[" Fi Qu PE ss ST GREENE HOUSES AND THE HIGHWAY: Representatives of some half-dozen Montreal area organizations gathered Monday afternoon at the provincially-owned houses on Greene avenue, hard-by the Trans-Canada Highway as shown above, to express their concern along with remaining residents of the dwellings with the decision of the highways department not to lease the buildings to the non-profit LogeAnioine firm for refurbishing for continued use of the 21 flats.Last week Ald.Douglas Robertson, who has been counsel to LogeAntoine, read to city council a letter from Hon.Kevin Drummond outlining the government's reasons for the negative decision, which included the close proximity of the first house, a matter of a few feet, from the highspeed expressway. The indication now is that the buildings will be demolished to expand the area behind upon which it is proposed that the City of West- mount construct a park.Residents said that heat and hot water service already has been cut to the apartments.Burglary try Over last weekend, between 6 pm Friday and 6:30 pm Monday, an abortive attempt at breaking and entry was made via a rear door of 89 Hollowell avenue.JAM-IST ENT, CANADA, = = a us > Oo O > © pa) tw - Q x x J us © ts - 2 e > ° = a x = - ʰ © - ut I © œ wu = > © o .Ww az => pe Cn E.MEU This is “House sense’’ Satisfied Clients Are Our Best Advertisement A.E.LePAGE & WESTMOUNT REALTIES Inc.Don MacLennan, Manager, Westmount Branch 1367 Greene Avenue, Westmount Tel.: 935-8541 The Westmount Examiner, Thursday, May 2, 1974 Two firms split order from city for transformers LE/ & NIN B.& D.Cleaning Company 4508 St.Catherine St.W.933-1935 Canadian General Electric Co.and Moloney Electric Company of Canada will split the job of providing Westmount with five types of single-phase transformers. The $16,785.60 purchase was approved by City Council at their mid-month meeting last week.General Electric will provide three each of two types of transformers at a total cost of $6,105.60.For both types, G.E.submitted the lowest tender to meet specifications.Tenders were opened April 8.The bids for the first two types from Westinghouse Canada Ltd.and Moloney of Canada did not meet specifications while the bid from Ferranti-Packard Limited was about $300 higher.Moloney got the nod to provide a total of 18 transformers of three types at a total cost of $10,680.For these three types Westinghouse again did not meet specifications and Ferranti- Packard and General Electric were $1038 and $640 higher respectively.None of the bids for two types of three-phase transformers were accepted.Only Ferranti- Packard's bid of $12,435 met the required specifications.Your Safety AUTOMOBILES 1972 CHEVROLET IMPALA 4 door Rardip, Vi pow or air automatic, t steering, power Bekes.conditioning.(48374) 52789.‘$74.02 per month $7898.00 cash & tax 54 799.“À $46.02 per Month | 74970 CHEVELLE “do.power s brakes.es.tow pic $1899.$42.19 per month $799.00 down & tax reduction ON INVENTORY "771 DODGE DART Sedan, 6 cylinder, automatie, radio, power steering, fow mileage.reconditioned.: $799.00 down & tw | - Mardtop.V8: ro te wy 0% 1970.NOV radio, power steering, AT condition.(693A) *1699.$38.36 per month $699.00 down & tax STATION WAGON Ki wood Estate, VB, autom brakes, low mileage.reconditioned.(96521A) $2799.$69.04 per month $999.00 down & tax Cumm HAROLD crne@P er OVER 500 NEW CARS TO CHOOSE FROMINCLUDING GREAT SELECTION OF VEGAS, NOVAS AND OMEGAS AND 1000 MORE ON THE WAY OLDS MOBILE VEGA & USED CAR LOT 7475 DECARIE BLVD.(JEAN TALON EXIT — DECARIE EXPRESSWAY 739-1911 | Sedan, 6 cylinder, automatic, a vos automatic.radio, power steering, low mileage, recom: Soden, 4 cylinder, automatic, radio, power stedring, power eo, At Sondition, low ile: INGS.TRIPLE GUARANTEE 1871 NOVA Adan, 8 cylinder, au- ; The Westmount Examiner, Thursday, May 2, 1974 Spring dance festival proves great success By Marilyn Charness and Mark Surchin This year's dance recital, called ‘A Spring Festival Dance,” proved to be a great success. The show was well choreographed and well performed. The audience which filled most of Victoria Hall seemed to enjoy and appreciate it.One of the highlights of the show was the act put on by the Westmount Twirlerettes of the baton class.Well noted was their perfectly synchronized stepping with the music, and it is hoped by their coach, Bev Adams, that they soon will be displaying their talents in a parade. The senior dance movement class put on an original number whose theme was ‘Pollution.’ Pollution of our water, air, and nature were illustrated, as were the effects of machinery and trash in our society. The Scottish dance group put on a sword dance entitled ‘‘Lads and Lasses.”” Douglas Waterston was featured in this lively number which prompted the audience to clap along in time.Interpretive number Brenda .Parsons and Louise Manhire were the soloists in an interpretive balletic dance to Tommy and the Acid Queen. This modern number was excellently performed.Other soloists throughout the evening were Sean Lafleur, Victoria De Barbieri, Linda Scott, leather Lafleur, Jennifer Jonas, Marla Neftin, Danica Dale, Brad Desaulniers, Tracy Jacobson, Jeremy Jonas, Veronique Faisans and Kim Archambault. The hit of the show was the Japanese coal miners’ dance. