people ranged in age from five to seventy years” he commented, “and all were unanimous in expressing their delight at the exhilaration of soaring flight. They were also surprised at.the size and weight of some of the gliders.Several of ur ships have fifty-five foot wingspans, weigh as much as 1250 pounds, and are flown at speeds averaging fifty miles per hour.” The Montreal Soaring Club, largest and best equipped in Canada, numbers about 150 members, including several women pilots. While he is Air Force trained and the holder of a private pilot's license as well, Mr.Kirker insists that no special qualifications are necessary to learn gliding.“Nor is it an expensive sport” he noted, “costing only a fraction of the cost of renting a power aircraft.” Explains this Westmount minister: “This is a tremendous form of relaxation and recreation, refreshing for the mind and body because it involves entirely different skills from my professional
