Did I think that February was unusually cold?Yes! The average temperature was minus 9.0 degrees Celsius compared to last year at minus 6.8 degrees and the ten year average of minus 7.1 degrees.This would indicate that this February was unusually cold, so I reviewed my records in anticipation of setting a record.I discovered that there were 17 Februarys in the last 48 years that were colder than this one.The coldest was a bone chilling minus 15.3 degrees set in 1993 followed by minus 13.5 degrees in 1979.However, here is where it gets interesting.The ten year average for the period from 1987 to 1996 was actually minus 9.2 degrees, which is essentially the same as this year.What does all this prove?If one analyzes weather, the end result often depends on which period the comparison is made.Comparing this February to the most recent 10 year average provides a correct conclusion that this year was 1.9 degrees colder than the ten year average.Comparing this February to a similar ten year period between 1987 and 1996 provides another correct conclusion that this February was 0.2 degrees warmer than the ten year average.There is an old saying which states, \u201cfigures don't lie, but liars can figure\u201d.If somebody wants to prove a point about climate, it is usually just a matter of selecting the right set of numbers in which to make a comparison.To make that comparison over a short period of time, like ten years, will often skew the results.After all that, I am still sick of winter! school.On the 13th of December, the Christmas dance was held.This year the theme was Christmas in the Big Apple.Everything was themed around being in New York during the holiday season.The turnout was fantastic, and many of last year\u2019s graduating class showed up, as the Christmas dance is when they are invited to come back.The final week of school before the Christmas holidays was one full of events at lunch time, including an Improv-Off, and an afternoon off to participate in activities on the Friday Students really got involved and enjoyed themselves.After the break, the main thing that Student Union was planning was carnival week which happens in February.There had to be games to plan, theme days to organize, and the most demanding task, Carnival Trip Day, had to be planned.Examples of things that went on during the week are Twin Day, Jersey Day, Pyjama Day, musical chairs at lunch, and a cookie walk.The cookie walk was a fundraiser for Heshima, an organization which started
