anniversary. The occasion will be celebrated with several special events to recall once again the magnificent exploits of the Regiment and those that became affiliated with it down through the five decades.Nothing can be added to the tributes that have heen heaped on the regiment, any more than anything could be added to the striking and sterling list of battle honors attached to its lustrous record. However, the anniversary coincides, by chance, with an official announcement from Ottawa that Canada’s Reserve Army role is again one that fits precisely into the Armed Services plan, and no longer is the Reserve Army role merely that of Civil Protection, as it has been now for some years. To this we word: “Bravo”.And we have the firm feeling that the new Reserve Army role again being opened up will provide still added opportunity for the Royal Montreal Regiment to add to its proud record.say one BY THE WAY LIFE IS LIKE THAT HE important guest at a Æ banquet ‘whose hydrant-fed spillway at the libary is, alas, by ne means complete, the lovely green sward of the dell is gone. There are nothing but mounds of carth and straggling weeds, a miserable representation of what was, and now unhappy is not, A whole summer has been lost to Westmount people who loved the Park and were, for the most part, happy with it and its surroundings. It will take years for the Park to recover a semblance of itself, for anybody familiar with the habits of flowers and grasses knows how long it takes to replace and Permanently restore in new locations, their original beauty. In six weeks or less the snow will fly.Even now, sowing of grass seed is a waste of money. It will be late summer of 1965, at least, before any measure of permanence will he visible. And what will we have then that we had not before the heavy expenditures of 1964 en- curred in the so-called ‘‘remodelling?’ A maze of concrete footpaths to aggravate the feet of those who would seek the green sod and the cool of the shade trees, plus a miserable trickling ditch and a couple of artifical spillways that a summer thundershower, and its resultant flood, would put to shame on any of the avenues bordering the Park on the mountain side. Those interested in preserving the natural beauty of King George Park (Murray Park) should get busy to form a Pro- tvetion Committee to guard the natural beauty of this park, one of the most lovely on the Island of Montreal, and block all squandering of monies on so-called modernizing.JAMES R.MACKEN.Guides, Brownies seek leaders Sir: This month, Westmount is interested in children and wiling to help out in a Guide company or Brownie pack contact me?Training is provided — it is not necesary to have been a Guide or Brownie yourself.Meetings are held always remained the same. Our girls are preparing themselves to lead happy useful lives and to become good citizens, In West- mount, we have over 250 Roman Catholic, Jewish and Protestant children, CHURCH OF THR MESSIAH 1487 Sherbrooke St.W.(at Simpson) Sunday, Sept.20th 11:00 p.m, ‘‘Religious Education In a New Age" Rey.Leonard Mason, B.A.B.CHURCH SCHOOL re-opens Sunday, ser.October 4th in Unitarian House new life Tit.3:5).Now this is a law, an inexorable, unchangeable law.The sinner who sincerely places his trust in Christ as Savior is given life by the Holy Spirit. It is always so; it is never otherwise.1 John 5:12 says: “He that hath the Son hath life .” John 3:36 says that “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life” and Col.3:4 declares that the believer's life is “hid with Christ in God.” Thus the apostle could say: “The Law of the Spirit, (that of) life in Christ, hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” Adam forfeited his life by sin, but the believer's new life can never be forfeited, for this life is nothing less than the life of Christ, in whom the sinner has already died and paid for his sins — and in whom he now stands perfect and complete before God, | It is a law.a fixed un-! changeable law, that sin brings forth death (Rom.5:12; 6:23; et.al), This is called “the law of sin and death,” but the believer has already died for sin in Christ | and has been given a new life by the Spirit. Thus "The law of the Spirit,” that of, “life in Christ,” has made the WHAT CAN YOU SAY TO MONTREAL CHILDREN WHO NEED HELP.WHEN THERE'S NO HELP TO GIVE?‘Sorry! We can't afford you right now.Maybe next year’?Could you say it, if they were lined up and looking at you?Or would you try to help them somehow, because their need is so great.and because they can’t help themselves.Today, Red Feather agencies can give them help, protection, guidance and health care.Next year they may not have help to give— if you do not give Red Feather your airl can count on .and thrive on! full support.Montreal's 36 Red Feather agencies face serious problems! Why?eo Because the last few Red Feather campaigns have fallen short of their objectives.e Because the growth of the city has placed evergrowing demands on all Red Feather services.Budgets have been cul to the bone.Every penny taken in is put to work where it will do the greatest good. But the fact remains— we are almost half a million dollars in the red! That deficit must grow no further. This year’s objective is $2,475,000.the rock-bottom amount required to maintain 36 RED FEATHER AGENCIES DEPEND ON YOUR ONE YEARLY CONTRIBUTION TO THE To 4-year-old Helen, Red Feather means a proper home at last.A home with the warmth and security a little the work of the Red Feather agencies.$2,475,000 is a lot of money. And there's * only one place it can come from. From people like you, people who have their health and a job.Who feel grateful that life hasn't dealt them more trouble than they can stand up under.Who can spare a share of their own good fortune for the old, the lost, the sick and the helpless * Montrealers who can't quite stand alone.‘Every little bit helps .but this year a little bit won't be enough! Do you care enough to help ; enough? To give at least one-fifth more than you gave last year.1964 RED FEATHER CAMPAIGN SEPTEMBER 21 TO OCTOBER 8 ° "]
