School, Park Extension, has this splendid commendation to offer in the direction of the work of the Y.M.C.A.among the school boys and young men generally: “Year by year the school and the Y.M.C.A.are getting closer together; each feels that it can help and be helped by the other.“Two ways in which the “Y” helps the schools is by the Annual Learn to Swim Campaign and the supplying of coaches and umpires for games within the schools.“Every spring all school boys are ‘given an opportunipty of learning to swim in the “Y” pool.Ten free lessons are given to those that cannot sim, while those that can swim are coached to improve their style. Many of these boys might never learn to swim were it not for this co-operation on the part of the Y.M.C.A.“Last autumn the “Y"” trained a group of young men to coach and umpire games in the local schools. When requested by the schools these young men coached in basketball, soccer and baseball. The cost to the school was nothing, just another voluntary act on the part of the “Y”.Every boy in the school has benè- fitted either directly or indirectly by this splendid begun, and that city officials had expressed some surprise at the fact that he was losing no time.Alderman Rochon fulfilling his pre- election promises, has seen to it that the unemployed of the ward will receive first consideration in the work of laying the sidewalks, and other projects which will be begun very shortly, He was very definite in this statement. He will also have all the vacant lots in the ward put in such condition that they may be available for children’s playgrounds. He has received assurances from the eity that funds for this will be forthcoming, and has made arrangements with owners of the various pieces of avail able property that they will permit their land to be used for this purpose without charge. These two undertakings, it may be said, are u splendid beginning, He will, he states, do his utmost to have the White Way lights extend along Bernard and Fairmount avenues and St.Viateur street, and expects, in co-operation with the other aldermen, to have the same system on St, Lawrence Boulevard between Jean Talon and Mount Royal within a comparatively short space of time.He expressed himself as highly pleased with the decision of the electors, and said he would do everything in his power to merit the confidence placed in him.BOY MOVIE STAR NOW A BOY SCOUT Jackie Cooper, the juvenile movie star, has become a Wolf Cub, or junior Boy Scout. He is said to Y.M.C.A.recreation i program, and have always attracted a great deal of interest and aroused much enthusiasm. The success of the past exhibitions was greatly surpassed by the one held recently in the gym of the North Branch Y.M.C.A.This in part, is attributed to the fact that three of the most interesting features of the program were presented by members of the Young Ladies’ Gym Class. One of these acts consisted of a well presented mass Indian Club movement.Formation marching formed the second mass movement, carried ‘out with a precision that would have done cre- ‘dit to a military group in manoeuvres, The Bowery Tap Dance, by eight of the class, was received with a tremendous ovation.Mr.Peacock, physical director of the North Branch “Y” trained the Young Ladies’ Class for the club drill and the formation marching, while Miss Pauline Hooper, who for the past year has been instructress in swimming, trained the group for the Bowery Tap Dance.Miss Hooper is leaving for Denmark at the end of the month to study Physical Education at the Neils Buks School, which has gained international fame.Miss Hooper, proved to be a very capable and popular leader among the young ladies and girls at the North Branch Y.M.C.A.and her various groups look forward to her return to them in a year's time.Girls taking part in the Gym Display included: the Misses exhibition.George Tully, Dominion Sabre Champion and Captain of the North Branch Club, and Chas.Otis, instructor of the Central Y.M.C.A.Fencing Club, presented an exhibition of two weapon fencing, rapier and dagger, Harry Elsie and Harry Yale presented a very well received exhibition with the duelling sword. From the Junior Section of the club, Charlie Gregory and Jack Wilkinson, were selected to give an exhibition to exhibit their skill with the foil. The exhibition by the fene- ing club, has done much to reawaken an interest in this fine recreation in the North End of the city. The wrestling club was represented by Alan Turnbull, 135 lb.champion who locked horns in a fast and furious 8 min, exhibition with Denson Wright of the Central “Y” Club. The humorous element in
