[" Aug.21 is council's new date City council has postponed its August statutory meeting one further week from this coming Monday to Monday Aug.21, at 8 pm.Originally it had been delayed to the second Monday in August, rather than the regular first, because several councillors expected to be out of town. The same excuse has been given for the second postponement, meaning the session will not be held until the third Monday of the month. The delay means seven weeks will pass between formal council sessions, the longest gap in recent history.À meeting of general committee of council was held on July 17, but none was held last week nor is one expected this week.“It's been a screwball month,” one city source told The Examiner this week.‘‘There’s not very much for the agenda right now anyway.” According to the city charter, at least one formal public council meeting must be held each month.CA pe EIRE AR Vol.L, No.32 eur house but a Westmount, PQ, H3Z 2Y8, Thursday, very cool, with some risk of frost in low-lying districts.Drizzle for northern counties It is interesting to note that Pacific Ocean typhoons arrive, and die, oft our western coasts at the same time that tropical hurricanes arrive off the New England coasts.Cold.dry northwest winds probable for citizens questioning why the rate is much higher than last year or why they have to pay water tax at all. This is the first year since 1972 that Westmounters have been charged for water at the full rate, following an appeal to the Quebec Municipal Commission which showed that Montreal was overtaxing Westmounters by a substantial amount. The ruling, which covered water tax for 1971 and 1972, meant that Westmount citizens were given credit for that overpayment in full during the next four years; last year there was still a small amount due Westmount, but Montreal was able to tax Westmounters for about $380,612 to make up the difference, about two-thirds Continued on page nine } {/ DE Progressive Conservative candidate acclaimed to run for the vacant seat either in the old Westmount riding or the pending St.Henri-Westmount constituency, did not gain the same amount of publicity as his opponent, Donald Johnston, who was the victor in a hard-fought four-way race for the Liberal nomination earlier in the spring.Mr.Finestone has knocked on some 700 to 800 doors throughout the riding, mainly in Westmount and eastern Notre Dame de Grâce, during the past several weeks, talking to voters and trying to convince them of his own and his party’s virtues and chances of winning the next election. He has met several hundred more at parties held in various parts of the riding.Mr.Johnston, meanwhile, has Continued on page two Might move next year: Cramped for space here, Digest
