a son, John Harrison, of London, Ont.; and a daughter, Ars.Douglas Humm (Jane), Chapel Hill, N.C.* | Westmount Baptist Church Dr.A.C.Archibald the interim pastor, will speak at both services.His topic at 11 AM.is — “Are the coming Bryan Green meetings the evangelistic answer for this city”?At 7:30 he will speak on “The Kingdoom of God and the individual”.On Wednesday evening he begins a new series of mid-weeks topic on “Vital questions for our day”.His subject this week will be — “How broadminded should a christian be”?Children attending the morning service are cared for during the sermon period in the Rickerts room.Visitors in our city are cordially welcomea.See er mem es become more devastating as tne years go by.As war is oul chief problem we might well consider why wars ever began.Our columnist would probably say that all wars have been economic, because he lays his emphasis on food supply.I should incline to agree that the first wars were over the possession of some piece of pasture land when the flocks were growing hungry.But there were other reasons as well.Scripture says that the first murder was due to jealousy.And there have been disastrous wars due to vengeance, National memories can be very long.The fact is that man is a combative animal, And nations are not much more than men magnified many thousands of times but perhaps losing some sense of responsibility when they become magnified.Wars have been fought for religion and for other ideologies and there is no observable change in human nature that will make such wars impossible in the future.The religious wars which desolated Europe in the middle of the Sixteenth Century and the clash between Moslem and Hindu in India 300 years later do not make us tdo hopeful.Sheer ambition is still a cause of war.In 1914 the Kaiser saw a comparatively safe opportunity of becoming in fact as well as name the War Lord of Europe.He had the weapons and his potential enemies were divided and distracted wtih home polities.And will any one say that greater brain power will never be used for personal ambition?The greatest danger of all today is the rise of nationalism, It can do strange things, It has restored two almost forgotten languages — Erse and Hebrew — to become the national speech of new States.It is a growing power in the New China and the New India.What could it become if means were found to confer greater brain power on a few leaders.+ B AAG ins | FUNÇRAL HOME 5610.Sherbrooke SÈW DExtéÿ_l|49 Completely 7 AIR CONDITIONED | funeral Home and Chapel BAPTIST ie Funeral Y Serj: WESTMOUNT BAPTIST CHURCH Sherbrooke Street West at Roslyn Ave.Rev A.C.Archibald, D.D., Interim Pastor, “ARE THE BRYAN GR MEETINGS THE EVANGELISTIC ANSWER"?“THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE KINGDOM - OF GOD”, Children under eight cared for dur- ‘ing the sermon period.Prayer meeting: on.Wednesday at 8, Topic - “How broad-minded and visitors are" Cordade ES vi s are - wele AN SR OC Wray, cu 11:00 a.m.7:30 p.m, AAAS (SN The Chapel of Ca 1 1 PRE te cxuitaeh AE RE AE nip Service) at 8:13] Ms.R.J.Murphy Funeral Today Funeral service’ “wi ‘be held this morning -at.9 a.m.at St.Thomas Acquinas Church for Mrs.Robert J.Murphy, 198 Selby St., wife.of the day composing room superintendent at The Gazette, who died Tuesday in her 61st year at her residence.The former Mary Margaret Ryan, she lived in Montreal al her life.She was born here Jan.18, 1896, and had been married 11 years.Mrs, Murphy is survived by her husband.: ’ Solomon Gisser Canfor Saturday Cantor Solomon Gisser, of the Shaare Zion Congregation, will officiate at Sabbath Services in the Beth Israel Synagogue in Trout Lake on Saturday, July 28, at 9:00 a.m.Nathan Dermer, who is president of the congregation, called upon the Jewish Community of Trout Lake to attend these services as a symbol of their solidarity with the State of Israel in these crucial days.The guest speaker at the religious service- will be Hyman Grover, honorary chairman of the Montreal Israel Bond Committee, who was chairman for -the past three years.In announcing the Sabbath service, Mr.Dermer pointed out that the urgency of the hour is the greatest since 1948, and the present moment calls for a new intensification of all efforts on behalf of the State of Israel.PRESBYTERIAN MELVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH .Melville Avenue Rev.Chas.C.Cochrane, D.A., Minister ;