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the way the story was told through dance. The story centred around a small town in Japan where the coal miners worked from early morning to late in the day.‘The costumes for this dance were specially colorful. All in all, it was an entertaining program.Softball begins This year's softball schedule begins May 6.Team captains Cal Bryson :.,.General Home Repairs 631-8107 Westmount YMCA SPRING LEARN-TO-SWIM PROGRAM —an intensive instruction program designed especially for children in different age groups —a 1-to-5 instructor-pupil ratio is maintained —program includes Parent Orientation Night —courses beginning May 6th and June 3rd —Ilimited enrollment REGISTER NOW Prepare Your Child for a Safe Summer Call 937-3916 already have been chosen, as have the positions of team members.Westmount's leagues are unique in that all players are given an equal opportunity to participate.Captains must make certain that all substitutes participate in at least three in- Players who will be unable to attend a game or practise should advise John Garland at 932-4293.The girl’s softball program is unable to begin as a few more players still are required to complete the league.Interested girls should contact Bev Adams nings of every game. The games immediately at the above are seven innings in length.number.Continued from page nine MIDGET @ 5 A PB pM Michael Baranyai Spartons 13 10 9 19 32 Michael Vivian Badgers 14 11 7 18 8 Marc Lalonde Mustangs 14 8 7 15 k Mark Atkins Hornets 14 9 4 13 10 uiive Hooten Badgers 14 8 4 12 8 John Chipman Mustangs 14 7 5 12 4 Jeffrey Kastner Spartons 24 8 2 10 2 Scott MacKenzie Spartons 11 6 4 10 8 Michael Ferreira Spartons 13 2 8 10 40 David Darwent Hornets 24 5 bL 9 22 Rocket Rowe Badgers 13 4 5 9 6 Michael Katz Spartons 14 4 4 8 4 Rick Chapman Badgers 14 3 5 8 18 Tom Shapiro Spartons 14 4 3 7 24 Jonathan Stern Badgers 9 3 4 7 8 Bruce Walker Mustangs 14 3 4 7 0 Stephen Lancaster Mustangs 14 3 4 7 26 Paul Cuevas Mustangs 14 5 1 6 25 Peter Grahame Hornets 14 4 2 6 4 Gary Jackson Mustangs 14 3 3 6 8 Jerry Alevisatos Hornets 13 1 5 6 14 Eric Komarnicky Spartons 14 5 0 5 0 Neil Perrier Hornets 13 2 3 5 4 Brian Ludwick Badgers 13 2 3 5 22 Doug Selby Mustangs 13 1 4 5 17 Ted Stosik Hornets 8 0 5 5 6 Greg Beaton Badgers 11 3 1 4 2 Greg Skelton Hornets 9 2 2 4 23 Rod Reynolds Hornets 11 2 2 4 10 Bill Saraullo Mustangs 14 1 3 4 4 Bruce Schreiber Spartons 12 0 4 4 2 Duncan Macauley Hornets 14 3 0 3 6 Mark Stapleton - the City of West- mount made an exception to their rule and loaned palms and flowers from the conservatory, and many parents contributed time as well as agreeing to act as patrons.‘When 1 went behind the scenes after the show to congratulate everyone, and particularly Deanna Jordan and Martha Braide, the co-chairman, I thought to myself: Maybe it isn’t so bad with the teachers out of the picture. It gives the parents an opportunity to find out for themselves how capable their kids really are, and what they can accomplish on their own.” Friday's dance A good-sized crowd turned out to the dance Friday night at St.Matthias’ Church. The hall really began to fill at eight, a half-hour after it began.First the school’s concert band played some excellent slow music, including jitterbug, foxtrot, and the Pink Panther theme.Unfortunately, it would all have been better appreciated later on, after the dancers had warmed up.Grippen Mire, the rock band scheduled to appear, started by doing a few fast numbers with a good beat, and the dancing was great. There were only two problems — the sound volume, and the fact that the band apparently had never learned any slow music.Countless complaints, including one from the neighbors, were made about turning down the amplifiers. The musicians grouchily assented, but the difference was miniscule. The slow songs finally came, but all at once and near the end. However, the supreme insult — and one which WHS students will never forgive — was the cacophony of sound which terminated the dance. The group dragged the last song out to a length of 20 minutes, and badly.Nonetheless, everyone had a good time, and ate lots.Kids in the kitchen were frantically dispensing lemonade, cookies and ice cream. The sole disruptions came with a drunk, evicted near the beginning, and a smashed window.Luckily there were plenty of parent chaperones to cool things down (who despite shattered eardrums, enjoyed themselves). The lack of smoking, as well as everybody's well-dressed (many suits and long skirts) appearance, was a nice change and challenged the blue-jean image of high school.Graduation week Next week could be termed graduation week, if cliches were in demand. The graduation ceremony will be May 9, after rehearsals a few days before. The Grad Dance (No.1 gossip item for seniors) is the next ‘‘night, from 8 pm to 6 am.Voting for awards of honour took place this past Tuesday, and the results, along with other awards and scholarships, will be announced at the ceremony.Fat fire A fire in fat in à deepTryer in an AlexisNihon Plaza restaurant was put out with a carbon dioxide extinguisher by the time West- mount firemen, summoned to the scene, arrived late Sunday morning.Damage was minimal.oY Las MOTHER'S DAY ISSUNDAY May 2th REMEMBER MOTHER WITH A LIVE The Only Love That Money Can Buy!
