaint a Jot of people have, is the sale of potato- chips. There is nothing wrong with potato-chips, but in a show MA.3332 388 ST.JAMES ST.W."CHRISTMAS" EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR FOR INSURANCE 7 Edwin D.CHRISTMAS INSURANCE BROKER \\ WA.4568 Montreal fm I+ does ! you money.4492 St.Catherine W.GL.3504 151 YEARS IN BUSINESS Does that long record give a client something extra? We have built up a knowledge of residential properties in Montreal that is incomparable ! ! Weekly Newspaper Association at Ottawa this week.* Mr.Marler quoted leaders in the steel industry as having expressed the opinion that there will be an increase of some 60,- 000,000 tons in steel-making capacity within the next 15 years. He added that if the expansion in U.S, steel production takes place according to prediction, there will be a substantial increase in the volume of iron ore shipped from Seven Islands and moved over the Seaway. He thought that “it seems likely that iron ore will be the most important single item of traffic on the Seaway.” Indicative of the increase in direct overseas traffic with lake ports, Mr.Marler quoted figures to show that in the past six years the traffic out of the port of imports into Toronto from 54 overseas ports in 19 different countries and transported exports lines with eight efiipsto twenty student's luncheon.Heading the group was Bill % Manning from Barbados, president of McGill's Cosmopolitan Club.Others from the same country were Stephen Grannum, Frank McConney and Charles Evelyn.Remainder of the party included Ian Nicholls, Scotland; Mark Launay, France, and Joan Hogan, Ireland.First of three speakers Mr.Manning briefly outlined the objectives of the Cosmopolitan Club at the university. The club is primarily a social organization which aims at promoting goodwill among Canadians and students from abroad and uniting nationalistic clubs on the campus. The speaker, now doing post graduate studies in chemical engineering, said a lack of tolerance and difference of tastes were among the chief obstacles the club tries to overcome in its social undertakings.Barbados, with 220.000 people in an area 21 by 14 miles, has the highest population density -per square mile of any country in the worid, the meeting was told by Stephen Grannum, a to 44 ports in 19 different countries.Mr.Henderson, who is vice- chairman of the executive ‘council of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and secretary-treasurer of Distillers-Seagrams, spoke of the high cost of government, parti- eularly for ordinary costs and for welfare, exclusive of defence costs. In discussing the recent Canadian Chamber of Commerce brief ‘to the Federal Government, he stressed that the Chamber was anxious to drive home to the government the fact that its fiscal and monetary policy must be designed to preserve a free, competitive healthy business structure.fourth year Arts student, speaking on his homeland. He termed the economy of the [country as “not strong” and dependent mainly on the sugar industry and tourist trade.Politically it is one of the oldest of England's colonies but is moving toward self-government in the ‘proposed Caribbean Federation. The exploits of such famous Canadians of Scottish origins as Sir John A.MacDonald, Mackenzie King, Alexander Mac- Kenzie and James McGill were cited by the final speaker, Ian Nicholls, an international exchange student, also ‘doing nost graduate work in chemical engineering.Though Scotland has had no parliament since the 18th century union and its representatives must sit in the British house he pointed out that Scotsmen of all ranks and stations retained a strong national character and pride.Commenting on the country's economic expansion, he said it was becoming less dependent on tourist trale and some of “the picturesque glens are now the sites of hydroelectric projects.” While thanking the students on behalf of the club, Percy Delgado expressed the wish that when they return to their native countries “they will interpret to their people the keen desire of Canadians and Rotarians particularly toward furthering international good will , .and peace.” The students were introduced
